Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

"Every premature death is a tragedy, but death is an unavoidable part of life," he said.

Johnson outlined an idea to flip the federal guidelines for businesses on their head.

"Rather than announcing general shutdowns and drawing up lists of 'essential' business that can remain open, let's draw up lists of 'nonessential' businesses that pose a risk for coronavirus spread," he said.

Can't let context get in the way of a good ole inflammatory title.

Reasonable minds can disagree whether he has a good idea, but it's not the" If they die, they die" propoganda you have been *****ing on this thread for a week.

They have admitted to a mistake and not come up with some twisted, tortured logic that what they really said or showed was different than what is right in front of us.

Novel concept.

It was an obvious ploy to make us believe that our medical technology is on par with Italy.

Yes and no.

I think your observations are correct. I thought that was unique to Trumpism until I got deeply interested in this primary process. The Bernie Bro movement is the exact same way. They’re the same conspiracy-minded, zero dissent allowed, hive-mind “everything is existential” culture that you see in Pro-Trump echo chambers.

Now, maybe that’s only 30-40% of the left and it has been repudiated pretty thoroughly by the other 60-70%. However, I think a large motivator behind that repudiation is Trump fatigue and the fundamental perception of those similarities.

Bernie isn’t like Trump in terms of loyalty, or at least hasn’t been in a position to show it, and his movement pre-dates trump so while I think you’re correct that Trump fosters more of it among the right, I don’t think that’s a prerequisite.

It’s difficult to find illustrative examples from this forum because I don’t think we have any regulars who are actual far-leftists, but even so, I see you guys occasionally get suckered into defending or deflecting from democrat nonsense from time to time. In other forums I see people cheering on some of that same nonsense as if it’s not nonsense at all. So I think if we had a more representative cross section of democrats here and if the party had more power (and thus the opportunity to engage in more nonsense) I suspect there would be more tribal pressure on that 60-70% to act the same way.

I started to see it with the Biden accusation this week, too. While I think it’s clear that woman has some unique credibility issues (like a prior statement where she explicitly denied being sexualized) the Biden subreddit had mostly dismissed that as Russian agit-prop. To me, that seemed far-fetched from what is usually a pretty rational group of people.

Sorry, long post, but to me, the takeaway is that it’s actually a cultural thing that pervades both sides and some of the marginal difference is more situational than fundamental.
Just my observation but the Bernie Boys are far worse than the red hats. I hang out with more left leaning people than I do right, fundamentally because both my age and profession lean that way. So i may be biased due to exposure, similar to your break down on this forum.

But the Bernie Boys are more policy driven than any red hatter. Which makes them more admirable in a manner. But also far more dangerous. True believers with evidence of Bernies stances vs Trump being a phenomenon from left field.

Red hats will just disagree with you for the most part. Even the guys here who get personal dont take it to BB levels.

I see it as red hats= NFL fans. They take things seriously and support their guy. While the BB=SEC fans, it's a religion. Like it's a complete culture difference that's impossible to understand or recognize from the outside.

Nope, they just played dumb and knew there would be people out there who would actually believe a national news organization didn't know they got hospital footage from the wrong country.

What about people like @joevol33 who love UGA but pretend to love UT and post on a Vol site...what kind of political person are they?

Actually, I agree with you on the Bernie Sanders phenomenon. Its is also largely cultish.

Its odd in that both share these feelings of being extremely insular, and to view themselves as under attack all the time.
That's a really common view that members of fringe or "outsider" groups hold.

Bernie Bros see Bernie as a crusader against big corporations and the big money that controls the political process, so of course they seem themselves as attack all the time. A really easy way to build in-group loyalty is to view yourself as under attack, accurately or not, by something external. And you also have to really demonize the external force opposing you. They can't be cast as good people that you simply have disagreements with - they are bad people, acting in bad faith and have bad intentions.

Also, you might be interested in this - Horseshoe theory - Wikipedia

Now, I think the theory overplays itself...I wouldn't say that the far left and far right "closely resemble" each other, especially not overall. However, they both have a tendency to move in certain directions in response to a perceived threat - essentially they are both reactionaries, and they act actually in somewhat similar ways. They might be closer to each other than they are to the middle, which sounds really counterintuitive.

My question is .. who in their right mind would want to be POTUS after this thing is over ? There’s not a scenario I can think of or enough money to make me want to be responsible for what’s coming .
As a band aid ripper-off'er I would relish it. I am stealing Hilarys reset button and taking us back to square one.

For anyone establishment I agree with you.

U.S. spies find coronavirus spread is hard to chart in China, Russia and North Korea

As US spy agencies seek to assemble a precise picture of the world's coronavirus outbreaks, they are finding serious gaps in their ability to assess the situation in China, Russia and North Korea, according to five US government sources familiar with the intelligence reporting.

The agencies also have limited insight into the full impact of the pandemic in Iran, although information on infections and deaths among the ruling class and public is becoming more available on official and social media, two sources said.

The four countries are known by US spy agencies as 'hard targets' because of the heavy state controls on information and the difficulty, even in normal times, of collecting intelligence from within their closed leadership circles.

I believe they find it hard to chart here as well.

Pain is his pleasure.

I was always told that pain is what let’s us know we are alive . That always came right after the “ I don’t see a bone sticking out , I’m not taking you to the ER again and just rub some dirt on it “ . My mom was a different kind of nurse when I was growing up . Lol

British and American submariners are likely to have NO idea about the coronavirus pandemic because they are deliberately shielded from anything that could distract them

British and American submariners stealthily cruising the ocean depths are likely to have no idea about the coronavirus pandemic, former and current officers have revealed.

The teams, which are at sea for 60 to 70 days at a time on top secret missions of nuclear deterrence, are deliberately shielded from world news to improve mission focus and because it could undermine morale.

They are believed to be one of the last pockets of humanity unaware of the global shutdown and almost 40,000 deaths caused by the virus so far.

France has the sixth highest number of confirmed cases globally, at 45,170, and has instigated a nationwide lockdown as authorities grapple to contain the outbreak.

Officers said that any crews that left port before the virus spread will most likely be spared the news until the final two days of their mission, when they are heading back to port.

'They won´t know,' said retired Admiral Dominique Salles, who commanded the French ballistic submarine squadron from 2003-2006 and the nuclear-armed submarine L'Inflexible. When he was on a 60-day mission he wasn't told his father had died until he got back to shore.

'The boys need to be completely available for their mission. Those who are at sea don´t need this information.

Makes me think of the numerous times I've seen someone get stung by a jellyfish, and there is always someone who says "pee on it!".... I'm just wondering what warped notions of expedient remedies kids are forming, after hearing this repetitively.

Perhaps you could explain what makes it a stupid question.
He said he believed that some of the numbers were inflated. She asked how this would affect how he decided to allocate the supplies.
He claimed that the question was threatening.
Please explain how the question wasn’t legitimate.
Never had the flu shot and never had the flu. I’m lucky I guess.

I have a question.

This article is about British and American submariners.

Why are they showing a French submarine?

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been stung by a wasp and had some adult take their nasty chew out and put it on the sting . Smh .
