Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Some think they've had it already, but it's almost impossible to know. It'd be nice to know.

At least your not one of them 4000 navy guys stuck on the boat with 100 infected. I don't think anybody is coming to their rescue. But I'd guess most are pretty young.

This is unsettling. My question is at what point do they have to come ashore? There's not as much of an opportunity to social distance on board.

Where are these numbers coming from? Hamilton County has 250 ICU beds, Knox and surrounding counties another 300. I would think Nashville metro area has more than both of them combined and that’s not even considering Shelby or tri cities.

The source is IHME. They are a well funded research center, Bill and Melinda Gate recently gave them about $270 million to advance the work they are doing.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent population health research center at UW Medicine, part of the University of Washington, that provides rigorous and comparable measurement of the world's most important health problems and evaluates the strategies used to address them. IHME makes this information freely available so that policymakers have the evidence they need to make informed decisions about how to allocate resources to best improve population health.

When they eventually come out with the IgG IgM serology test we’ll know how many Americans really had it. Could be years before that complete picture comes together though.

Finebaum has been back on TV the last 2 days on the SEC Network from 3p to 7p. They are airing his radio show on TV but with no real visual. He is discussing a lot about Covid-19 and it's impact on sports. I know everyone is bored and trying to find ways to pass the time and thought I'd share that here.

The New York Times Embarrasses Itself

'Paper of record' forced to correct same factual error twice in one week

The New York Times touts itself as a tireless purveyor of facts. One installment in its latest ad campaign reads: "Truth. It's hard to find." But the Times‘s recent coverage of the coronavirus pandemic suggests the so-called paper of record is itself struggling to find the truth.

nyt-truth-736x505.jpg

The Times printed a correction on Tuesday to rectify its reporters' mischaracterization of a coronavirus study by the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). It was the second time in four days the Times had published (and subsequently corrected) the same error.

The SCCM study estimated that as many as 1 million coronavirus patients could require ventilators over the course of the entire pandemic. The New York Times, among others, reported that the United States would need 1 million ventilators to adequately care for coronavirus patients. As it turns out, that's a pretty significant difference.

New York Times campaign reporter Trip Gabriel promoted (407 retweets) his colleagues' inaccurate reporting as evidence that President Donald Trump's approach to the crisis "will doom people to die." At the time, the article stated incorrectly that the SCCM study indicated the United States "could need up to a million machines over the course of the outbreak."

Several days later, Gabriel posted an addendum (11 retweets) to "clarify."

Here's the correction printed in the Times that same day.

A Critic’s Notebook article on Friday about the painting “Saint Rosalie Interceding for the Plague-stricken of Palermo” at the Met refers incorrectly to the first location of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was 681 Fifth Avenue, not 128 West 14th Street. The West 14th Street address was the museum’s second location.

An article on Friday about “Top Gun” incorrectly defined the term RIO. It stands for radar intercept officer, not radio intercept officer.

He did not call it a "hoax" as this has permeated Dem discussion. He called the "Dem response" a hoax
And what did Trump mean by this? Was he suggesting that Democrats were overreacting in order to tank the markets and hurt him politically? Because in retrospect, he has adopted many of the recommendations that Democrats were making early on. Including an extension on the period of social distancing guidelines.

Trump has told an assortment of lies during his press conferences and downplayed the threat of the Coronavirus to the American people from the start and he depends on his followers being just as ignorant as he is. On Sunday, while Trump was disputing a statistic by Yamiche Alcindor, he claimed that Seoul, South Korea had a population of 38 million people which is ridiculous. It actually has a population of less than 10 million. If Seoul had 38 million people it would be the largest population of any city in the world... and any idiot should know that it doesn't. For the record, Tokyo has a population of 37.4 million.

For the record Tokyo does not have a population of 37.4 million.

Population Of Tokyo 2019 | Population Of 2019
14.1 million (est.)

Now if you are referring to the "metropolitan area" you would be closer to correct.

Population Of Seoul 2019 | Population Of 2019

Conversely, Seoul has a population of 11.5 million.

Seoul's "metropolitan area" population is 25.6 million.

Trump was off by 13 million if we use the same metric you used for Tokyo: "metropolitan area".

If we use the mixed metric like you did referring to city proper Seoul vs. metropolitan area" Tokyo" and reverse it now to your disadvantage, city proper Tokyo vs, "metropolitan Seoul", you were off by 13 million, so you, in refuting Trump, used numbers that were no better than his and you had the luxury of fact checking.

BowlBrother: 37.4 million - 14.1 million = 13.3 million.

Trump: 38 million - 25.6 million = 12.4 million.

Yes, Trump is a blow hard and talks out of his ass, but apparently you do too.

I think it's clear. Trump is obviously trying to get Biden elected and take your guns. Wake up dude

Per Macrotrends.net the population of Tokyo, Japan is 37,393,000 and the population of Seoul, South Korea is 9,962,000. So basically, f--- off.

But the point was that Trump was lying when he told Yamiche Alcindor that the population of Seoul was 38 million.

Still don't get it do you?

Yes you do. Your numbers are as wrong as he was and you are refuting him.

Your track record lately isn't too good.

Your track record lately isn't too good.

I see you editorialized it and adding things that weren't in the original like:

The huge challenge was finding a vaccine. H1N1 popped up in April of 2009, which was just 3 months into Barack Obama's presidency and he was still better prepared to handle it than Trump has handled COVID-19. Obama never downplayed or minimized the threat to the American public as Trump has done.

This is why I asked for the source since those comments are not indicative of AP writing or even a reputable fact check.

Yes... I added commentary, but the headline is theirs and so are the facts of how the H1N1 was handled, and how it differs significantly from the Coronavirus.

They aren't my numbers, they are Macrotrends.net, and I wasn't the one standing at a press conference, and claiming that Seoul, South Korea had a population of 38 million. So once again, f--- off.

Stop lying BowlBrother, at least get your facts straight.

I provided accurate links to my numbers, go ahead and refute them. Your comparision is a metropolitan number to a city proper number. You know it, you've been shown it and you double down on being wrong. You are no different than Trump, in that regard.

You don't need to fudge, Trump steps in it every time he opens his mouth. You are starting to earn the same reputation.

You're overselling a virus being Trump's fault. I understand, you want it to be his fault. If you can blame him for it, it helps the Dems chances in the election. But a virus is a natural occurrence.

Hillary's emails were in violation of the law. We're not even discussing Benghazi. We're talking sending classified materials through unsecured means. People have gone to jail for that. She also destroyed evidence. Something else people have gone to jail for. But not Hillary. Hillary is somehow above the law.
The virus is not his fault. He owns the response. You cant put the response on anyone else but him. It is amazing that his supporters absolve him.of any and all responsibility. Hillary's emails was nothing more than a red herring. There was nothing in her emails that was classified. If she broke the law, she would be in jail. There are people in government now that continue to use private ate email. Where is the outrage for them? Hell, donald uses an unsecured phone to make calls. Are you outraged over that as well? I've always said that the emails was nothing more than a distraction to go after her. If it was so important, wouldn't the Republican controlled house, senate, and doj go after her? Not a peep.....

There is no metric in which Seoul, South Korea has a population of 38 million people. There is a metric in which Tokyo, Japan has 37.4 million and I cited where it can be found. You are just arguing for the hell of it and it's annoying.

It is apparent that Trump looked up Seoul and confused a number listed in reference to it's elevation with it's population... which is just stupid.

Being wrong and lying are to different things. You didn't lie when you said that Tokyo ha 37+ million folks. You were just wrong.
