Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

I watched him the last two weeks. He is a Guru for sure. I would be happy to have him other than his big weird looking head. However, I think he needs the right QB to run his O. Do we have that QB here or coming here?
If Kliff Kingsburry can run that offense then we could find someone that would be serviceable. Coleman, Petty and Boyd all run/ran similar offenses in High School. I'd put all kinds of money down that at least one of them is better than KK.

I don't think there is any question that Leach could find great success here. I just hope Hamilton and some other UT people feel the same way.

very good point. :good!:

The people that want Leach better be patient becuase it'll take about 5-6 years before we're competitive with him. We don't have the players to run his system.

Neither did Oklahoma when he went there. He managed to do all right.

An SEC defense is a different monster than a Big 12 D. We don't have a QB to run his system, our WRs aren't smart enough to run it, and the Line can't block long enough for someone to get open. Our fans would become restless after a couple of years.

Oklahoma was almost as bad as we are offensively. Something like #108 in the country. The very next year (Leach's first), #2 in the country. The Big 12 hasn't always been an all offense & no defense league either.

Mix his offense with an SEC caliber defense and we're rollin. Not to mention "The Mike Leach Show" would be as entertaining as game day.

That's true, but I still worry about the offensive line. Clearly Leach would bring in a new OL coach, but I still worry about these guys next year.

The OL is going to be a huge pain in the ass no matter who we hire. Having Leach's offense would magnify the problem but it would still be there regardless. Leach knows the importance of the OL in his system and I am pretty sure it would become one of his (if not the top) priorities.

Ever been to Lubbock?...That's reason enough right there...It's in the middle of the desert...They might have one Denny's in the entire town...Seriously

Easy fella...I live here....It is not the end of the earth...but you damn sure can see it from here.

by the way we have 2 denny's, and despite what they said in the movie Tin Cup, we don't have a waffle house here!!!...lol

Waffle Iron? I cannot live in a place with no Waffle House--it is the hash browns, I swear they put crack in them.

No waffle house???...WTF??...Is that legal? hahaha!!..I thought it was required to have waffle house on every exit in the USA...I would hope you guys at least have an IHOP tho...No worries my friend, I have lived in places like that myself..They do grow on you after awhile

I think we have 3 IHOPs.....it does grow on you, i have been here for 12 years. Really the only thing I hate about Lubbock is the wind! Chicago does not deserve the nick name "The Windy City".

Yes it is true. I remember when I first moved here, We had just had a big storm move thru, and the local news showed like 5 big rig trucks that were laying on their sides! The wind blew them over while they were driving down the road! I remember thinking, What tha!!!!....I had never heard anything like that before!

I just learned something reading the bio on Wiki about Leach.

I've been following the early days of Gruden, Kiffen and now Leach. All were influenced by the same offense that BYU used in the 90's. Leach graduated from BYU in 1983 and though never played football followed BYU success. Norm Chow was the OC and Mike Holmgren was the QB coach. Lane Kiffin learned from Chow and Gruden under Holmgren at Green Bay.

All three, Leach, Kiffin and Gruden have coached outstanding QB's...

Leach - Tim Couch and Josh Heupel (Oklahoma)
Kiffin - Matt Leinhart and John David Booty (both 3,000 yd passers)
Gruden - Randle Cunningham and Brett Farve (1992 GB)

Mike Leach was the OC under Hal Humme at Kentucky. Humme's offense style was influenced by LyVell Edwards the BYU HC who had Chow as the OC and yes Holmgren as the QB coach.

Of course Lane Kiffen learning under Chow and his dad works under Gruden

Small world after all....
