Stores are insane around here. No toilet paper,no sanitizer or anything closely related. Even can goods are limited right now. Pretty much every college is closed and doing online classes only, every elementary/high school is closed for at least 2 weeks.

The information that Shades is sharing is part of the problem. Helps fuel the hysteria. You can make any numbers look like hard numbers. The death rate can be manipulated by the study population.

Broaden the population and the numbers fall.

The recommendation that households have two weeks of groceries and sundries on hand for a potential self-quarantine prompted the recent run on stores. The recommendation for avoidance of large gatherings and social distancing is based upon observations of previous similar infectious disease outbreaks. We, the people are attempting to halt the growth in new infections. Success will lessen the toll and shorten the period of adverse impact. I'm willing to do my part.

But evidence from sophisticated European nations (I don’t trust any info from China), is that this thing will cripple our healthcare system if we take a do-nothing approach.

I don’t think we prevent that by just asking old folks to stay home. The rest of us can carry this around (and potentially get quite sick) too.

Point is the this virus is less deadly than the flu. .04 compared to .1.

The media has caused the panic so instead of flooding our medical system with over reaction causing the true illness to be be swallowed up...

So if your sick stay home, if its bad go to the er. If not go to work...simple. stop being sheep

Oh btw if you doubt my numbers according to world meters.com

There have been 162,418 cases and 6086 deaths...
Math is fun!!!

It may not be like the flu, but to be honest, if we treated the flu with a much vigilance in terms of prevention on a personal level as this virus, the flu would be less of the issue it is.

The whole issue we are dealing with now, is the fact that people are not personally vigilant when dealing with viruses that spread easily. If you are sick, stay home, if you have a major runny nose and are coughing everywhere you go, stay home. People just don't have the decency they used to have when dealing with being sick, and this is why something as infectious as this virus is, is being treated as it is. It's not just the media driving the panic, but people's inability to be socially responsible as well.

That’s incredibly wrong.

Seasonal flu has a mortality rate of .1% while Coronavirus is trending around 3.5% according to WHO. The numbers you just used yourself would put it at 3.7% which would be 37 times more deadly than flu.

The Coronavirus number is likely a lot lower than 3.5%.... but even if it’s only 1% we’re still looking at something way worse than flu.

This will end soon and we will get back to spring/summer practice. Unfortunately March Madness and baseball spring training are cancelled and I am going nuts. I go to You Tube and watch some of our classic games. Just watched the Miracle in South Bend and enjoyed watching the smug ND fans change expressions after half time.

My math was wrong. I said it was fun...when all is settled the end result will mostly be the same as the flu..still no reason for the panic. If we didnt panic for N1H1 4.5% death rate. And that avg median age of death was 40. Not 80...We are all good

Nothing like facts!!!! We (the USA) are now at 3/15/2020-It seem strange that we haven't heard of the over a million dead from over a month ago!! There should be 10s of millions dead by now, according to this experts graphs. Do you think maybe, just maybe, a little politics has entered into the situation, and those making crazy-far fetched-predictions are getting more air time than they should?

The red Chinese have been the most effected, but I do not think they Know More about it. I think they are still eating Bats. For actual knowledge regarding the virus, I'll stick with American Scientists, real scientists, those without a political agenda.

People need to get over the “only media hype” narrative.

All of these sports organizations aren’t forfeiting billions of dollars because the media scared them into it. Disney doesn’t shut down parks and offer to continue paying employees on the whims of media hype. These are not decisions being made lightly.

It's also the first one you can walk around contagious for 4 to 14 days without symptoms.

Incomparable to any other coronavirus.

Where are you getting the 4.5% death rate for N1H1? I can't find any source anywhere with the percentage being that high.
