Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Society seems to be currently deciding otherwise.
For the moment, health and safety trumps economics as far as the general welfare is concerned.
Gov't--in places--seems to be deciding otherwise. "Society" deciding would be to leave it up to the individuals, since individuals make up society. If "society" had made the decision, there would be no need for any governments to mandate anything. Your penchant to equate "government" == "society" is dangerous.

I do think that this is worse than the flu but not as bad as some are making it out to be..... could you imagine if the news announced each new case of the flu and each death from the flu..... we would be shut down and out of toilet paper every single year.
As with everything, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

What do you know......we have completely different perspectives.
You do you.....normalize so all are equally bad or good.
I'll do me.......differentiate between degrees of bad and good.
That's a pretty self-aggrandizing statement, Mr. Relative Morality.

Of course you have different perspectives. Then on the "you do you" line, you tried to logically enforce your definition of "bad" or "good".

Kick rocks and pound sand until you can formulate a logically coherent argument.

Sure society has decided. The government is only responding to science, health care professionals, and the public's expressed desires.
I'm not sure you understand the necessary components of what allows a society to be free, or the concept that an individual's "freedom" operates within the constraints of society's "freedom".

Let’s say he gets everyone on board and everything back open.

What does the recovery even look like with most global markets shut down? I’m guessing it’s underwhelming enough to spark another wave of panic.
If and when it occurs, depending upon how many people decide to participate and how close to normal it becomes, just the mere fact of opening up may just have a positive effect upon people's stress levels. I don't think many are aware just how stressed people are about this unanticipated shock to their life plans. Our sense of normalcy and security needs to be restored.

However, and this is a big one, if the "opening up" of our economy/society results in a big jump in the infection level, it could do more harm then good.

It's a tough decision about when, but it will come sooner or later, with the resulting consequences.

I love how the Trump slurpers just go on and on about the travel ban to China back in early February....

...but don't want to talk about the inaction and lethargy, the minimizing, once the virus actually appeared here.
Would it be safe to say that mistakes were made on both side? Are you equally critical of Schumer and Pelosi calling Trump anti-immigration and xenophobic when he stopped incoming flights from China? I mean the evidence is there.....

Actually it was demarcates that we’re going on and on about how the China travel ban was just political / racist / just another way for Trump to work against minorities. Trump supporters didn’t think it was that big of a deal and pretty smart on his part . The tweet from Chuckie bears that point out . 🤷‍♂️

I think that’s all fair.

It just doesn’t seem like it’s being treated as a tough decision when we are a week in and are already talking about changing directions, but have no logical rationale for it and only one country in the world has a real handle on it and they managed to do that by doing pretty much the opposite of what we’re discussing.

I just don’t see the rebound being what people here seem to think it will be. It’s going to take years to get back to where we were in January.

Yes, they were mistaken and Trump was right about that.

But that's like saying you hit a show ticket for $3.80 in the first race and by the 8th race you were down $20,000.

Morale and momentum, they are fickle things, but when they turn, they they turn.

Only questioning the logic or lack thereof. Are you people going to shoot the virus to death? Maybe worried about a zombie apocalypse.
You people? Why worry about.... people can buy anything they want...... maybe they want to target practice while stuck at home...

I love how you are calling out progressives for being morons and you dont even realize it. Remember this the next time you want to sh!t on rural places how stupid you blue cities were in helping create a viral pandemic.
