Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

The Jabari Smith thing is weird to me. You’d think with a prospect that big we’d be hearing rumblings about the Vols being in good position from people like Rob Lewis who are close to the program (like we did with Springer, Keon, Josiah, Kennedy Chandler, etc). But going off what he says and who he’s visited it seems like it may be down to us and Auburn (and maybe some third school?). Just doesn’t feel like it’s gonna be UT.

We’re really going to need his size next year, hope the staff puts on the full court press and ends up getting him. He certainly has opportunity here, he’d likely start and be our featured big man from day 1 barring we get a really good grad transfer.

VQ has mentioned Smith multiple times and how Tennessee is among his favorites...with all the uncertainty around things right now and visits off the table and no coach’s out at AAU events things are just a little quiet.

According to his Report, Tennessee is running in 3rd place for the Banchero sweepstakes. Evans says UK is the leader right now, but that it's more based on a hunch and no real proof. Says Kennedy Chandler would be huge in swaying Banchero for Tennessee.

Package with Chandler and go to UT. Kind of ruined that for Chandler

I don't think he's necessarily ruined anything for Chandler. Evans' FutureCast is public and not behind a paywall so people know Evan's thinks that could be his landing spot. Chandler's decision will still be a huge surprise and make a big splash because most Twitter experts think he is going to UK or Duke.

Yeah, this. Evans has publicly stated on more than one occasion that he believes Chamdler is going to end up at Tennessee.

As others have stated multiple, Chandler is huge for Tennessee...if we are talking about Banchero, Smith Jr., Harrison Ingram and possibly even Bediako...if you miss on Chandler I would say it’s more likely than not you go 0/5 in that group. However, if you land Chandler, and sooner the better, I would be very surprised if they don’t then at least go 2/5 and very likely even better than that.

I really hope Chandler can sway Banchero into coming here.

Those two together would make an incredible duo.

As far as recruiting, people have been asking frequently about Kennedy Chandler. We’ve felt like Tennessee was probably the team to beat in this one for sometime, but there now seems to be a growing buzz nationally that the Vols are the frontrunners. Rivals’ national analyst Corey Evans voiced that opinion himself this week in a piece he wrote on Wednesday.

As I mentioned on the board on Thursday, landing Chandler would be a huge deal in and of itself, but he’s also the kind of point guard that a big man, say like Jabari Smith, would see some obvious benefit in playing with.

Like their football counterparts, the basketball staff is trying to be creative in how they use technology in its recruiting efforts. Tennessee’s staff had a Zoom call with five-star 2022 prospect Jaden Bradley on Thursday night. Bradley is the No. 8 ranked player in ’22 and someone the Vols have done a good job of getting their foot in the door early with.

That's a cool video. Walker looked athletic an dwe already knew Keon and Springer were. I like seeing Keon doing some work on the defensive side as well and not just dunking. A lot of Keon's highlights were from a USA basketball setting so he was doing it against top notch competition.

I think that Keon has had a reputation as a very hard worker and defense as the strongest aspect of his game. It is going to be an absolute kick below the belt if we don't get to have a 2020-21 season with this lineup.

As a long-suffering UT b-ball fan, I totally expect this to happen. We finally get our sh!t together in the program and are poised for perhaps the best class ever, and the season is canceled due to an unprecedented pandemic.

Exactly what kind of deal did Dickey make with the devil in order for us to win the 98 national championship?!

40 years ago Mears had TN on the doorstep of being an elite program. 10-15 years ago Bruce was knocking on that door.

I don’t think Walker was in that video. At least not that I saw. The third player was Malachi Wideman and is easily the most athletic of the bunch.

Yep, and the roller coaster rides the program took after each left was a doozy.

KO seemed like a really good hire. But then Dickey and Kevin couldn't play nice. Wade brought Allan and Buzz was Jordan's roommate... zero results. Devoe kicked the door down in season #1 and started his 4th year 9-0 in the SEC. Then it was a slow burn till the end and the start of a 2 decade long dumpster fire. It's been brutal.

Agree about KO. Him and Barnes are the only two hires since DeVoe left where I felt we had hired a somewhat proven commodity. All the others were typical of UT athletics hiring...roll the dice and hope we hit a homerun.
