Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

You're debating the desire for honest science with a guy that believes covid has a 3.9% mortality rate. That should put some things in perspective.
If he wants to use the death rate as deaths divided by those infected then the same needs to be done with the Spanish Flu numbers which makes it 10%. That kills his argument though.

Why? He says they don’t have the legal authority to require it and he says he strongly encourages people to wear masks. Sounds like it’s a big legal issue.
Because it’s a stupid move politically. Before this he could blame the local municipalities if this goes bad. Now he has to own it. And, he’s publicly challenging his most likely 2022 opponent, in Bottoms. He barely beat Abraham’s who doesn’t have near the resume or recognition Bottoms has. He could have avoided it all together. Now he’s knee deep in it. His advisors are idiots.

Generally agree with you but idk that passing the buck like that is a going to be an effective political strategy for anybody. We’ll see.

Sure it is. He can play the “why the hell would I make the good folks in Valdosta wear a mask, or come under any restrictions that may be unnecessary, when the hot spots are in Atlanta and the coast.” You elect your local leaders for a reason. It’s also stupid because very good chance he loses. Georgia constitution gives a ton of powers to mayors and city councils.

It looks like a power play to me. Blame and Sue someone over something you agree with. It's the Republican way.
If he’s correct and they don’t have the legal authority, then what they’ve done is illegal. Seems pretty simple. It would be incredibly stupid if him to sue if it’s not the case. We shall see.

I don't even think many liberals in here can make any sense out of this... If you can, I would love to hear it.

Cuomo: Customers must order food with alcohol at restaurants, bars

Cuomo says in an effort to get people to comply with social distancing, bars cannot serve alcohol to customers, unless they also order food. Also, people will no longer be able to walk up to the bar and order a drink; they must order and drink their beverages at a table, while sitting six feet apart.

How is it a power play? It’s either legal or it’s not.
It’s stupid. He just gave Bottoms a gift. And I have zero doubt, barring any major ethics issues, that she will be his opponent in 2022.
Under the GA constitutions home rule they can be more restrictive. Now this has never been challenged when a governor has emergency powers granted.

The problem is that her original order tried to go further than that and restrict businesses and bring back shelter in place. This will get framed as a Republican being anti-mask, but that’s not really what is happening.

Hill provided another great link. I would have said because the Governor thinks he has absolute authority over the municipalities of the state and feels his toes were being stepped on.

Disagree. I think inaction is better than obstructive action like this, but I don’t think the “guy in charge” is going to get a pass on actions he didn’t take. Inaction is going to be seen as being as bad as ineffectiveness, IMO.

The guy in Mississippi is mandating masks in specific counties with outbreaks. Can Kemp not do that?
