NCAA Tournament to be held without fans

It’s true that the media coverage is instilling panic and fear. It’s also true that sports leagues are more concerned about getting sued than safety of the fans.
However, it’s also imperative for our healthcare industry to contain the spread of the virus as much as possible to flatten out the number of people infected over time. The higher the spike, the less equipped we will be to treat, including someone you might know and love.

I am very against these decisions BUT if I was In authority I think I’d have no choice but to do the same.

think about if if I get infected with the virus tomorrow at the tourney I in no way will fear for my life BUT if I then expose the virus to my elderly mother whom isn’t in great health and she dies what’s next ?

I can tell you exactly what’s next and that is the SEC would be liable
How would you prove you contracted the virus at the tourney? In a fair trial there’s no way the NCAA could be liable as you could have gotten it walking down the street, at the gas station, at the hotel, anywhere you ate, etc

This virus is 10x more contagious than the Flu and 10x more deadly. YALL do the math. If we normally have 10 million cases of the flu and 25k deaths, then extrapolate that to 100 million cases and 2.5 million Deaths---more likely 6 million based on what we know from China and Italy. and It was "released "in China; most likely for the Purpose that it is now serving everywhere. Depopulate, and Destabilize .

So much fear porn...lol

Why are you ignoring South Korea has performed more testing than any other nation I have seen (well over 140 k tests) and their worst case projected mortality rate as of now is 1.5% and that assumes all patients who are in serious or critical condition die (not likely to happen)? Also, why have the daily new cases dropped to near zero in China (which has an abundance of people and crowded cities)?

The point is that as more testing is performed it is very likely that we discover that many more mild cases existed than was previously known which will bring down the mortality rates (nevermind the effect of higher quality care in western nations) which seems to be corroborated by the South Korean numbers and was actually predicted by some leading health experts.

well as I see it playing games without people is like watching paint dry I have always thought that the athelets fed off the crowds reaction. the media is wanting us to stay at home and turn into a police state and as long as they gonna play the games let the people who are fans decide weather they want to go or not.

Police state? Hyperbole much?

C’mon! I’m not desensitizing this thing in no way, and your gonna call me out on something like people losing their life, When politicians are using this virus to push their political agenda?
GBO!!

Amazing how people get it twisted...covid-19 can be real yet used to try and score political points at the same time. Based on the facts as of now, the fearmongering is unwarranted and covid-19 will likely fall far short of the doomsday predictions.

The Coronavirus was planned by China.

Ironic how it seems to be getting better over there but worse everywhere else.

It sounds crazy, but they kept the WHO out. Their evil leaders can never be trusted. I hope that Trump, Biden, or any POTUS will keep turning the economic screws on them.

China did some extreme isolation and monitoring after letting it spread like idiots initially, I think. Sounded like you had to do a health check before entering work

I still have a hard time believing the “let 800 of their own people die so they could mess up people’s retirement and inconvenience the US for a few months” narrative. This and the media hype around it will die down by November for sure.

There have been 129,590 cases world wide of the corona virus, of them:
4,749 resulted in death.
68,670 have full recovered.
56,171 who are currently fighting off the disease.

So far this flu season 16,000people have died, and 280,000 have been hospitalized..
They are using a virus to negatively effect the economy in an election year.

By the end of June there will be 1,000 dead here in the US

Not to belittle this stat at ALL, but the deaths from Flu will far exceed this number (and does every year).
And the majority of these deaths (again not to belittle this point at ALL) will be with the elderly population with other underlying conditions.
(Before you jump on me, believe me I have sympathy for elderly population with underlying conditions - my Dad had COPD and I was terrified of him getting the Flu)

You can’t compare the overall # of deaths due to the flu having infected far more people in the US. What everyone is trying to prevent is COVID-19 becoming as widespread as the flu because it is 10X - 30X as deadly as the flu. That is the assessment of Dr Fauci and you should trust his assessment.

Dr Fauci was appointed as the director of the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases by Regan in 1984 and still holds the position. Over the past 36 years 6 Presidents have turned to him for assessments on the threats diseases pose to the American public and the best way to deal with them. He recently addressed Congress and answered their questions about COVID-19. You can find this on YouTube.

Looking more like it's going to be fans without tournaments. Knowing that the NCAA actually has insurance on the tournament, they'll be the next to cancel I suspect.

I haven't read this whole thread so I don't know who needs to hear this, but all of these measures aren't because COVID-19 is going to kill us all, but it is very contagious and it is notably deadlier than the flu. We have to stop the number of cases from spiking and overwhelming the healthcare system with people who actually need it. If you slow the spread of cases over time, we can handle it and give life saving care to all who need it. If you just let it "run its course" like we do with the less contagious, less deadly flu, then more people are sick and using more ICU units. This takes vents and other resources away from people who need them, not to mention people who need ICU units for other reasons.

This virus is very deadly to people that you know and love. Some of them may be younger than you with immune system issues, or currently taking cancer treatments that reduce your ability to fight infection like my mom. I hate how a lot of things that I love are being cancelled, but I understand why.

Might as well go all in fighting it instead of a little here and a little there. Just shut everything down for a few weeks. It would also help knock down the flu.

I was in the fourth row last year to watch us lose to that stupid foul call against Purdue. Happened right in front of me.

It was the greatest, terrible experience of my life.
That was a bs call. Just like the charge called against Michigan that kept us out of the elite 8. Big 10 bias.

How any people have had the flu this year? My guess it is a huge number. That doesn't help your argument.
