2020 Presidential Race

Because the electoral college prevents, for instance, two populous states like Mexifornia and New York (two of the most Far Left states in the nation) from deciding who will become president. It requires to a degree that a candidate appeal to voters outside of the largest cities.
But the same thing does not apply at the state level. Candidates running for governor or senator campaign in the cities and largest counties far more than they campaign in the less populated counties and one stop light towns.
Candidates campaign to people because people vote.

I propose the popular vote decides the presidency. Do you think people's opinions are less valid because of where they live? My vote for POTUS doesnt count because of the state I live in, why is yours more important?
The needs of voters tend to differ state to state. That's why each state gets a voice. Should the people of Idaho have less of a voice than California on the national stage?

I'd say if a state was unhappy with the arrangement, they could leave the Union, but Abe Lincoln decided that wasn't allowed. Of course, it was never argued before SCOTUS.

My argument is that your address shouldn't dilute your vote.
Why should bubbles in certain major cities determine the election? Now if you wanted to talk about the ability to spilt EC votes within the state and redrawing voting lines I would listen, but the ship you've hit the tipping point and you've rolled off the cliff with this one.

You might be surprised at how many of the small towns candidates do visit.

Opinion as it relates to geography matters. Rural areas exist in a bubble. There are perfectly valid reasons for not wanting to elect a representative for an entire nation based on empty swaths of land with few people.

Flip side of the argument. By the way I'm from a rural area.

Why should your address determine the value of your vote?

Does "FF" mean "founding fathers?" Because I'm okay with saying they got it wrong in this case.
Which goes back to the point he was making, there is a process for amending the Constitution. That's what it will take for a change. Good luck on getting two-thirds of the states to agree.

Would that not be the case of anyone who got outvoted? Your vote means as much as the next person in your state, but if you get outvoted you get outvoted. Fifty states each get a voice. Should the voice of any one state mean more than the voice of all the others?
Some state voices do mean more than others and it's based on population.
Is that fair?
Do you think each state should get an equal say in the election?

There’s a difference between Federalism and most state government structures.

A state could certainly implement such a system. Your state used to have a system similar to the Electoral College at the state level.

And the FF’s understood this. But you had to cobble an agreement together to get all the states to sign on. So here we are. Also, by their original design, senators were not to be selected that way. The only federally elected people by popular vote would be the House. But, in their wisdom, they left a way to change their document. Have at it.

Exactly. He doesn’t give one rip about this country or any of the 35% who somehow overlook his disgraceful nature. He is about Trump period and that is not debatable.
As opposed to Republicans who are all about Republicans and Democrats who are all about Democrats. I agree Trump is a giant douche, but let's not pretend any candidate is about America. Biden is about Biden and the Democrats. He's not about the country as a whole. We no longer have candidates who truly put America first. Party comes before all.

It sounds like you have bought in to the corrupt news media narrative. I guess some people are just not strong enough to resist the Incessant fake news they put out twenty-four hours per day.
And I guess some folks aren’t strong enough to see through the lies that Trump puts out 24-7. Works both ways.
