I agree i think we will be fine regardless, but it’s silly to say Maurer didn’t flash more talent than JG last year... even as a 160lb true freshman. Maurer was never the same after his concussion/neck injury. Maybe it was injury, maybe it was gunshy after that idk but i would prefer to not lose a QB that proved he can make big plays at the SEC level just yet.
in fairness....JG has made big plays at this level too.

and as big a plays as Maurer did make, he's also the same guy that made the decisions that led to two end zone picks against MSU, and to take that leap, vs. just going to the ground, that got his bell rung. let's not make it out like he's leaps and bounds better in that department....Maurer has all the intangibles you want....and some of the tangibles. not a finished product.

the problem as i see it is simple...we're willing to dismiss Mauer's bone headedness because he's a freshman, which is fair. i did the same thing. Whereas JG is a RS Jr. and should be better...we're not so willing to cut JG a break, even though he's had 4 different OC's, and all the well documented issues at OL and WR, prior this past season....

which is why i think it's just simpler to call our qb situation "unsettled" and move on. we don't know what Maurer is going to do, but i find it hard to believe he's going to transfer before the srping even gets started? i also find it difficult to believe that he wont' get better year over year.

and i find it equally difficulut to believe (but wouldn't be shocked if it came to pass) that JG doesn't improve with multiple years of consistent coaching in the same system, with the same coaches and most of the same personnel.....

and i think HB is about as "ready to go" as any other recent stud freshman QB we've seen hit the scene lately, a la Fields, From, lawrence, nix...among others.

it's february....this QB thing isn't even a thing yet. wait till spring practice and the OW game....it'll be in full tilt by then.

Heave up a floater off your back foot and pray it finds a home? Lol. He did the exact same thing against UAB on the same play and it was a pick.

Difference was that the throw against USC was in the back of the endzone to where only his guy could catch it. Against UAB, it was in the middle of the endzone. I don't mind back foot throw under pressure as long as you put it in a spot where it's only going to be a TD or incomplete.

Hope so. I also believe JP and Chaney has seen enough of JG that they hope Bailey will grab the reins and start.

They way we completely changed our offense to cater it to Maurer mid season tells me that they really wanted him to take the job and keep it. We went from 0 rpos and traditional sets to a majority of rpos and midline reads. We were taking plays directly from Oklahoma games.

You wouldn’t do that for a stop gap QB and one you didn’t think could take the job. I believe and have heard that BMs injury was a lot more bothersome to him than originally thought.

Fighting for JG to lead your team as QB is just a weird hill to die on. It’s like banging the table for mark sanchez to be your QB Bc the jets won some games with him.

Fans can get emotionally over attached to a story or even a fantasy about individual players. The simplest stat taken from 3 years is that JG is 10-15 as a starter when he even had a RS freshman year to prepare. That is sort of a "period" on the whole thing. I have never been over a QB as much as I am JG. I see a reasonably good level of talent on the roster getting wasted year after year by garbage QB play.

Shrout out there throwing some dimes vs uscjr.

Anyone remember why he all but stopped getting looks late in the season?

For all the talk about Mauer being a must keep, IMO I’d much rather see how Shrout could be developed under Chaney.

My guess: we only see what the coaches feel comfortable doing while each QB is in.
They look good, we wonder why we don't see more and it's probably because we don't see all the things they can't do.

What I've always figured but who knows.

Hank take. It was a perfect throw. If that was a highlight of Chryst doing that at Stanford you'd be praising it.

I didn’t even post that as a JG hype. It was more a seeming turning point because we took the lead vs uscjr and didn’t lose another game.

But in the play it’s a great throw with a defender about to light you up, to a big time catch by Jennings where he himself got lit up afterwards but held on. In a raucous stadium, on third and 15 no less, immediately after the refs missed a blatant face mask on Fant.

All in all, it feels like a semi-quasi turning point in the season and maybe of the Pruitt era as a whole.

Lol no i actually watch the play and decide if it was a good throw or play.... not just play to the result. It’s hard to separate the two.

I thought it was a big statement by starting BM at KY.

Yes i mean that’s pretty fair, i don’t think Kentucky is a good football team by any stretch so i would argue what muster did vs uga was the best QB play we got all year. I think people would be lying if they said they didn’t feel the energy he brought to the team that game and even some against bama. Hell most people think we beat bama if Maurer doesn’t leave the game.

There was spark in Maurer's game and he brings great energy. The mistakes he makes I was okay with, he was a true freshman in SEC play after all.

Would also point out Georgia looked like 2 different teams in that game as well. They did score 33 unanswered on us and completely shut down the offense after our 2nd TD drive.

Ftr i think Jg can be semi serviceable but i don’t think he can be that much better if at all next year, after losing Jennings, calloway, and DWA. This would be the year we need a QB to carry our Pass catchers, not the other way around.

that's the play where JG got his wrist broken too.

JG is super frustrating. but as has been said a million times before, he's tough, and just keeps getting back up. i respect the kid.

i'm not certain i want him starting at QB for us anymore... lol. but i do respect him a great deal and he has epitomized "give my all".

My counter, OL & RBs (Gray especially) gonna be carrying the team in 2020. We land Evans and you'll see a 2 or 3 headed monster like Georgia had when Chaney was there. Won't matter whose in there handing off the rock cause the road graders gonna eat!

I still fully expect Bailey to win the starting job outright though and close the door on the entire yo-yo at QB we've seen in JG's time here.
