Kobe Bryant dead

Low hanging fruit. Sure must be easy to sh*t on the dead.
If you read my other posts, you will see that is not the intention at all.

Kobe has a mixed legacy, with a lot of great athletic, social, and family accomplishments after this accusation.

The issue in question is the claim that his accuser had no credibility because she was not a virgin.

Or in other words, way to sh#t on the potential victim of a sex crime.

That ain't what he's saying at all but for the love of God, can we move on.

I’m not getting into the events of Colorado but just because someone had sex before the incident doesn’t mean that their story is any less credible. It’s highly irresponsible to say so. Doesn’t matter if someone had sex with 50 partners before the incident occurred. Using “oh this person had sex before the incident so it’s not as credible” is ridiculous.
I am not saying its true or not , I was not there. Neither was you or anybody else commenting. Just because she yelled rape does not make her story true either. Many people , men and women have went after stars one way or another through out life and I am not saying she went after Kobe. So its ridiculous to think because she yelled rape means that it happened.

No more convenient than your slanted views due to loving someone because they can throw a ball in a hole.
I’m not a Kobe or Lakers fan. Hated them but respected the team.Actually all the players and teams I rooted for were big rivals of the Lakers. (Dr J, Bird and Jordan).

I love all the bad takes. Rapist and adulterer are pretty good, but I especially like:

He was just a basketball player. What's up with our priorities? Why doesn't anybody care about the other people who died? - virtue signaling guy

We know who Kobe was. He meant something to us. We didn't know the other people involved. The baseball coach's family is mourning he and his daughter's death more than Kobe because they are the ones they knew better. There is nothing wrong with that, just like there is nothing wrong with everybody else making a bigger deal about Kobe. Strangers die tragically every day and we don't have the ability to put much care into each one individually.

Agreed some people are so bitter, outraged or critical of frivolous things. I think most of us feel for everyone involved and once they would've announced a helicopter crash in California we all would've felt for the families involved. Kobe made this feel personal and a wakeup call that this can happen to anyone.

I was speaking to the idol worship of pro athletes, never mentioned you were a fan of him particularly.

What happened here is so tragic. But beyond the people that are really hurting here(immediate family, friends, associates), I find the reactions of people that really had no connection with this guy, kind of strange.

Same feeling as I would have had with any people that get caught up in these situations for people like Elvis, Micheal Jackson, etc.

How and why has this thread gotten off track?Fortunately Kobe was a non-political figure in sports and that is part of what made him very likeable. Also, an accusation made against someone doesn't make it fact. This thread would be better served to go somewhere else with mudslinging.

My wife and I separated last week. Haven't spoken to her. But I sent this last night...'I guess you heard about Kobe. I just wanted to let you know I will always love you. Life can be taken away quick and we never get the last chance to say I love you. Not sure if you will respond, but please don't.'

Just wanted to say I love you, just in case...
Sounds like you’re going through a difficult time. Did she respond?

It's good to turn someone else's sad event into an introspective moment. Perk and Durant have been feuding a while and Perk reached out yesterday to squash it. Whatever happens, Perk is a better man for it.

I saw that. Things like this put everything into perspective. That's the good that comes from it. In the last few weeks I have completely changed how I see things. I am 47.

Damn. Sorry to hear man. You have my number

Kobe was only couple of years younger than me, and I remember watching him at his best on the court. He really seemed like he was headed for something BIG in his post-basketball life as an artist and potentially a businessman. Plus, it really looked like he had an excellent family life going, especially with the relationship he had with his oldest daughter. Dang. I found myself getting choked up watching some the coverage and the subsequent tributes. Brought back some GREAT memories of him and it is truly sad to think that he is no longer with us.

here's a relevant link that speaks to the journalistic standards of reporting on the rape allegation against Kobe
Washington Post Suspends Reporter After She Tweets About Kobe Bryant Rape Case
A reporter was suspended for even tweeting a link about the incident.

Interestingly, an opinion piece on that firing, published in the Washington Post no less, calls the suspension misguided.

There is no clear right or wrong here.

This is a perfect example of a situation where you can agree with the criticisms each side makes but not be contradictory.

Sonmez isn't wrong to say that his rape case is part of Kobe's "legacy" as a person, and his legacy shouldn't be the straightforward, simple deification of him like the media is prone to do. Having said that, you can also believe that her tweeting of an article about the rape case 2 hours after he died doesn't really serve any journalistic purpose but rather a "look at me, I'm controversial" purpose, even though she allegedly was a victim of a sexual assault herself. Then you can also believe that while her tweet might not have served any journalistic purpose, she doesn't deserve to be suspended for it.

Also, the word is that she was suspended not because the tweet was controversial, but she posted a screenshot of her Gmail account full of the hate mail she received, complete with email addresses and people's names. She could get the WP in some legal hot water for doing that.
