So what is the death rate? How did you arrive at it?

JFI, I agree that doing it this way is not accurate but it's what we have to work with. There are many uncounted numbers of those that have been asymptomatic, those who have stayed home ill and not reported and those who have fallen ill and not been tested. I believe that the death rate, at present, is much lower than 1%.

When tracking the flu, CDC seems to lag the data by a week to account for newly diagnosed patients. No one can know what the death rate is at this point. The rate of testing will skew the numbers drastically. The WHO gave the number of 3.4%. I don't believe that. The best estimates I've seen place it at 1%. That may be high, and opinions may vary, but even the lead epidemiologists are estimating at this point. I've just seen many posts today about how the death rate dropped overnight because X number of cases were confirmed. This virus is no more or no less deadly than it was yesterday. Some think it is blown out of proportion. Others think it is still being minimized. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle, but that is just my opinion.

Whatever it is, I wish it would GTFO.

I'd also add supply chain workers, truckers, doctors, nurses, etc.
William Shakespeare, "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers". Henry VI, part 2, Act IV, Scene 2

I still think it's unbelievable that somewhere we didn't have a reasonable stockpile of protective equipment. I mean, I get the cost of the ventilators and how stockpiling those would lead to problems of obsolescence. However, we've heard about chemical and biological warfare for years (not saying this is either on the part of China or anyone else), and I don't understand this country not having basic protective gear. That's not on Trump either. It goes way further back than that.

This may or may not have something to do with this administration, but to acknowledge the major problems is not something the healthcare lobbyists want the GOP to admit. It would be easy for Trump to get up on the podium and explain why it may not have been practical to have the stockpiles. The problem is that begs the question as to why, and the reason why is our healthcare isn’t driven by need, it’s driven by profit. Therefore the healthcare systems run at max capacity 24/7/365 with minimal resources. That’s a discussion the GOP doesn’t want to have when the majority of Americans are already extremely unhappy with our healthcare.

Instead, Trump is left with standing up there saying “we inherited a horrible situation” 3 years into his term, which then begs the question: if it was so bad, and you have the “best people”, why didn’t you fix it? Also a bad look for the administration but it doesn’t implicate our entire healthcare industry, and that makes the lobbyists happy. So here we are.

I've been a little behind on the news conference... but did Trump just suggest that his "kids' company" needs a bailout?
Actually, when looking at "Govt Bailouts", Nancy Pelosi made sure her husband's company got a huge bail-out last time the govt was handing out money. As far as I am seeing, Trump is wisely putting for the possibility of loans that must be paid back, and they come with stipulations, no CEO bonus money, no stock buy-backs etc. If giving free money away, as they did last time (Obama) was a bail out, what is a going to be called? "A Loan out" is a better description.

Actually heard a story on the news that FEMA sent some N95's to a hospital and they were useless. The elastic straps dry rotted.

It's hard to say what is what in this bill, we have either side claiming the other is making absurd demands. probably so.

Last stimulus was across party lines and heavily favored democrat loyalists. Now the tables have turned and the only reason it didn’t pass along party lines in because 5 republicans are now quarantined!!

Who-hoo..vindication that my math for 2 months of TP in my home was correct with a few extras for when my kids call up mom because their homes ran out. I bought one mega roll pack every week starting before the end of January.😂

You avoided a catastrophe.

My Kroger had plenty today.

Loaning money to large corporations, with stipulations to make sure the treasury is paid in full, with interest, is okay, if it helps keep millions of Americans in their jobs. The one time "free money" to individuals is also okay with me, as long as they are tax payers. The trash in our society that has never worked a job (an honest job) and selling dope on the corner does not count. Should not receive a dime, far too many of these are already getting free housing, free utilities, free food, and all the handouts they can find-many will take anything but a job.

Mine too. Good News-Costco has a NO RETURN POLICY on TP and PT, and canned food Items-you buy $1,000.00 worth-you keep a thousand dollars worth!! I heard why the liberals are buying so much TP, if one of them sneezes 15 shi* their pants..

"People are feeling pent-up, they want to get outside.. they want to get onto airplanes.."

maybe a little paraphrased, but... airplanes?

Not that it's a big deal but it was worse. He kept saying "They are dying to go outside," "dying" to get on airplanes. Not a good choice of words but we know what he meant.

I'm sorry, but if anyone felt confident after that press conference, hopefully it wasn't due to Trump.

I missed your post. Thanks for asking.

Yes, he and my mother have stayed out of public for 10 days, plus. My sister runs for groceries for them as she lives 5 minutes away from them. She may move in a couple of weeks in which case we will all have to take turns making that trip.

I hope everyone here and their families are healthy and being careful.
We've got my dad quarantined. My sister and I run stuff to him. My fear is one of us will give it to him.

He has to go for some mandatory blood work. His doctor's office called and asked him if he had a cough or had shortness of breath. He said he did but it was because of his lung condition, that's why he needed a blood test to make sure his meds aren't hurting his liver function. She said he would have to be tested for COV-19. So now he has to go to the hospital to get tested before he can go to get his blood work. Doubles his chance if being exposed.

Details are sketchy but apparently $500 billion of the proposed aid is corporate, with no, or very few, restrictions. That's why the Dems opposed it an hour ago. May need Trump to weigh in on the no stock buy backs.
Details are in deed "sketchy". Apparently, $357 Billion is being asked by Pelosi and Bernie Sanders, to go for jobs for EX Solendra executives, large grant to Cuba, 29 Billion to Hollywood to make instructional films about the virus, 3 billion more to NPR, and 2.56 Billion to the American Arts Council, with NO, or very few restrictions, Republicans say NO, this is why the Dems are opposing, and won't sit down for a serious discussion, no doubt Trump will have to weigh in on the NO stock Buy Back they he demands (one of the very few....) and/or the CEO bonus's until all the money is paid back to the US. Of course we really don't know ANYTHING until the give and take is over, to get all excited before the negotiation is finished is silly, it's as if some people don't understand Negotiations at all.
