Honestly, who cares about the pre snap reads if what the QB does after the snap puts the team in jeopardy? I mean, of the 3 QBs last that played, only 1 three 2 picks sixes deep in their own territory. Only one fumbled into the end zone that was returned 100 yards for a touchdown by the other team.

And as far as the run game, I’d be interested to see the stats for the running game when Guarantano was in there vs the other two. Curious to see if he really did have that impact on the running game...perhaps he did.

And before anybody says “well, Maurer threw into double coverage a lot”......well so the hell did Guarantano, a 4th year player, as opposed to Maurer who had been on campus all of 8 months once the season started. All I know is what I saw, and that’s that Maurer is the better athlete, with better tools and a much higher ceiling, and now a higher floor than the mercurial Guarantano, who will be in his 5th year at Tennessee and who can’t remotely be trusted. Maurer or Shrout (and certainly Bailey) on the other hand can all be coached up and get more familiar with the offense and Chaney’s system and get better. Guarantano just is what he is and that’s just not nearly good enough.
