Can’t happen soon enough actually should have happened at least a month ago
Largest city in the US. Most international travelers. The most dense population - 66,000 people per square mile. Yep It's all Cuomo's fault,. There are more people in NYC than AL and MS combined.
I’ve never seen him direct us the shut down as a country on any of the others, have you? I wouldn’t let that little weasel treat me for the common coldWhat happened that he was good enough to (successfully) direct America through pandemics since the Reagan Admin but all of a sudden he’s not? Some people need to self-reflect a little. Ask yourself, what does a scapegoat look like figuratively?

When I was flying to Japan, before the flight back I would go to the grocery store when they put out the fresh sushi for the day. This was better than any you can buy at a restaurant here in the USA. I miss Japan....
I agree that the tests we’ve seen aren’t expansive enough to rely upon them as gospel, as you say. And no I haven’t seen anything showing higher testing rates for TN as we haven’t had any specialized studies like NYC that I know about. That’s why I said it’s just a gut feeling. The thing is, there is no vaccine and won’t be for a long while, if ever, so we can’t wait on that. Knowing we can’t wait on a vaccine, the efforts have to turn to how we open safely. Some of the states are already doing that and no state is just ripping the band aid off all at once. All states, including GA, are taking it slowOT and easing back to being open. To me, all states should do the same. Some cities or counties may choose to do something different but there’s no way any entire state should be shut down at this point. Yes, there’s a chance it comes back with a vengeance this Fall but we can always shut things back down quickly if needed and we will certainly be more prepared. Plus, that’s 4 months away. Let’s stop being afraid of what might happen and just deal with what is right in front of us.I'm not trying to say the antibody results can't be trusted because they aren't testing everyone. I do think we have to be very careful taking antibody tests as gospel for that reason (was the group selected truly randomly) - and also because some antibody tests just aren't very good.
But, even if we accept them, they don't say to me that the risk of a second wave is gone. In New York, perhaps. It depends on what level is really needed for herd immunity. Originally you were hearing a lot of 60-70% numbers. But now, I've seen estimates as low as 40% (I think that might be based on the idea some people aren't spreaders but do get immunity). If it is as low as 40%, then NYC has seen the worst, because it seems their AB levels are approaching 30% or more. This is really the part I'm most hopeful for - that it will take a much smaller percentage than we realize to get this herd immunity level.
But, for places like Tennessee, it doesn't seem like more than 5% or so of the people have antibodies - at least based on testing I've seen for other areas of similar size/population density. If you have seen numbers that are higher than that for TN, I'd be interested (and also interested in the test used and how the population was chosen).
As long as the susceptible population is significantly higher than that needed for herd immunity, then epidemic conditions are still possible - meaning additional waves. The things that hold it back are mitigation (quarantine) and things like transmission rate (which could be affected by temperature, for example). More of a when than a if once these viruses get rooted in a community and you aren't at that herd immunity level yet (either through vaccines or natural immunity). Thus the dance part of hammer and dance.
Reuters reports That Burundi is expelling the national head of the WHO and three of his subordinates as the country prepares for a presidential election that is being held next week. The WHO had repeatedly raised concerns, claiming holding the vote during the middle of the pandemic wouldn't be prudent.
These claims obviously irritated the government, which is pushing to hold the country's first election since President Pierre Nkurunziza stepped down in 2018. A successor candidate from Nkurunziza's party is strongly favored to win. His government has been accused of human rights abuses and has previously kicked out UN representatives and others investigating human rights abuses, but opposition candidates are openly contesting the vote, and any suppression tactics have been largely hidden from view.
Many critics of the government and the opposition criticized the decision, though notably, nobody is advocating for the election to be cancelled, a sign that the WHO's insistence wasn't popularly received. The campaign has already involved many gatherings where people were crowded together, and many suspect that the true toll of the virus isn't reflected in the official numbers.
Why should a vaccine take a long time? They’ve had the process of getting Coronavirus vaccines for a long time in the veterinary world.I agree that the tests we’ve seen aren’t expansive enough to rely upon them as gospel, as you say. He has had a huge hand in making millions lose their jobs, he wants more to lose theirs. He has been all over the place with his predictions, confirmed weasel and I have many other words for him but they would get deletedDo you actually know he’s a “weasel”, or have you been conditioned to believe it? A lot of people from a lot of administrations who actually know have trusted him. The NIH is a pretty big deal and to have that kind of longevity there is really impressive.

Chicago is 8 million with 3k deaths.
NYC is 18 million and 7 times the deaths at 21k.
Chicago is highly urbanized and full of travelers.
It may not be cuomos fault but he sure as hell hasn't done anything special.
