The WHO last reported it at 3.4%. That’s at least 10x higher mortality rate than the flu. It’s also more transmissable than the flu.

Yes, the flu kills tens of thousands each year and the total number of cases and deaths from covid-19 is not nearly that large yet. People who keep saying this to downplay the situation are missing the point though. We don’t want this to go into permanent circulation! We don’t need another, worse flu every year on top of the existing diseases. We need this to go the way of SARS and MERS.

I'm at the center of the outbreak and I'm not too worried about my family's health. But I am concerned that the response has been too lackadaisical on many levels and containment may soon be a lost hope.

Again, the comment on containment in relation to this virus is hysterically absurd.

Well, thankfully Trump reversed the nonexistent Obama rule on testing, plus he is pushing to close the border to stop incoming virus from Mexico, which is about 0.000001 % concern.

The death rate freaks a lot of people out, but here is what many don't seem to realize: this virus causes symptoms that resemble the common cold in mild cases. Most people who experience what they assume to be a common cold don't go to the doctor and thus are never tested. There are likely thousands upon thousands of those cases worldwide, and maybe even a hundred or more in the US. For that reason, it's my belief that the real fatality rate is considerably lower than the 3.4% being reported.

With that being said, I think I saw where this is quite a bit more contagious than the flu.
