We got them here in Haywood county. I have seen them before but didn't know if this was a Male or female, sometimes they look different as with age they color different. Just never seen a black racer uo close and personal. I wish i had of video recorded em' he shot up the wall and around the house fast AF. I believe he is living in ny house. I seen him hanging out the wall a few years ago when I opened back door, ran to get phone, he was gone when I returned. This may be hin from 3 years ago taking care of some birds that nested up in a crevice. I just let em have them, they annoyed me. Next day no more chirping, lol.

This snake is a grey ratsnake (Pantherophis spiloides). Excellent climbers.

I bought a 6' Burmese python when I was 19 in Orlando. Before I moved back, it um escaped. This was 95' now they have this big problem with them. I always wondered if Laquita was part of the problem. Actually when I got back my old roommate told this kid down the road(snakeboy, cause he had like 50 snakes and lizards and raised his own mice to feed them, only 10 years old what I remember) my phone number. He called and asked exactly where I thought he, ahem, escaped to. I told him, but never heard from him again.
Owners have released tons of pythons in Florida for a lot longer than they've been a real problem.

It's generally accepted that the problem happened when hurricane Andrew (I think) destroyed a breeding facility/warehouse near the Everglades. That released dozens of breeding-age pythons in the same area and resulted in the reproduction and spread of the snakes.

All true, but non-venomous snakes will puff their heads to intimidate and appear to be triangular. Also, though our pit vipers have elliptical pupils, lighting can mislead a person. Lighting conditions can dilate pupils (just like a cat) and they'll appear rounded. It's always important to have multiple visible ID points to confirm.
Lol, who's going to stick around to look twice?

Poison glands on the head are the easiest way... Fat diamond shaped head... Head and body the same.... It's a varmit eater and good to go... Cottonmouths and copperheads are very aggressive... And usually well hidden... Though cottonmouths will sometimes hiss loudly as a warning..

Better to steer clear if you can... But I've killed several copperheads around the house over the years. Biggest snake I've seen in the yard was a 4' black snake... It was awesome. Chased it all over the yard trying to get it back in the woods...
What did you yell at it to encourage it?

Btw folks, I accepted a PhD research project at Virginia Tech! This was lowkey an extremely hard decision. Last week, after announcing my decision between Auburn and VT, a position was offered at UT... I interviewed and was a finalist but ultimately decided to pull my consideration. In the end, VT's program will diversify my resume, is considered more prestigious, more pay, etc. but man it was hard to say no to the BESS department.
Congrats!

well the good news is that you will not have a problem with mice. The bad news is if I am visiting and he shows up you will have to patch a few holes in your roof.:)

Where do you see any publications saying that they count people in the hospital who have antibodies as covid hospitalizations? I also have heard that anybody with antibodies is counted as a case and they add it to the daily case totals inflating the numbers. I'd like to see some facts on those points. Hard to find them.

Happy to oblige. You're right, PlanetVolunteer, facts can be hard to come by, and even what I offer here is incomplete to me. I would like to see Dr. Scott Atlas's work in print rather than in podcasts.

Here is the Texas change in how numbers are counted. Arizona's was word-for-word the same, so I wonder if the CDC isn't the originator:

Scott W. Atlas, MD, is the Robert Wesson Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. He investigates the impact of government and the private sector on access, quality, and pricing in health care, global trends in health care innovation, and key economic issues related to the future of technology-based medical advances. He has been speaking many places, doing interviews on TV and radio. The following (ignore that it was with Fox News) is the shortest, most concise on the subject. But you can find podcasts with Dr. Atlas everywhere.

As for Atlas's political bias, he is a libertarian, which in medical terms means a-political. Just publish the facts and let free individuals decide for themselves. Hope this was helpful. It's hard to discuss football without getting into medicine and politics. I fear politics has/will destroy the NFL, which will totally change what college football is.

There are about a million iguanas here in Fort Lauderdale, now the population is down to 999,980 since i got my pellet rifle with a scope last week.

Flies and mosquitoes I kill. I try to leave the rest alone
What do you use. I had a horde of mosquitoes on back porch yesterday. Just sprayed Off around the door so as to keep them from inviting themselves in. And when I started grilling had the flies come check it out. I have put a fly catcher up before , but they stink something horrible.
