Not a true fan in my opinionView attachment 292159
Btw folks, I accepted a PhD research project at Virginia Tech! This was lowkey an extremely hard decision. Last week, after announcing my decision between Auburn and VT, a position was offered at UT... I interviewed and was a finalist but ultimately decided to pull my consideration. In the end, VT's program will diversify my resume, is considered more prestigious, more pay, etc. but man it was hard to say no to the BESS department.

Smart move staying away from your alma mater can't have a shallow "academic pool"View attachment 292159

We got them here in Haywood county. I have seen them before but didn't know if this was a Male or female, sometimes they look different as with age they color different. Just never seen a black racer uo close and personal. I wish i had of video recorded em' he shot up the wall and around the house fast AF. I believe he is living in ny house. I seen him hanging out the wall a few years ago when I opened back door, ran to get phone, he was gone when I returned. This may be hin from 3 years ago taking care of some birds that nested up in a crevice. I just let em have them, they annoyed me. Next day no more chirping, lol.Compare photos of cottonmouths and black racers and study the differences. Also, unless you live west of Nashville, you won't encounter cottonmouths.
I bought a 6' Burmese python when I was 19 in Orlando. Before I moved back, it um escaped. This was 95' now they have this big problem with them. I always wondered if Laquita was part of the problem. Actually when I got back my old roommate told this kid down the road(snakeboy, cause he had like 50 snakes and lizards and raised his own mice to feed them, only 10 years old what I remember) my phone number. He called and asked exactly where I thought he, ahem, escaped to. I told him, but never heard from him again.Like I said, the problem is relying on the headshape is being fooled by a bluffer. Multiple non-venomous species can appear to have triangular heads.
Snakes get defensive when they feel cornered. Tons of observations and research show cottonmouths, copperheads, and timber rattlesnakes (especially) are passive. Cottonmouths can be inquisitive as well as being quick to get defensive (but they do not chase people as some say). Copperheads are very passive unless bothered with (which again is generally true for all species). You'd be surprised how many are walked past or stepped on without striking or moving.
Many people mistake common watersnakes (Nerodia sipedon) for copperheads. Nerodias can be very quick to strike and get pretty ornery.
Congratulations!View attachment 292159
