'20 TN ATH Reggie Grimes (Oklahoma commit)

Recruiting sites

Reggie Grimes:
24 tackles on the year in 6A Tennessee Football, just now playing DE because he was busy playing RB at a Lower tier school, still has no true position on the field = Top 50 player, borderline 5 star and number 4 DE in the country.

Harrison Bailey
Plays in Georgia 7A and plays national powerhouses early in the year. 4th in Georgia’s all time career passing yardage records only behind Deshaun Watson, Jake Fromm and Trevor Lawrence (all while missing 10 games of his career) = mid level 4 star, barely top 10 pocket passer and dropping every rankings update.

What is the nonsense

Watched him at Mt Juliet and was not impressed..Then I read how great he is from all the experts after he transferred..IMHO Okla will discover he is not what they think he is.........

OU knows they’re taking a chance. Probably feel like they can beat the Jane out of him and be left with just the Tarzan...

Reggie Grimes II - Hudl

Vols offered.

It’s pretty clear that everyone passed (or slow played to see if there was an open spot on signing day), OU gave him a commitable offer, so he grabbed it. Good for him. But we can move on. Pruitt knows how to evaluate talent and he’ll get what he needs. As I’ve said before, this kid is a fantastic athlete. He’s not a great football player. Chris Donald 2.0.

LOL Mt. Juliet is not a lower tier school...LOL

I heard the Ravenwood head coach on the radio this morning. Several players were mentioned to have 6 or more tackles against Houston but not Grimes. Then they said Grimes is playing more RB, and is not full time on defense anymore. I just thought that was odd. I guess it would not be surprising to see him as a TE in college but I'm not sure how much evidence there is he's a good receiver.

You could find a kid with more than 24 tackles on every high school team in America. Solid pass. Idk how the ranking is so high.

OU can afford to. Can’t afford to miss on defensive prospects in this conference. To be fair South Carolina was ready to take him.

But there’s some perspective for you... and he’s a Bama legacy. This kid reminds me very much of Chris Donald. Hyped TN kid based on physical measurements (and his daddy rubbing elbows with recruiting service folks), but will be an average football player in college at best. Doesn’t have “it”.

Reggie Grimes down a bit in the Rivals100 but he's still in the top 75 players in the country. As an exceptional athlete with a very high ceiling, he's a very tough player to rank because his production on the field hasn't caught up with where he could be in the future. Ranking guys like him too low is how you get burned if and when they blossom at the next level, but there have been plenty of times where we have ranked guys with not enough production too high as well. He has helped his team to the state championship game in Tennessee and will be playing in the Under Armour All-America Game as well, so we still have a few more chances to see him before making a final call.

Under players ranked too high in Rivals 250 update. Trust Pruitt!

Wait so hes a good athlete but sucks at football but you don't want to drop him for fear of looking dumb should he blossom?

Way to stick by your evaluation, clown.

This is where I struggle. With Wanya the knock was that he didn't perform to an "elite" level in one game against a top team in the state. By all measures he played very well in the game but did not dominate the way that they expected of him. This was the reason why he dropped in the rankings vs. becoming a 5 star. The knock on HB is that supposedly they hadn't seen it on the field from him enough until this year in of which he still continues to dominate.

Yet there's kids like this that absolutely vanish in games against lesser competition (24 tackles over 14 games vanish) yet they hold them there because their "ceiling" is supposedly so high.

I just don't get it. If you're going to continually rate guys at least be consistent in the way you do it.

This kid reminds me of Kongbo under Butch...obvious great athlete, but no production...

Maybe with the right coaching and development, like Pruitt did with Kongbo, the kid will reach that potential....we shall see.

Not that they have called a lot of defensive players names in the state title games, but I have not heard Grimes name since they detailed players to watch on the lead in. Tee has had a few impressive runs but not going to gain a star on his first half production. According to a roster I got on the internet Grimes is number 14.

Looks like East Tennessee is going to win classes 3,4,5, and 6.... Alcoa, Elizabethton, Knox Central, and Maryville respectively.....
