Kobe Bryant dead

Coach Barnes tried to recruit Bryant when he was at Clemson and he told assistant coaches that he could win a national championship with Bryant according to a column in today's Knoxville News Sentinel.

Very good read.

Ehh, based on how he played as a rookie, I don't think he's carrying anybody to a title his freshman year. Kobe's biggest problem was his decision-making in that he basically always decided the only way was to try to be the hero. In an NCAA tourney, he's going to have one bad game somewhere along the line and shoot them out of it. In the Lakers 3peat, he had so many mediocre to bad games where they won* because Shaq was so good. He wasn't really proven until his 2 finals MVP's, IMO, which came after age 30.

*In the 2000 playoffs alone, they won when he went 7 for 16, 6 for 11 with 5 turnovers, 4 for 9 with 5 turnovers, 6 for 16, 5 for 15, 6 for 13 with 4 turnovers, 1 for 3, 4 for 20, and 8 for 27....so 9 of their 15 wins.

Dude, can I be audacious enough to recommend a book to you? A New Earth was life-changing for me, and since you are at a crossroad (and may be open to it), I think you should try it. I wouldn't have always been open to it, but somebody recommended it to me at the right time. It just really helped me come to understand why people are ugly to each other, which helped me to be better* and also to be more compassionate towards others when they are ugly. Not only am I happier with myself, other people don't really bother me the way they used to.

It's got some hippy-dippy BS in there, some of which I still don't understand, and I've read it 5x. Don't dwell on the stuff that you don't get right away, there will be plenty of material that you can learn important lessons from. It's not really religious at all, but he does use teachings of Jesus and Buddha. I recommend the audiobook. His accent is weird but it makes you pay attention more, and then it becomes easy to read multiple times.

*And to people who see me as so combative here on VN, this is where I get that **** out of me. I'm not like that in real life (anymore). There is basically no social conflict in my real life.

I would second this book as well. Was an excellent read.

You're right. Barnes was so stupid to say that.

In the 02 finals he had a stupid stat line... 27 pts, 6 boards, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block per game. Shooting over 50% from the floor and 55% from behind the line.

Yeah, he had a nice finals that one year, but 179 lb Kerry Kittles was guarding him and the Nets were completely over-matched. Kobe was not good in the playoffs that year, overall. He was 43% from the field and an abysmal true shooting % of .511 (and consider that the finals brought those numbers up). The west was difficult and they won it without Kobe playing well because Shaq was unstoppable.

He wasn't bad against the Kings either.

I just watched a very sad and very beautiful tribute to Kobe Bryant and the victim's of Sunday's crash before the Trailblazers and Lakers. I don't believe I've watched that much NBA pregame all year as I've lost a lot of interest in a league I used to love.

It was hard to hold it together and I shed a tear.

Best site in the world

Awesome site, except for their tracking of what position someone plays. It has some strange %'s on some guys. Unless maybe for some reason they track by defense. Example: Harden has 0% PG, 36% SG, 59% SF, and 5% PF. And 1%, 0%, and 0% his 3 years in OKC.
