Then I post some statistics about your argument over a 70 year period and you argue that I'm cherry picking and that it is a bad analogy? My whole point is that it is an idiotic comparison! This is the horse you are beating.

Car crashes and coronavirus are only related in cases where, like what is happening in Italy right now, a crash crash patient who otherwise could be saved shows up at a hospital overwhelmed with corona patients and then can't get the help they need and dies. That death doesn't list under corona, but the patient would have been alive in a no corona health system.

Another reason this analogy is stupid is that we DO care about car crashes and the trauma they cause. The amount of scientist and engineering hours spent making cars safer is astronomical. We are at the beginning of this crisis and even the car manufacturers are starting to use their knowledge to help us out of this situation where we are so far behind the curve.

Get over yourself. There is no unity in this country. Hell, before 9/11, we were divided as ever, and we are even further divided now, thanks to Obama, the media, and their freedom-loathing followers.

Come together, for what? To get past something that has been blown enormously out of proportion, only to have greater division afterward? This is what many have asked for, so I suggest we give it to them.

I mean, we have idiots here claiming that referring to this pathogen as a Chinese virus, is racist. Those are people who deserve no help, no unity, and certainly no sympathy.

I don't think people who are trying to keep the health care capacity from being overwhelmed are panicking. They are just doing the math, and coming to obvious conclusions.

We need 5 times more respirators than we currently have in New York State, for example. That is a challenge that must be met.

Your claim that we are going to "annihilate society" by trying to bend the transmission curve sounds a lot more like panic to me.

Was only responding to the notion that we'd be just dandy. For example, my new hobby of electronics repair: Components ranging from capacitors to integrated circuits are virtually nonexistent domestically. We'd be screwed. But hey we could go full steampunk, until we get our **** back together.

Again, not saying it's going to happen, only that our chest thumping is mostly hollow, as far as our independence goes.

Thank you for your free and frank expression of your thoughts. I celebrate your ability to say whatever you want. I agree that the argument about what to call the virus is PC bullsh*t.

I am becoming more and more disappointed with the President over this, he has let the left wing media drag him into acting like this is the end of the world. We need leadership right now and sadly we aren't getting it from anyone.

This is an amazing country that can do anything when we all pull together in the same direction . Other than China no other country on the planet comes close . I think it’s crazy to depend on another country for the absolute products you need to safeguard its citizens . We have allowed ourself through these economic globalization programs to do just that . Think about the absurdity of having to wait on masks made in China to reach our citizens because that’s where they are made . The logic behind that is pure insanity.
