Jeremy Pruitt, while having some conversations with several guys, has not hired a running backs coach. Jay Graham remains on the list. Montario Hardesty is on the list. And we believe there’s been vetting of a few other coaches as well. One of the big questions that remains is what’s the budget for a running backs coach? How much is Pruitt going to spend for that position? David Johnson was making $450k. Graham makes more than that at Texas A&M and there are some in the SEC like LSU’s Tommie Robinson who make over $600k with multiple titles attached to the contract. No position in the SEC has a wider range of salaries. For example, Robinson makes north of 600K, while new Arkansas running backs coach Jimmy Smith is making $225k. So the decision Pruitt has is who does he want and how much is he willing to spend?
As for other staff movements, things have been quiet on that front. Joe Osovet has been on the road recruiting all week and the current contracts of Rocker and Weinke officially expire on Jan. 31.
Next week is the last week coaches can be on the road before the dead period starts. In terms of other potential staff movement, no one is ruling out possible changes but it feels like if more changes come it would be the result of a guy getting a job somewhere else. But we will see. It remains fluid and ever-changing. There remain open spots on NFL staffs, as well as staffs still filling out around the country with Baylor and others making recent hires.
