George Floyd Protest/Riots

I think we as a society place way too much emphasis on the thought that police are there to protect our rights, when in fact their true nature is to be the army of the elite who are responsible for passing laws that are meant to keep the people in line and in their respective income and social brackets.

As far as where the line of thinking ends, I think that once the cops prove they're capable of being held accountable for their actions, just like everyone else, then this line of thinking will end.
I can agree, to an extent, with what you are saying but maybe not to the degree you think.

I think where the cops are now, at least leadership wise, is pretty close to how you think. But I dont think jumping to nothing is a net improvement for society. I think if we got rid of party loyalty and could judge the individuals in charge based solely on their individual merit, we could clean up a lot of this. Or at least ensure we had a constantly rotating number of the corrupt instead of the same ones for 40+ years.

I think the actual role of the cops should be closer to a "Mayberry" rather than a "Venezuela". And even though we are closer to Venezuella than Mayberry doesnt mean scrap the system.

The destruction we are seeing by our own, citizen, hands is at least on par with what the cops are doing. So we cant trust ourselves. And it isnt any better that John Doe is denying my rights vs Sgt. John Doe. Especially in a system where I dont have any recourse except for personal violence to stop John Doe.

That interaction from the cops works both ways, or should. You cant just remove that link.

You nailed it. Apparently you or someone in you family also has been thrown into the deep web of we'll screw you unless you have enough money to fight back.

Yeah knew about it and then experienced it first hand. Stuff you come to know in LA as a fact of life.

Wait, so he’s a Democrat? 🤷‍♀️

Confederate KKK ideology belongs to the Democratic Party. They founded and supported that shite.

In name only m'lady. The KKK, it's founders ideology on virtually any subject then aren't remotely similar to any leftest ideology today.

Also, a Tennessean founded the Klan in Pulaski, TN under the Confederate flag. I don't know about you, but I only see a group of folks still flying it today.

It's not even out of the news hoss.

If you're going to cry about ill advised photo ops, at least let the ink dry on one of the most patronizing, pandering ridiculous displays of trumps presidency (and that says alot).
They tried but the Dems tried to one up them.... the Minnesota mayor is my favorite pandering moment though.

Looks no more ridiculous than this:

Seems like doubling down. Instead of one individual we have a group. Instead of one symbol, we have two. Kneeling and the scarf, and instead of a church we have emancipation hall.

Dont worry this isnt forgiving Trump his dumb arse-ry. If anything I think now that the Dems have made their move Donald will follow up with his next ridiculous statment/tweet/photoshoot.

On and on we circle.

No question - it's a race to the bottom. All about optics not substance with these bozos, ftr - Pelosi looked like a complete fool with her bible stunt as well. Everybody want's to look like they're on the right side of history on this one.

Well, almost everyone.

Yep it’s ridiculous.....I follow a liberal reporter on twitter.... he says he doesn’t get it..... they have trump right where they want him but the Dems just can’t help themselves from doing something stupid...... did you see the Minnesota mayor on bender knee touching Floyd’s coffin..... crying for 30 minutes

You think you're innocent until proven guilty in 2020? Pssh only if you have money. Go read up on plea bargains...and the Patriot Act while you're at it
I am wildly against the Patriot Act. Have been for a while. I have hated that both Obama and now Trump have extended it. I have posted as much in threads about it.

You/society talk about making things better, but when it comes to the actual standard of what is better all you have to say is a whataboutism?

Says alot about your belief in the cause.

At least the people wanting to defund the police have a coherent plan. It's retarded, but it's coherent.

I don't see the rest of the "Systemic Racism is everywhere".. "I stand with black people" crowd offering up their grand solutions to such a gigantic problem. Probably because they thought professing their white liberal guilt was the solution.

Pandering isn't the dishonesty. Admitting to the existence of an imaginary problem was the dishonesty and we are just one logical step removed from that.

Yeah, it was a special kind of cringe - sucking up to the community is good for your resume but I can't imagine having to sell my soul to do it.

The liberal/Democrat and conserative/Republican distinctions arent recognized by most. Why would that much older distinction be recognized?

I'm pretty sure most people could distinctly differentiate The Pulaski Klan and the BLM movement.

I find this part of your response interesting and not just in relation to the Klan.. “ideology on virtually any subject then aren't remotely similar to any leftest ideology today.”

So in general then, we shouldn’t be looking back in judgement at any ideological or societal norms from then through today’s eyes, knowledge or moralities. To do so would appear to be using a broad brush to paint an entire population from then in a particular light being viewed through one’s own current ideologies and personal biases. We can all opine on the rightness or wrongness of actions taken then in comparison to our society now since hindsight is usually 20/20, but to now stand in judgement of people then seems asinine.

My opinion is that the Klan have never been the brightest of bulbs no matter the decade or political affiliation attached to their stupidity. I’m sure there are those in disagreement to my opinion and that’s perfectly ok.

There's nothing imaginary about it. And if anyone should feel guilty it's you for saying so. Hopefully when things get better you will see.. there are a lot.of solutions to a complex problem, but it's hard to begin talking about those when you're side says the problem is imaginary in the first place. What's the point of even talking solutions with someone like you if you say we're dishonest?

I didn't judge any of them, I simply pointed out that the ideology's from then and now aren't remotely the same. They were the same in name only.

The wisdom of rightness and wrongness comes with the perspective of realizing the treatment of people. Racism today is just as wrong as it was then and I suspect that a great many people felt terrible about it then as well, they were just afraid to buck the system.

There are a lot of wheels in motion right now to reform major cities. It's difficult at the national level to get what's going on because a lot of Democrats are complacent on this issue. Long story short the main reforms involve less cops and less money for police, especially in poor areas, because there's a long track record of police doing more harm than good.
