HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Nearly 70% of Pennsylvania’s Covid-19 deaths, 2611 of 3806, have occurred in nursing homes or long-term care facilities. State Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine announced new guidance for those facilities on Tuesday to include more resources, education, and mass testing.

“By testing every resident and every staff member in every nursing home, we will be able to pinpoint exactly who has Covid-19, who has been exposed but has no symptoms, and cohort positive cases to prevent further spread,” Levine said, adding that the state will also require nursing homes to report all cases and deaths which will be available publicly.

While Levine beefs up rules and oversight at nursing homes and long-term care facilities, ABC27 learned the health secretary’s mother recently vacated a personal care home in the Midstate.


“My mother requested, and my sister and I as her children complied to move her to another location during the Covid-19 outbreak,” Levine said. “My mother is 95 years old. She is very intelligent and more than competent to make her own decisions.”

That’s not a bad thing.... if someone can afford/handle care at home then they should.... you can have the rules in the world and skilled nursing facilities will never be as safe as at home.

She was already there. He moved her out before flooding the nursing homes with the virus patients.

I understand everyone being upset but that’s what skilled nursing facilities are for.... they take care of the sick( including covid) if they are stable enough to leave the hospital and can’t go home....everyone knew when this shutdown started happening that it would be safer to get your loved ones home....The ones that could did just that..

They don't stand for anything! I'm getting 6 emails a day from the Dems (Obama, Pelosi, Biden, and a room full of candidates running all over the country) and the message is only "we have to rid ourselves of the great evil Trump" not a single email in the last 3 weeks has given me a reason to choose them, only why not to choose Trump.

Nursing homes aren't setup to take care of a covid patient. They are setup to infect everyone in it if they're moved there.

I'm glad you quoted his idiotic comment before he was able to delete it. I want reparations for all the work I have missed due to some selfish person getting on my airplane with a cold or the flu and giving it to me. Who do I see about that?

Are you talking about when the cameras are on or off? Because those are two different things for some reason.

On a temporary basis as a response to this? Yes. I think travel bans were something we actually got mostly right.

I agree a few week shutdown was necessary in the beginning to get a handle on things. I don't agree we need to still be doing it. I would be willing to bet those in favor of reopening feel the same way.

Are you in favor or reopening now? If not...then why and what threshold should we be waiting for?
