2020 Primaries

Not everybody wants to have their taxes increased to further grow the welfare state.

And not everyone wants to receive free government cheese.

Why don’t we set up a program where people can voluntarily pay more in taxes to support a person in need? This would be the most novel solution in a free market society.

It could operate via an app. You browse profiles and sign up for who you want to support.

Maybe Jane’s profile in Tualatin, OR catches your eye, and you sympathize with her plight. You opt to have X dollars per month withheld to go straight to Jane’s bank account or onto her EBT.

We could get the healthcare.gov people to build the app.

You're not living in the real world. Think about the unintended consequences of what you're proposing...

OK, everyone gets to go to the doctor free of any charge or paperwork. You can go with every runny nose or sore spot on your body. Doctors/hospitals will get paid like they do for Medicare right now. Imagine the lines that'd form as you struggle to get an appointment. Imagine how much harder the doctors, nurses, hospitals etc will have to work in order to keep up with demand as they take a huge pay cut. Many will quit seeing that it's not worth it. Hospitals will go bankrupt. Rationing of care will happen like you've never seen it. Seriously, this would be ugly. Fortunately the powers that be know this so therefore it ain't happenin'

See the issue right now is we are already rationing care. There is about 25% who already wouldn't get care because they'd go bankrupt either because they are uninsured or poorly insured.

And we already have hospitals going bankrupt.

Wait times might be evident in the first few years as those rush in who haven't been able to afford it, but with better preventative care that other nations have, we have less problems down the road.

What was wrong about my statement?

In 1960, you would not have had to work all that long in a typical 40 hr week job to have those things.

Now, you work 40 hours pay half your wages for rent. Drive a crappy car or go way into debt for a good one. And don't even dream of having a house or healthcare.

So vague but:

In 1960 you rarely ate out for any meal. You or someone in your family made the food. You didn't have a cell subscription, an Internet connection, cable TV or streaming bills. If you had a car there was one for the family. Your kids didn't any number of lessons post school and most likely they started working before they were 16 years old. Your job didn't provide health insurance.

If you live like people did in 1960 you can afford housing and a car.

Again work shaming. Go to minimum wage workers and say it to their face.

Our economy needs those workers. It doesn't matter if everyone was a 200 IQ genius, we would still need those jobs

It’s not work shaming. He’s correct. All you have to do is show up and your employer will raise you above min wage. If you’re two years into a job and still making min wage, something is very wrong.

LOL.......They made the loans because they thought it was guaranteed risk free profit.
Quick recap:

.gov gets involved in loan business
Banks realize they can make hand over fist cash in gov backed loans
Universities continue to raise tuition, bc why not the bank will loan the money, and offer worthless degrees
People take crappy loans, can’t default against them bc .gov says so,
and are stuck with crippling debt

But now we want the government to be more involved in health care? Sounds like a sound strategy.

Jobs that pay 7.25 serves one of 2 purposes, college or high school kids or for an adult those jobs can be one hell of a motivator to do something better.

No one even a HSer should make 7.25 first off.

Second, you act like these workers are bottom of the barrel scum.

These are hard working, red blooded Americans who if they work their ass off for 40 hours a week deserve a baseline of living.

You know the reds hate this, although most won't openly admit it.

What I felt inaprooriate was the parents who thought a 9 year old should ask that question in front of America. Why do the parents not feel that they are the ones who should help this little fellow through this situation? How can you at 9 know you are gay? How can you know you are straight? Hope the kid achieves whatever he sets his mind to in life gay or not and is not haunted by this public question the rest of his life.

What would you like to know?

You do realize Bernie's point is not that Pete is buying the campaign. It's that why would we trust a campaign in which billionaires are so enthusiastic about.

He isn't being disingenuous, he is just appealing to a different voting Bloc than you.

Why would we trust a socialist politician that uses magic math and promises of free programs and debt forgiveness as a way to “ better our society “ ?

Lol so for you the difference is we watch too much TV/streaming? And eat out more?

LMAO

No bud, wage growth has collapsed. Healthcare costs have blown up, education costs are blown up, and housing has blown up.

minimum wage jobs help young people get job experience, they are not supposed to to support families or hell anyone living on their own.

WTH are you to tell a company what they have to pay? If you want a job that pays more than $7.25 an hour create yourself a skill set that commands more than $7.25 an hour.

You don't have to. Just need more people constituting electoral college states and that should do it.

Who are you to say how much someone should make? How about you leave that up to the person that actually employs the individual. If a person wants to make a higher wage then they have a few options. One, ask for a raise. Trust me if you’re a good employee, you’ll probably get your raise. Two, don’t accept the job that pays you poorly. Three, find another job that pays you what you believe that you are worth.

BS Again .. have you ever spoken to other people in these other nations about their healthcare and wait times ?

Great, by that logic let's just abolish it.

*Pauses with the slow realization that you all probably want that*

You realize Bernie owns 3 homes, is a millionaire, and has never worked a day in his life.
