First I know all this panic is BS. But I am needing some advice.

My 15 year old daughter is supposed to go on a spring break beach trip to FL panhandle on Saturday. Would you let her go?

I’m not concerned about the virus. But I am concerned about her being 8 hours away with all this general uncertainty and various cancellations.

TIA

Primarily because a large portion of Chinese citizens still live in extreme poverty. They live in very close contact with animals, including chickens, bats and pigs that have all been shown to pass respiratory illnesses to humans at different times.
It really was a rhetorical question I suppose as I knew the answer. I've been an advocate of pulling back our products and manufacturing from China for years. China only cares about power. It's one thing to buy a Chinese TV, it's quite another to purchase food and medications from that fifthly communist regime. Anyone who did not realize this would come back to bite us in the ass is blind. I personally look for products that are not made in China.

I would be concerned with being around so many people from so many different places.

1800 dollars. Why is that??
I was about to respond to that quoted post. That number can't be right. Children's Hospital runs a respiratory PCR (which is likely what was being referenced) on a regular basis for sick younger pts, and we send them periodically. I'll get a number, but I think it's around $300-400.

I would be concerned about my 15yo daughter going on a beach spring break to Florida. Period.

I’ve been there. It’s not a place for a 15yo girl unless she’s leashed to a parent at all times lol.

I'm going down there Saturday as well. Renting a house and driving so contact with those not in our family will be minimal - not much different than staying home. Plan to cook at the rental mostly and keep distance if at the beach. Hopefully, they will signal if a lockdown is coming so that breakers can get home but who knows.

no doubt, I would say the bigger issue is all the partying going on down there. I'd be more concerned with that than coronavirus

I'm not worried yet, but I'm monitoring the situation closely.

If people start dropping dead in Western countries, then it's time to start stocking up on food, water, and ammo.
If that comes to pass it's not goingto be what you have it will be what you can keep.

I've been watching this with interest for a while. I'm in 911 dispatch and we're having to adjust our protocols for sick calls. Personally I'm cautious about the disease. I think I fall into a moderate risk category. I have a long history of allergies/ sinusitis leading to bronchitis and pneumonia. I've also recently started cocentix treatments for my psoriasis, and that is also supposed to increase my risk for respiratory problems/ pneumonia. So, I'm cautiously interested, but not worried yet. Just taking normal flu season precautions.

As far as the insanity of the public, I wouldn’t let her go without a good adult you trust with her. I just don’t trust people right now. As far as the virus, she’s 15 and otherwise healthy so not a real concern there for her.

Knowing what I did and who when I was on spring break trips there’s no way in hell I’d let my 15 year old go

$800-ish billed, $500+ after cash adjustment
