Coronavirus (No politics)

First I know all this panic is BS. But I am needing some advice.

My 15 year old daughter is supposed to go on a spring break beach trip to FL panhandle on Saturday. Would you let her go?

I’m not concerned about the virus. But I am concerned about her being 8 hours away with all this general uncertainty and various cancellations.

TIA

Probably no serious health concerns for her as an individual, but I would probably be extra cautious and not let her go. With this situation evolving so rapidly, I would be very uneasy with her being hundreds of miles away with the uncertainty surrounding what actions the state and local governments might take to combat the spread.

Do you think as others do that this won’t survive warm temps with high humidity?
Hard to say, yet. I think the likely scenario is that it will die out or move to the southern hemisphere. Considering the behavior of other respiratory viruses and also the current paucity of cases below the equator, that's my best guess.

. Probaly not my grandmother who is 87 and almost died last year from pneumonia. She is in a nursing home in West Tennessee
That's where this hits home. There will definitely be quite a bit of mortality in the frail, elderly population. I hope that the goal of all these closures is really to limit community spread so that it is less likely to make it into nursing homes, assisted living, hospitals, etc. That's where you are most likely to see poor outcomes.

I underestimated the degree of fear in people.

I admit when I'm wrong. I was wrong.:(
I know, I'm just ribbing you. I'm a little more on the front lines and could sense the panic setting in. My wife thought I was going crazy when I warned her two weeks ago to go ahead and get some extra groceries and essentials. She's thanking me now, as the Costco lines are to the back of the store!

Is it true or false? My grandparents are old as well. They could get it or die. They could get it and be fine. They could not get it at all.
Having lost all four of mine, two of which I was very close to, I can assure you that it can be a painful experience. I just think that we could all stand to give a little extra compassion and thoughtfulness toward others as we ride through this crisis.

I may have missed something, but I hope nursing homes and assisted living centers suspend family visits if they haven't already. That's terrible to imagine not being able to go see a family member, but if there's any chance it could keep them healthy during this crisis, it's best to do it

They are limiting "not-essential visitors," as are hospitals.

Aaaaaand, Knox County Schools have closed (tomorrow, then spring break, then -- who knows?)

I wasn't around, and thank goodness social media wasn't either, but I couldn't imagine the amount of panic that the Cuban Missile Crisis back in the 60's would generate today.o_O

I understand the concern, but the panic is unbelievable.

We had drills in school, and some folks built bomb shelters.

Most of the area elderly facilities have suspended all outside visitors, except home health and health care employees (they have to wear full protective gear before entering and showing no sign of illness), I know my facility is taking every precaution.

I went to Kroger today just to grab a couple things and laughed that the toilet paper really was sold out. Lady doing inventory said “Yeah people went stupid”.

Joke will be on me if they don’t get any more in within the week though.
