Vandy board

88 on Vandy pushes JJ's right shoulder, making him change course as he's standing up and he then steps on the Vandy player's head.

There was a scuffle on the sideline no doubt, but since the Vandy player is a "Harvard graduate" and is currently at a well-thought-of academic institution... there is no way he would have been doing something like kicking JJ in the business like we saw Rudolph doing.

Guys, he's a Harvard grad, we should be thanking him for gracing the ignorant and backwards Southland with his presence.

If you want some real entertainment go over to Bama boards. I know everyone makes fun of VN rants, but if Bama ever falls off the winning wagon, Tuscaloosa will have a nuclear melt. They lost two games...I think they need a "Tennessee Black Cloud" humbling...
Finebaum should be entertaining today. The only real reason to ever listen is when it is a veritable festive deluge of opportunity for Schadenfreude. Today should be particularly satisfying.

I want to throw this out there too . Has always bugged me and I feel compelled to point it out whenever “they” or anybody else for that matter start spewing that “Ivy League / Harvard of the South “ crap. VU is an excellent school . VU is the most prestigious school in this state . VU however is NOT Ivy League caliber . I would say that VU is not Duke caliber .VU is not Stanford caliber . Hell for that matter you could make an argument that there are some GASP.... public state universities that are on par with VU. Michigan and UVA come to mind .

Good job at spewing misinformation. Vanderbilt is #15 in US News and World Report College Rankings for 2020. It is ranked above one Ivy League School and is near Duke and Northwestern. Stanford at #4 is ranked higher than most of the Ivy League. There are no state schools ranked above Vanderbilt. No one knows exactly where it came from, but the century old term Harvard of the South did not originate from Vanderbilt. Rice, Tulane and Duke have also been called The Harvard of the South.

I never understood how they could be proud of their motto, "Anchor Down." An anchor sinks to the bottom and keeps you from moving.

They should adopt a new motto that better fits their school, since their only tie to anything resembling the navy is their founder, who was basically a terrible human being. I suggest "Pinkies Up"

I think it is in reference to the idea that some ships anchor in battle to hold their spots.

Ships in battle absolutely have never anchored themselves in a spot. That would have been suicide as the most dangerous thing for a ship in battle to lose is mobility.

And look at you... going from complaining about misinformation to peddling it.

I had a textbook broken hand misdiagnosed by a Vanderbilt Professor of Internal Medicine, and once had to explain to a Vanderbilt intern at my work where the back of the copier was. I’ve also caught a Vanderbilt graduate falsifying medical records. I’ve rubbed shoulders with Vanderbilt graduates for 17 years, and I could go on and on...

If Vanderbilt really is ranked #15 in the US, that report is not credible

The best kind of trolling is undeniable truth. Just point out they're not the character program they pretend to be. Someone will try to defend the statement, then post your link. Not sure how bringing truth to an argument would get you banned.

Well...this is the age of alternate facts which makes the truth irrelevant. So whatever is undeniable is shunted into the ditch of its false because I said so realm. The Kellyanne Conway effect is what I call it. But now it's the Vanderblues.

Right. Then they make matters worse, by "fouling" that anchor with a tangle of chain, which is never a good nautical situation. Having said that, the fouled anchor is a symbol for problem-solving chief petty officers ... but not for commodores.

In the 1300's perhaps. Ever since the wide adoption of sails, maneuver has been key to naval combat. One only has to look at Trafalgar, Jutland, Midway, or the Battle of the Philippine Sea to see that movement is the name of the game. Leave it to Vandy to adopt a motto that gets you sent to the bottom by anything put in the water for the last millennium.

I never said that motto was logical...

Again, I never said it made sense. That explanation was given to me by a VU booster.

Makes sense, I guess, that a school whose namesake was never an actual ship captain has a comically bad nautical motto.

This is almost exactly like if Stanford made their motto "Axes Up!"

I think the one situation in which it probably made sense was shore bombardment inbthe age of sail (or pre aircraft at any rate). One you "found the range" of an onshore fortress, and provided that you were outside the maximum range of their guns, anchoring made a lot of sense as you would not have to adjust the elevation of your guns die to drift. Just hammer as fast as your loaders can load. But once again, that is not ship to ship combat

Eh, you would still have an issue of the aft drifting, making the entire line-of-fire off. It's easier to reposition while under way and you're also not a sitting duck for shore batteries.

I live in Middle TN. I go to VU doctors/specialists and get excellent care. My internist is also a Professor of Internal Medicene. When I broke my finger, my last internist sent me to an Orthopedist.

the whole dropping anchors on ships in battle is a real thing. Bomb Ketches and Mortar Brigs used bow and stern anchors because they needed to be stationary to fire mortars. So the term is valid.and in that context it actually makes perfect sense in the usage. We can make fun of Vandy for a lot of things but to think they'd have a school motto that didn't make sense is silly. don't make them feel good because we cant google. Took me like 30 seconds to find that.
