Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Do you know how you got infected?

Not for sure. At the time I thought it was just something I got from our granddaughter, 2 year olds are disease factories. But our son works for a Chinese owned company and they have people going back and forth all the time and him and his wife were sick right before we got it. Nowhere near as bad but still sick so maybe he got it from one of his Chinese coworkers?

Let's be honest, the media is as responsible for the hysteria as anyone here. Sensationalizing instead of fact driven information. The last great flu outbreak was much worse but wasn't publicized the way this has been. Leadership was lacking then as well but there was no panic.

Yeah.... Unfortunately, "if it bleeds, it leads" is still what drives the news.

But.... So far the numbers seem to be pointing toward something that's more serious than the flu with nothing to do to keep it in check but to limit exposure. Once there's a vaccine thing's will change. Until the anti-vaxxers get going with IT.......

I just don't seem to have it in me to say "la-di-da let's just sit around and do nothing, spread the crap (I"M young, I'LL be fine)" while people die that didn't have to. I'm at least willing to make a few reasonable sacrifices......

In a few, sure. What pissed me off the other day wasn't that people were buying too much toilet paper, it was that they didn't have the courtesy to let me through the isle, with their TP laden buggies parked right in the middle. I should have just grabbed some to make a scene.
People are losing their mind over tp because they are whipped into frenzy. Logical and critical thinking should offer everyone any number of options/substitutes for said item.

Ok, if you take out aircraft and military goods, where do we stand? Second question - where's China on that chart? Third - where do we get the raw material like metals to build aircraft and other military goods? By comparison why is our percentage of national output by manufacturing barely above half the national output of Japan and Germany ... I'm sure we both know the answer to that because those two items are about the only thing that keeps the economy afloat, and thanks to the SA/Russia spat one of those is taking a dump.

You can carry on with life and be vigilant and minimize your risk and risk to others. There is nothing any president could do to prevent an outbreak like this save effectively shutting down the nation which I could argue very easily would almost certainly have caused/contributed to the deaths of far more people than this virus.

You can criticize some of Trump's rhetoric on the virus this far but his actions/reactions have been on point to varying degrees. I guess I just don't understand what you expect from leadership in this situation.

Logic , chilling out , washing your hands like an adult , if you have a fever stay away from people , stop running to the ER when you aren’t sick , trying to catch stuff from actual sick people just to see if you can get tested , stop spreading rumors , stop watching 24 hour a day news cycles ... I can go on for days but they will all include some form of self responsibility. I don’t need the our president to to rub my head and tell me things are ok . Stop acting like teenagers and flipping out over things you can’t control .
edit : that came out a little harsher than I meant for it to .

I actually don't have a single problem with that. Unfortunately, there ARE people that will start "...acting like teenagers and flipping out over things you can’t control ."

SOMEONE (gee, maybe the President of our country for instance?) should stand up and say "Look people!! Knock it off! This isn't good, but it isn't something out of a Stephen King book, either. Here's what's happening. Here's what we're going to do about it." NOT "It's all under control" when it very obviously ISN"T. When you think you're being lied to you make up your own reasons for WHY you're being lied to. Did you like it when your parents told you "Because I said so"?

Mobs are only as smart as their least-intelligent person.

He just wants to bitch about Trump.

Lots of things cause people to die when they didn't have to. Unfortunately, that's part of life. You can't stop death, and if you live in fear of it, you miss out on a lot of living.

I agree he should say that , I also think we depend way too heavily on government to fix every single little thing for us . I see the pros of our government doing what they can to stop the spread I also see a huge downside and almost always ends up costing the American people some right or liberty for “ safety’s sake “ . It’s the easiest way government gains more power , through a national emergency.

Yeah, thing is, I never heard a word about TP hoarding before I witnessed it. I usually have news going as background noise, but really nothing about the TP.

It'd be interesting to see the chain of events that got it started... could have been a store rearranging their layout, and people couldn't find the TP, and dominoes started falling. But it's bizarre.

Follow this story over the next few days. Tons of people returning from infested Europe who are now packed like sardines in customs waiting reentry.
