I can def rock with this! did you have a moment of truth finally? lolMaurer wasn't "perfect" before the injury. He didn't play as well after it.
JG played at the end because he proved he could manage the run game better. He was awful throwing the ball in the last two games. That is the opening for Maurer, Shrout, and possibly HB. Pruitt will demand that his starter manage the run game well. That is part of why I think HB's chances of starting as a Fr are low.
OTOH, both Maurer and Shrout have experience and practice exposure. They've had an opportunity to study video to improve their run reads and adjustments. If they do then either can overtake JG. JG appears to have hit his ceiling as a passer. Neither of the other two have.
So... can they close the gap in management of the O and run game? Can they clean up mistakes throwing the ball? Or can JG truly shock many of us by becoming MUCH faster with his reads and by anticipating throws? I don't care which guy starts... so long as we see MUCH better QB play than we have from anyone over the last 3 years.
u keep trying to blame the coaches. STOP! its childish and dumb. its HIS fault....periodPoint out the part that I was “blowing smoke” big guy.
No..... I’m facing the facts of what really happened and taking it ALL into consideration when forming my opinions. I can’t apologize for your short memory. But mine works just fine.
In other words, you can’t find anything untrue. Therefore your statement of “blowing smoke” was bs. If telling the TRUTH appears to be “blame” then maybe the “blame” is warranted and right where it belongs. There was nothing fabricated. Nothing exaggerated. Just a detailed version of true events. If you can’t debate what I wrote then you can’t deny it either. Have a good nightu keep trying to blame the coaches. STOP! its childish and dumb. its HIS fault....period
Nope. Pretty much what I've been saying the whole time if you could have gotten past your knee jerk reaction to criticisms of JG.I can def rock with this! did you have a moment of truth finally? lol
There's the real truth. Has nothing to do with me. I called it as it was. Anyways.....salute to admitting u were wrong even if you're still trying to save face by calling my great observation knee jerk. it was spot on. just give me credit man! it aint hard!Nope. Pretty much what I've been saying the whole time if you could have gotten past your knee jerk reaction to criticisms of JG.
My "agenda" is UT winning. I've taken up a bit more for Maurer because I think Pulaski and k-town criticized him unfairly for a true Fr. I've never thought Maurer had "arrived". I see some potential but he has to develop it in a hurry.
I actually love Shrout's arm. I wish he could get his head right.
What on earth do you think I was wrong about? There's the real truth. Has nothing to do with me. I called it as it was. Anyways.....salute to admitting u were wrong even if you're still trying to save face by calling my great observation knee jerk. it was spot on. just give me credit man! it aint hard!
and u finally see what ive been saying about shrout as well. i have the trained eye!
ok man! let's just move forward....smmfhWhat on earth do you think I was wrong about?
You tried to claim JG has been a good QB. He hasn't. I haven't backed down from any of my criticisms. Good kid. Has a lot of the qualities you want. But he has some flaws that appear to be as innate as they are fatal.
I've never said that Maurer or Shrout were proven commodities. Both have potential. I've been honest about Maurer's mistakes. But the JG cult is fond of using a freshman's mistakes to justify a 4th year QB's ineffectiveness. That's how I end up defending Maurer while fully recognizing he has a long way to go.
Remember that several weeks back I said that Shrout and Maurer have a narrow window IMO. If they are ever to be good enough to start for UT then they should be good enough with hard work to beat JG out this year. If they can't then they likely aren't talented enough to hold off HB and Salter going forward.
Not me. I don't want JG to be the starter next year. Just face it. The kid doesn't have what it takes to take Tenn to the next level. Is not about who he is as a person. You are making it too personal.i saw a kid grow in his 4th offense in 4 years he's been on campus. i saw a kid own his mistakes despite death threats and other things similar. i saw a kid embarrassed on national tv due to his own mistakes, yet not give up nor have a bunch of folk make excuses for him and lead not with his mouth or fans mouth, but by example. yes JG has had horrible instances over 4 years herre at UT. yes he has angered even myself at times to where I said f-him.....dont let him back on the field. but the real truth is.....he represents the grit and hustle i want in any kid that plays the position herre. he's like dobbs with the arm instead of the feet. thru the fire and ashes.....when it cools.....there he is banged up...a winner! u may not like him. hell, at times i haven't either, but he's our QB for one more year and all we can do is take him for who he is and ride behind him...period!
personal or not, he's earned it if he is the starter. tell pruitt, not me....that he shouldn't be the starter. all i know is his bowl record is 1-0.Not me. I don't want JG to be the starter next year. Just face it. The kid doesn't have what it takes to take Tenn to the next level. Is not about who he is as a person. You are making it too personal.
