It would only strike fear in someone, if they don't know what it means. Personally, I don't customize my vocabulary to accommodate the ignorance of others. It's just a general description. You seem to think of the word "pandemic" as being a political dog whistle on the part of liberals. That is weird. Trump has called the Coronavirus a "pandemic" in several of his tweets. Pandemic is an appropriate, but general description of the disease.So in actuality you agree that referring to this particular virus as THE pandemic is incorrect and it should be referred to with a more specific name because what you just described is 100's of different diseases. Ergo, when you refer to this particular disease you are purposefully using a word that may or may not strike unreasonable fear where it doesn't belong.
