JG’s Growth at QB

It was his health. The coaches knew through practice his gunslinger mentality but chose him because of his Moxie even coming back to him in Alabama game.
so gunslinger mentality is a health issue? and 1vol8 says im hating.....its funny. unbelievable!

nah, coaches tried to hand him the position and he failed miserably....and it wasn't due to ANY mental health issues. it was due to his inability to read defenses as i said since watching his film. he had a simple player to read and once sec defensive coordinators figured it out....from watching film like real coaches do, it was over! pick, pick, pick....scramble....lights out.....pick, pick

Its not so much that his stats are bad...its the fact that they dont tell the whole story...also the fact that with a better team as a whole. He regressed...lower comp% and a lower td to int ratio....all while being barely playing against Bama,Uga, and FLA...

which were games we was likely going to lose anyways due to lack of depth. yeah, sure we almost caught bama napping, but the other 2....we got walked. this yr, much different roster and faster wrs. plus the oline is more seasoned.......!

So even if we were still gonna lose those games, care to address his regression against weaker teams???

i saw a kid grow in his 4th offense in 4 years he's been on campus. i saw a kid own his mistakes despite death threats and other things similar. i saw a kid embarrassed on national tv due to his own mistakes, yet not give up nor have a bunch of folk make excuses for him and lead not with his mouth or fans mouth, but by example. yes JG has had horrible instances over 4 years herre at UT. yes he has angered even myself at times to where I said f-him.....dont let him back on the field. but the real truth is.....he represents the grit and hustle i want in any kid that plays the position herre. he's like dobbs with the arm instead of the feet. thru the fire and ashes.....when it cools.....there he is banged up...a winner! u may not like him. hell, at times i haven't either, but he's our QB for one more year and all we can do is take him for who he is and ride behind him...period!

Failed miserably? Really? Coaching staffs don’t rush back a qb that’s “failed miserably” like they did vs Alabama. They also don’t start that same qb after three weeks of no action if said qb has “failed miserably”. OCs dont call nearly twice as many passing plays for a freshman as he does for his RS junior qb if said freshman “failed miserably”. The only thing that’s “failing miserably” is your attempt to appear like you know what you’re talking about.

who else is sick of all this Maurer didnt get a fair chance bs 1vol8 and stj18 keep spewing? ijs
Just for the record sjt18 has said many times that Maurer got a fair shot. I agree outside of the opportunity to finish what he started vs UK and the opportunity to compete for the starting job last off season that could’ve changed the entire narrative of how he’s viewed if they had used that time getting HIM up to speed instead of investing it into ONLY JG. If you can’t agree that that’s a rational thought you’re just unreasonable.

Wait until the season starts, and once again, he plays because, no matter how bad we believe/ think/ feel he is, he gives the team the best chance to win.

It's gonna be a kick in the nuts all over again.

Where did I EVER say he didn't get a fair chance?

He got injured. It happens. In fact if you had one shred of honesty in your body you would acknowledge that I've defended what Pruitt did with JG in after his VERY subpar 2018 PERFORMANCE as a VERY reasonable plan... that just didn't work. He looked at his options and saw Shrout who had not come along as quickly as hoped, a true Fr, and a rising RS Jr who had talent but was ineffective. They named JG the starter without a competition to help build confidence. They made him the focus of the off-season. They thought he had turned a corner.... then they were forced to bench him in favor of a high risk true Fr by the 4th game.

Maurer should not have HAD to play. He got a shot that he was NOT READY FOR simply because JG played poorly.

I'll just say I don't think them both having 18 in the name is a coincidence. Probably the same guy.
Yeah... except I've been here 14 years and have lived in Missouri for 20. I've actually only been to Florida a hand full of times between business and vacation. And then you could look at both the style and content of our posts... not the same. We don't even agree on whether Pruitt has been or will be fair with Maurer.

You... are a fundamentally dishonest person.

@k-town_king . We don’t agree on several things But we don’t attack each others posts because we are adults and I’d like to think we both understand where and why we feel the way we do on those subjects we disagree on.

Lol... Sjt has been here forever.
I've been a Vol fan long enough for the number 18 to have nothing to do with Maurer... or Manning. Funny story. I wore 18 on my baseball jersey years ago when I played. My football/basketball number was often some combination of 2, 3, 1, and 8.

Later, I found out that our house number where we lived when my dad was in the Army was 2318 Diane Ave. We moved when I was about 4 but somehow those numbers stuck.

Point out the part that I was “blowing smoke” big guy.
No..... I’m facing the facts of what really happened and taking it ALL into consideration when forming my opinions. I can’t apologize for your short memory. But mine works just fine.

Maurer wasn't "perfect" before the injury. He didn't play as well after it.

JG played at the end because he proved he could manage the run game better. He was awful throwing the ball in the last two games. That is the opening for Maurer, Shrout, and possibly HB. Pruitt will demand that his starter manage the run game well. That is part of why I think HB's chances of starting as a Fr are low.

OTOH, both Maurer and Shrout have experience and practice exposure. They've had an opportunity to study video to improve their run reads and adjustments. If they do then either can overtake JG. JG appears to have hit his ceiling as a passer. Neither of the other two have.

So... can they close the gap in management of the O and run game? Can they clean up mistakes throwing the ball? Or can JG truly shock many of us by becoming MUCH faster with his reads and by anticipating throws? I don't care which guy starts... so long as we see MUCH better QB play than we have from anyone over the last 3 years.

I know folks like bashing JG on here but if it wasnt for him we wouldnt have won most of those games. With the upcoming season upon us, do y'all see him making a jump his senior season. Im praying he finally puts it all together like Dobbs and Crompton did their senior seasons. Also hearing JG gained 30 pounds this offseason. I just hope JG’s work ethic translates into wins.
Without JG we wouldn’t have lost most of the games either.
