Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Different times.
Obama screws up... media silence
Trump gets 2 scoops of ice cream... media meltdown

Those that cant understand him not voluntarily taking blame for something he didn’t do simply wont get it.
You must not be a fox news viewer.....all.they did was screech....

You know what helps to prevent that?

Leadership.
Let's be honest, the media is as responsible for the hysteria as anyone here. Sensationalizing instead of fact driven information. The last great flu outbreak was much worse but wasn't publicized the way this has been. Leadership was lacking then as well but there was no panic.

All those Tumpsters in New York, Washington, and San Francisco didn’t take it seriously and now look at them. Thankfully the residents of West Virginia are dedicated CNN viewers and have so far been spared by this “not made in China that would be racist” virus
They just started testing in WV. It's impossible to classify an infection if you can't test for it.

You know what helps to prevent that?

Leadership.

Logic , chilling out , washing your hands like an adult , if you have a fever stay away from people , stop running to the ER when you aren’t sick , trying to catch stuff from actual sick people just to see if you can get tested , stop spreading rumors , stop watching 24 hour a day news cycles ... I can go on for days but they will all include some form of self responsibility. I don’t need the our president to to rub my head and tell me things are ok . Stop acting like teenagers and flipping out over things you can’t control .
edit : that came out a little harsher than I meant for it to .

The black lady and manager were in the right there. Don't let the other ladies engage in the hoarding behavior
Who are you or them to judge what is hoarding and what isn't in that situation. For instance what if this woman cannot drive and has a family member take them to buy essentials for the month. Maybe that second pack of toilet paper is a necessity for them.

No. However, even you can't deny that this virus is bringing out the worst/stupidest in humanity

In a few, sure. What pissed me off the other day wasn't that people were buying too much toilet paper, it was that they didn't have the courtesy to let me through the isle, with their TP laden buggies parked right in the middle. I should have just grabbed some to make a scene.

I got to see the other side of it . This specific corporation i was talking about , has a community first approach that many people don’t get to see . I’ve seen it sponsor uniforms for little league teams that couldn’t afford to buy them , food pantries and soup kitchens filled to overflow , I watched them take over a hundred angels off the angel Christmas tree , we took the competition BBQ cooker 100 miles and fed everyone in Smithville Ms when the F5 wiped the town out . I know you were probably talking about everyday consumer product companies , I can only speak to this company in particular.

I believe you, and there are other companies like that. One of my favorites was years ago - the guy who made something like polar fleece - for Lands End maybe. The factory burned, he kept the employees on payroll, and together they rebuilt the company. Seems like Lands End waited for them to be back in business and didn't go elsewhere for supplies. Bill Gates is a huge philanthropist, but MS could have sold their products for less - less for philanthropy but perhaps cheaper operating systems and products could have made some small startups profitable enough to survive. Business is there to profit; has to work that way. My first economics course, as I recall, said if you can't make more from business than from investing the money, invest the money. Still, we're all in this together, so what does it mean if someone wins the world and everybody else loses - we have to all win to some extent.

@NurseGoodVol

I am struggling with something my company is doing. I am in the restaurant business. We are excluding anyone who has fever, cough, shortness of breath. If they are being tested for COVID-19, confirmed, or if they are in close contact with anyone who fits that description. They can’t return to work without a medical release saying they are safe to work around food. My concern is that are we just overloading health care providers with people showing up? Thoughts?
Well the old " once the fever is gone you are ok" is toast. Considering drs offices aren't really going to be able to test or even some hospitals for corona what is a Dr going to release them saying? Aww your lymph cell count was high, but that can point to several tests to rule out whatever is suspected. The employee would incur testing costs to return to work. Some people can't afford to go get that note. There is no easy answer.
If they show up obviously looking like they are ill, coughing all over, sneezing, flushed, they should go home. It's absolute pandemonium with F&B staffing. I think requiring a note gives you no guarentees of their " wellness and safety"

This isn't "bad optics".... This is lack of leadership. Trump's primary mission in life has been to simply "undo" anything that a Democrat before him had done.

Unfortunately, this calls for some kind of real leadership and he simply doesn't have it in him. You'll point to the change of heart that has led to more emergency measures..... I'll point to the fact that he should have listened in the first ******* place. There's a reason why "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is a truism.

lol We don't have real leadership in this country. Do you think Biden will be a good "leader"? Would Hillary have been? How about Mitch or Nancy in their respective leadership positions in the Senate and the House? Was Obama a good leader? It's all a matter of opinion, but my opinion is no. Good leadership is something this country has lacked for awhile. No, we get party puppets.

But all of that belies the point that nothing was going to stop the spread of this virus. Leadership has nothing to do with it. More testing wasn't going to stop this virus. Telling people "it's a big deal, you need to panic" wasn't going to stop this virus. Nothing Trump could have done was going to stop this virus. Pretending that it would have is ignorant. If we knew how to stop the spread of viruses we would have done it a long time ago with the flu.

Trump has made missteps. No denying that. But this virus was going to spread no matter if he did everything right.
