Realistically, do you believe there will be a 2020 season?

Will there be a 2020 college football season?

no way this ends before April. Maybe, and at this point I think it’s a big maybe end of May it might be under control. We’re easily looking at June at best maybe even July if this doesent get under control quickly. People need to take this seriously stay smart, stay healthy, stay safe.

If things remain as is until July the Great Depression will look like a minor blip in history.

I don’t see how it ends sooner. Obviously I hope it does but with the folks who “don’t believe it” and continue life as usual your potentially looking at 100s maybe 1000s of cases that have yet to show any symptoms. Parksdale Mills in my hometown just committed to 10 million protective masks a week to try and meet the demands.

when’s the last time industry switched to help meet demands? WWII? It’s real folks very real.

That wont happen in my opinion. This country is deeply divided and will probably stay that way for many years to come.

I agree that it probably won’t . The thirst to be right or paint people in a bad light is ridiculous, but not surprising. Just look at social media. The question “why should I trade 1 tyrant 300 miles away for 300 tyrants 1 mile away?” seems applicable at times.

The death rate will prove to be much lower when compared to the number of people infected. You can already tell it is headed into that direction, certainly at this point it is. I think things are going to get a lot better after this week and especially the next. I expect our peak is going to hit this week into maybe early next week. They are finding things out quickly. We should all be concerned but I am very optimistic that things are going to start turning around slowly. I think by May things will look much better overall and things will have or will be starting to come back. Thank goodness our Commander and Chief and the CDC are committed to getting through this as fast and as safe as possible. GBO!!!!!!!

I say yes. If we don't, we as a society of people will be in deep trouble. This health issue could be the undoing of this wonderful, if somewhat naive, way of life we have been enjoying and struggling with for the last 200+ years.

In my mind, they would have to return by May to even consider having a 2020 college football season. Even that is putting a lot of teams behind. Consider Miss State and Ole Miss for example. 2 new coaching staffs. No way they’re ready to go by August if all they have is June and July to prepare. Does anyone know the actual number of teams with new staffs leading into 2020?

I personally don’t believe we’ll have a college football season in 2020. Hard to imagine, but I just don’t see it.

Thoughts?

Everyone one is and will be in the same boat.... The luck of the draw will make it harder for some than others. What we will see is the true ability of coaching staffs and of sports administrators to be successful under very trying conditions. They will not all produce winners, wouldn't have anyway, but just overcoming the situation with the ability to field a team and compete with enthusiasm will be something for every fan of every program/school to be proud off. (I make this statement not only for football, but ALL college/pro programs of any sport)

I think it could be a situation like College Football was in from 1942-1945 where little known teams became powerhouses and powerhouses teams became weak.

Less than 500 total deaths in the USA this morning. This is a month after hearing and reading of our doom. Drudgereport cranks out numbers in their headlines of "millions" yet all of China only had 80,000 total cases? Spare me the hysteria and lack of rationality exhibited by a politically driven media.
Thanks for having a clear head. I wish I could like this about a million times.

This virus is going to spread. It is. The current effort is designed to slow it but ultimately the 3 key things are therapy, a vaccine, and most importantly herd immunity. The last does not develop unless people are exposed. Exposure is necessary to get past this.

In what professional journal will you be presenting your epidemiological study that supports your assertions and invalidates the study I mentioned? I look forward to reading that.
It doesn't take anything like that to recognize ant colony thinking or to compare this pandemic to past ones or the responses.

But since we're comparing "expertise" what are you credentials to intelligently review the study you mentioned or test the validity of the conclusions?

AGAIN... AGAIN... AGAIN... I am NOT proposing we do nothing. I am simply pointing out that THIS response is NOT proportionate to responses to previous pandemics.

Could be. Have you ever looked at/studied the schools (as to how they fit in or did not, as schools hit hard by war participation, i.e., West Point as apposed to a school that provide "battle field warriors") coaching staffs as they related to war participation. Would make a good study..

