Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

My Arkansas friend said Chad Morris supposedly had a huge graphic of he and Deshaun Watson in Clemson gear up in the entrance to the Arky football complex. He didnt move his family to Fayetteville. There was 0 buy in from players because it appeared their HC had one foot out the door from day 1.
Sounds like kiffin.

We know dooley ain't elite, but in their situation, he's probably the smart hire.
actually, i agree. they would be doing what we SHOULD HAVE done way back when, by hiring Kippy, and if nothing else, weather the storm to see what happens, or what else shakes out....especially with the ESD, you just don't have time to fire and hire a guy and still recruit. you can set things back at a program like mizzou, ark or ole miss at least a couple years in recruiting.....if not handled right. year zero is a real thing now, and not just at TN. lol.

Well that’s not good.

Army wearing 1st Cavalry Division uniforms for the Army-Navy game next weekend. This rivalry is a great example of why college football is the best sport on Earth.

Army to honor 1st Cavalry Division with new unis against rival Navy

That's nice.

Go Navy!!!!

Mizzou did Barry Odom wrong. Ole Miss did Matt Luke wrong. Arkansas did Chad Morris wrong (although man his team sucked).

I don’t agree with any of those decisions. But most surprised with Mizzou.

The only SEC coach I would have fired this year may have been Derek Mason. But he had equity from the bowls, three wins against Tennessee, and an AD who doesn’t want to spend the buyout so I get it.
I agree except for Morris. Giving him another year was most likely delaying the inevitable. Odom and Luke were different, IMO. Both took over teams with baggage from the NCAA. Both were trying to weather the storm to get out from under that. Heck, Mizzou still had a bowl ban in place. Both programs screwed up, IMO. I think Luke probably would still be the coach had one of his players not pulled his stupid stunt. Even if they had lost in overtime, I think he would have been retained. The dog pee incident was the proverbial straw IMO.

I think he was just letting his son finish high school in TX. He's a 4* QB and had just won a state championship at his high school in TX when his dad was hired at Arkansas. He probably didnt want to transfer schools.

could you imagine losing your seven figure job that you love because of "the dog pee incident?'

Agreed on all accounts, however, new, young coaches are usually able to recruit really well once they start winning. We haven’t been able to do that to this point.

I don’t know. We might be following the Barnes tactic of laying a foundation of hard work with “good guys” but that only worked for Barnes because he won at an extremely high level a year early. Also think it’s easier to be picky on a basketball roster.

I say all this to say I don’t think football recruiting has been bad - it’s been average for us historically as a program and I think statistically a little bit better than what Dooley or Butch did here (minus Butch’s one great class.)

I don’t know. I’ve said this before but I thought Pruitt would recruit like Kiffin did here. That style had it’s obvious drawbacks but we were getting elite talent.
Look past initial class rankings at attrition and who actually became contributors and I think Pruitt's classes will grade out fairly well in comparison.

FUN FACT FOR THE DAY:

Screen actor Logan Marshal-Green is a Tennessee Vol. He did his undergrad at UT while writing for the Daily Beacon and then moving on to NYU for grad school. You may know him best from his role as the jerk in Prometheus.

If you are a cinephile I suggest watching him in the lead roles of the creepy film The Invitation and sci fi thriller Upgrade where he is implanted with body controlling AI.

He named his recent first born son Tennessee.

agree with this.
i'd like to fine a way to get matt luke on our staff....i like that guy a lot..... not sure how good of a head coach he really is, but if he was going to be successful at Ole Miss, it would take more time than he was given, for sure.

My hatred for "Last Christmas" has ebbed dramatically now that I associate the song with Emilia Clarke. I've seen enough previews for that movie that whenever I hear it, I think of her. And that's very much not a bad thing.
I literally have no idea what movie that is, but she is not difficult to behold

I believe that was the case, but apparently it didn't sit well with the grey headed booster clan.

Not even sure if it's out yet, but the title is "Last Christmas", and every time I see a preview, the song plays. I've become Pavlov's dog. Every time I hear the song now, I picture her.
