'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

I think you got it backwards. He was committed until Butch was canned. He didn't sign with GA because he didn't like Butch. As I recall it, he would have come if Butch stayed.

Correct.

Mays and his family had a close relationship with Butch.

He was upset that the University fired him which is why he made that comment, “f*** Tennessee”.

Regardless of how good Mays was, firing Butch was the right thing to do at that time.

I think this is right. He was committed to Butch and good friends with one of Butch’s sons at Knox Catholic. Everyone should recall that the end of the Butch era was pretty vitriolic (probably right up there with the Kiffin exit) and I’m sure that Butch’s children were, unfortunately, not totally insulated from all of that. Cade had a relationship with Butch and his family and he flipped to UGA in the aftermath of that toxic end and during our flailing coaching search. He didn’t give Pruitt a real chance to recruit him after Pruitt was hired, which I think was unfortunate but still understandable. I think that’s the rumored chain of events that seems to ring true.

Regarding Cade transferring to UT, if he wants in and we have a spot, the Vols should add him each and every day and twice on Sundays and let bygones be bygones. I think remembering the full context of his flip to UGA is useful (UGA was a hot program and UT was in total disarray and couldn’t land a marquee head coach for a time and one of his friends was hurting because his dad had gotten canned by UT). People holding grudges because a high school kid said something mean about his/her favorite sports team is beyond dumb.

If I am not mistaken, Cade decommitted at or around the time Butch was fired, then he remained uncommitted, Pruitt was hired, it was felt to be a two horse race between us and Clemson. Pruitt went in home with Fulmer and UGA sort of swooped in at the end and Cade committed to them on ESD or a day or two before. We were in total disarray at the time though, even though Pruitt had been hired for a couple of weeks, he was still splitting time with the Gumps and the most disastrous coaching search in history had just ended.

Cade Mays.

Don't tease me. If something wacky happens and Cade transfers to UT I will quack like a duck. I will. GBO!!!
Your bridge maybe. I honestly had more of a problem with him not allowing Pruitt and Fulmer to visit in home than that stupid song some got so worked up about.

WAY past over it now. If he wants to transfer and play with his brother, I have zero problem with it. If he wants to stay at UGA, best of luck to him except when he plays us.

And now Cade can see for himself that Pruitt is the bomb, Kirby is dumb, and Pittman is in the ozarks where he planned to retire all along. GBFO. He is smart enough to graduate early. He is smart of enough to figure this out.

Come on up, Cade!

I thought Fulmer and Pruitt did go in home, because that's where that absurd story came out that Pruitt had laughably used some choice language and turned off the family.

My memory is not what it used to be but I recall a meeting at the school that didn’t go well. Later, CJP and Fulmer tried to go in home and we’re told no. I prolly have that all screwed up in my head. Need guru confirmation .... 😎

You may be right, that whole time period is a blur, it was rapid fire bad news there for about 3 months and a lot of the time you couldn't digest one thing before you were kicked in the cods again.

As soon as I saw the alert and the pic, I knew you had quoted it and tagged me. That lady is an idiot. I don’t care how bomb-proof a horse might be, that is asking for serious trouble and getting hurt. Now, go get your dentures cleaned, so you can eat your breakfast.

Volquest reader from Tennessee. AP said he will not graduate by Spring.
Beginning of Spring or end of Spring? Semantics matter. As long as he graduates before fall semester he won't have any issues. Of course even if not he could probably get a waiver.

Someone asked: Is he set to graduate in May?
AP replied: no, just in his second year

Sounds like he's assuming based on year then. He may be right, but it's very possible he is set to graduate in May. And there have been multiple people suggest he is over the past few months.

AP literally talks to the family at least weekly, if not more. He would know. He’s not just basing it off of the fact that he’s been at UGA for 2 years. Who else has suggested it over the past few months? This thread got revived yesterday for the first time since Jan. 2018

These were from April in the Cooper thread. This rumor has been mentioned several other times by various people about him graduating in May and transferring here.
Interesting as much as hated on him for going to UGA it sounds like he had his school priorities in line to be set to graduate in May of his Jr yr. benefits of early enrolling I guess
from a poster on VQ

"I’ve heard something similar. Cade will graduate next May and could transfer here to play with brother. Absolutely not set in stone but the idea has been thrown around. "