So name a qb on roster with a better record and a bowl win?
Good post.JG is gonna get a chance to turn the corner to start the season because he's gonna start the season as the starting QB. I hope to goodness he takes advantage, and that he takes the job and runs with it and never looks back. I hope he throws for 3500+ yards and 30+ Tds. The kid has been extremely tough in his time on the hill. He took a beating in his early years, was heavily criticized last year, and while he could have quit, or transferred, he hung in there. He's got the physical tools to be a great QB in this league.
Having said all that, I dont think he's the QB after the OU game. That will be the game he gets to show whether he's turned the corner. And given what all we've seen from him, I cannot say with confidence hes gonna turn that corner. What JG has lacked from day 1 is between the ears. He constantly makes the wrong read, holds the ball too long, misses wide open receivers etc.
I hope to goodness Im wrong, I hope hes the QB all year and we can redshirt HB and not even have to play another QB except in mop up duty. But something tells me we will be, yet again, pulling our hair out with JG as we watch him play against OU.
Yep, JG knows his strength is the plays that's take longer to develop, which is why he holds the ball too long on pretty much every play. He wants to wait until he sees the guy wide open before throwing it instead of throwing with anticipation. He gets caught far too often staring receivers down waiting for them to get open all the while he has other guys wide open. The BYU game drove me nuts. Jennings could have had 300 yards recieving in that game, he was wide open on several plays he missed.Good post.
While I debate the JG cult quite a bit... it is possible that no one else will be ready to step in and be "the answer". I think UT has some talented guys but JG's problem isn't physical talent. Shrout and Maurer both had some moments but they also made way too many mistakes. HB may be great... but starting a freshman at QB almost always costs a team games.
I think JG lacks the imagination or whatever it is that allows a player to anticipate what's going to happen in real time. As you mention, he also seems to think slow when it comes to making reads. He is much better on long developing plays than the ones that require a quick read and throw. Opposing DC's see that... and take advantage of it. The lack of a quick read passing game also hurts the run game. On longer developing pass plays, the back 7 can play run and still have time to drop back.
I'm good judging JG by his record compared to other UT full time starters... are you? None of the other current guys have had the opportunities he's had... you cannot compare "nil" to "bad"... and declare bad better.
Oh, I could also point out that UT is one for 3 in getting to a bowl with JG as starter. The "win" was a struggle to beat a relatively untalented Indiana team... I'm not sure how that's supposed to be real impressive.
Right. When you want to talk about his "great" bowl win... that's valid. But if you want to talk about his overall record... then you just can't have that, right?Of course you are because then you feel it gives u reason to complain if at all, but that's not what we are talking about nor does comparing him to guys that:
MASSIVELY overblown. He had a full RS season and a full offseason as a RS Fr to learn Jones system... and still wasn't good.A. had the same OC for more than 1 year
Yeah... because a QB's decisions in the run game and passing game have nothing to do with how the OL looks, right? I mean the same OL giving up about a sack a game with Dormady then over 4 sacks per game with JG... was just all on the OL, right?B. had at least a decent oline
More excuses. Dobbs was a QB during "rebuilding years". I'm sure there are other very legitimate examples.C. were not QBs during rebuilding
So now JJ and Callaway just weren't as good as JG? They made him look worse? Do you know how utterly ridiculous that is?and D. had first day draft talent at WR
No one else has had the opportunities. You're acting stupid. So, back to reality and logic. A win is a win and no other QB, especially the one u were so heavy on, has led us to victory more than JG!
What part of Missouri?Yeah... except I've been here 14 years and have lived in Missouri for 20. I've actually only been to Florida a hand full of times between business and vacation. And then you could look at both the style and content of our posts... not the same. We don't even agree on whether Pruitt has been or will be fair with Maurer.
You... are a fundamentally dishonest person.
In all seriousness....this is a childish argument and tactic to try and defend your point. So name a qb on roster with a better record and a bowl win?