My observations of ants under duress is one of immediate and fast reaction to the threat. Not one of pissing and moaning and pleading for the government to deliver them from evil..... Leadership in a crisis is where it is displayed and supported with group/community support. Much like we have seen most recently in the aftermath of the mid-Tenn tornado outbreak. The way folks from all around just appeared with saws equipment and went to work and then when leadership got going followed what was ask of them. This is the "ant colony thinking" I have just seen by "human colony thinking".

A lot of the WW2 powerhouses like Notre Dame and Georgia Tech were powerful then because of the V-12 Navy Officer Training Program. In that program they got some of the best NFL and College Football players who had to play football as the physical education part of the program.

No way they play football this year. This country is fixing to come to its knees out of fear/precaution and we wont return to normal for some time. Football will be the last thing on peoples minds in a month or so. JMO but just look how much things have changed in the past 2 weeks

Yes I believe there will be a season. The Economy will have to be unleashed by May because if you don't the economic virus will be worse than the Covid 19 virus. I understand it's all about not overwhelming Heath Care system.

Not the point I was making.

Maybe I should have called it herd mentality or even lemmings.... In either case, pointing out that the statistics currently do not line up with the panic or reaction... gets you labeled a "heretic" in this current age when apocalyptic preachers of doom are called "the experts".

Hopefully, we wake up before then and decide that fear will not control us.

HOw can anyone not be taking this seriously at this point? This isnt about a false sense of fear, it's realistic people with a lot more knowledge regarding infectious diseases that are making the rules and guidelines to follow. Maybe they know more than your average person?

It's shocking how much this forum differs from the political board. Of course, that's a good thing.

If this keeps going for 3 months longer or more there will be a global depression like has never been seen.

Considering our elite politicians are holding the economic relief bill hostage because they want to add climate change agenda items to it that have nothing to do with solving this crisis. I’m going to say no, they don’t know more than us and instead are using this crisis as an opportunity to consolidate more power

Yes we will have football by the fall. If Americans are kept to their houses through April and into May, people will start rioting and rebelling. The government will back down. We the people....

Unfortunately “fear” isn’t the problem.....it’s a $&@(*$#@% virus from China that’s the problem, I have my doubts about the 2020 season, Go Vols.

The difference in this bad Chinese virus and the last 10 or so, that were bad viruses etc, is that this one has taken our nation by storm in the anxiety department. The fear has institutionalized (Govt, education, & commerce) and THAT has caused the widespread near panic situation IMO. People that I am personally witnessing are responding to RELATED things like "The NBA as shut down", "Costco shelves are empty", "The national guard has been called up", "Schools are cancelled", and "My job shut down" etc. All that stuff causes the sub-conscience mind to kick in to survival mode. I've watched it happen in friends and family for about 7-8 straight days or so now.

Corporate news and social media have turbocharged all this. That's how they get paid. Fear sells in a big way.

So, this is my hope. Once every community get's saturated with cases of this virus, and people realize it can have bad consequences for certain types of people. But that by and large most everyone lives on after being sick a week or so that gets infected. People in real life (Not TV or internet) realize that it's usually not the end of the world if one of the kid's gets Corona. Then it's going to naturally subside. People will wash their hands, and cover their mouths to sneeze, and stay away from crowds if their sick, and keep compromised people and elderly away from crowds etc etc ... just like is wise every flu season. THEN people will go "hey life has GOT to go on even if there is yet another risk in this world". And hey, CFB is only 3-4 months from now ... they better not screw that up.

Just my $.02 after living on this planet and observing human behavior for a lotta decades. Now, if I end up dead next week from the mighty Corona, then I'll have a family member post here that I was off base on my thoughts and hopes. :-D

I’m with you. A lot of message board google experts on here and Facebook spreading the idiocy. Fact is several corporations that know a lot more than the average person are losing billions because of this virus that some on here are saying isn’t as big a deal as flu.
