JG will absolutely be a heisman candidate this season.
...Until they didnt on that final drive of regulation. That said, I believe JG played poorly as well. I'll ride with whatever Pruitt and Co. decide. He proved last year that he's not scared to make a change and that he will play the QB that gives us the best chance to win.You must not remember the BYU game very well. Our defense played plenty good enough to win that game
WordJG is gonna get a chance to turn the corner to start the season because he's gonna start the season as the starting QB. I hope to goodness he takes advantage, and that he takes the job and runs with it and never looks back. I hope he throws for 3500+ yards and 30+ Tds. The kid has been extremely tough in his time on the hill. He took a beating in his early years, was heavily criticized last year, and while he could have quit, or transferred, he hung in there. He's got the physical tools to be a great QB in this league.
Having said all that, I dont think he's the QB after the OU game. That will be the game he gets to show whether he's turned the corner. And given what all we've seen from him, I cannot say with confidence hes gonna turn that corner. What JG has lacked from day 1 is between the ears. He constantly makes the wrong read, holds the ball too long, misses wide open receivers etc.
I hope to goodness Im wrong, I hope hes the QB all year and we can redshirt HB and not even have to play another QB except in mop up duty. But something tells me we will be, yet again, pulling our hair out with JG as we watch him play against OU.
your opinion sweetheart! In all seriousness....this is a childish argument and tactic to try and defend your point.
If you want to try that argument, then name a QB on the roster who has a worse record versus non power 5 teams.
And any intelligent football observer will point out that TN beat Indiana despite pitiful qb play. Terrible red zone play and an egregious pick 6 nearly sealed the win for Indiana
yay, ur back to your ridiculousness. welcome home!Right. When you want to talk about his "great" bowl win... that's valid. But if you want to talk about his overall record... then you just can't have that, right?
MASSIVELY overblown. He had a full RS season and a full offseason as a RS Fr to learn Jones system... and still wasn't good.
It isn't like they went to the wishbone or something. The playbook is very similar and especially in the passing game.
Yeah... because a QB's decisions in the run game and passing game have nothing to do with how the OL looks, right? I mean the same OL giving up about a sack a game with Dormady then over 4 sacks per game with JG... was just all on the OL, right?
JG was among the WORST in the SEC for time to get the ball out last year as a RS Jr. He simply doesn't read and process quickly enough.
I've even given JG credit for improved management of the run game. He gets a lot of the credit for how UT ran the ball later in the season last year. That wasn't always there. In fact, Pruitt explicitly cited him doing things with regard to the run game during games that he didn't do in practice... as part of why he was benched.
More excuses. Dobbs was a QB during "rebuilding years". I'm sure there are other very legitimate examples.
So now JJ and Callaway just weren't as good as JG? They made him look worse? Do you know how utterly ridiculous that is?
Ainge threw for over 3,500 yds and 31 TD's in 2007... and his best WR's were Lucas Taylor, Josh Briscoe, and Austin Rogers... and he played behind a poor OL. But Ainge was very good at anticipating and getting the ball out quickly. If JG was... he would be the unquestioned starter and would be one of the best returning QB's in the country. He has always been bad at those things.
No one else has had the opportunities. You're acting stupid.
Good thing Maurer was an early enrollee given the fact that the entire preseason was spent on JG huh? If he hadn’t been he may not have known the little he did and, regardless how you feel, JG was on his way to an “at best” record of 4-8 had the switch never been made.yay, ur back to your ridiculousness. welcome home!
wasnt maurer an early enrollee? so this dude had all 2nd semester, the summer, and fall camp to learn the offense, yet still threw into double coverage.....DURING THE BOWL GAME!
nah, JG didnt win those games, including the bowl game. ur right. unbelievable!
Bc if JG was better then we would have put 40 on them. JG just isn't SEC material. The kid is amazing I wish him well but the SEC is just too much for his abilities.Yet it was a FG game, and the blown coverage should have never happened. How does the defense get a free pass on that play while JG takes the blame?
You mean the same QB that lead us to wins over 5 of the last 6 SEC teams we played? I'm not trying to argue that he is a great QB, but to say he is not SEC material is ridiculous.Bc if JG was better then we would have put 40 on them. JG just isn't SEC material. I would not call Jg’s performances as leading us to SEC wins. The truth is in the games Tn won , we won despite JG’s play. That was also true in the bowl game. Good Qb play would likely added two touchdowns in all of those SEC games you referred to and also TN would have competed with Alabama to the very end If not for JG.You mean the same QB that lead us to wins over 5 of the last 6 SEC teams we played? The irony in this is great. Any credibility that you think you had just got flushed down the toilet.your opinion sweetheart!
and its fact. and you dont look for who has the least amount of losses you look for the most wins in a situation like this sweetheart. get it....sweetheart?
now that's childish. u can disagree with a point without referring to the bs keyboard warrior
Agree completely. I don't understand why folks can grasp this concept without resorting to childish attacks.I would not call Jg’s performances as leading us to SEC wins. Maurer was a true Fr. Being and EE is an advantage but you're even more delusional than I thought if you think it is a bigger advantage than a complete RS year.... especially playing behind a guy like Dobbs.yay, ur back to your ridiculousness. welcome home!

As several others have noted, the team won some of those games IN SPITE of JG's passing. I would condition that some. In the last two games he flat out stank it up throwing the ball but managed the run game very well. That isn't unimportant... it just isn't enough to beat the top tier teams.nah, JG didnt win those games, including the bowl game. ur right. unbelievable!
This is such BS. JG did his part in every win we had. Football is a team sport and the bottom line is that he did enough good at QB to play a major role in those wins. All you neverJG guys are full of is woulda shoulda coulda. It's a ridiculous argument in sports because your scenarios do not exist once the game ends and you have no idea nor could you possibly predict what would have happened with someone other than JG in those same situations. How come when you talk about the Alabama game you only mention JGs screwup as the reason for the final score, why don't you mention the roughing the passer penalty on Taylor that totally shifted the game? You continue to blame everything on JG and it's getting ridiculous to me, I think you neverJG guys suck at being Vol fans.I would not call Jg’s performances as leading us to SEC wins. The truth is in the games Tn won , we won despite JG’s play. That was also true in the bowl game. Good Qb play would likely added two touchdowns in all of those SEC games you referred to and also TN would have competed with Alabama to the very end If not for JG.
How in the world did he finish top half in nearly every statistical category in the SEC playing part time and with a broken hand if he's not SEC material? It's hard to believe some of you even know what statistics are or how they are collected or what they even mean.Bc if JG was better then we would have put 40 on them. JG just isn't SEC material. The kid is amazing I wish him well but the SEC is just too much for his abilities.
