As a subscriber if I could advise David Ubben (hope he reads this) it would be to pattern his work like John Glennon of the Titans and not on how he is trending, which is Joe Rexrode. Glennon speaks from fact, good analysis and illustration. He digs below the surface and is fair, yet truthful with the good and bad. He doesn't sugarcoat, but he doesn't get snarky either. He is consistent and respectful. Once David started running with the local media the tone clearly changed. I watch the Sports Source occasionally just to see how they are treating the program, not because they actually know anything worthwhile. I saw how he enjoyed fitting in with the bros. Personally, I wanted the guy assigned to the Vols from The Athletic to be very professional and have a national image. That's not it.

It's like believing CJP will be a Vol NC HC one day. I can see that happening now. Can David? Or is he so tainted he will continue the snark and negative emphasis stories and Twitter comments? If he can see an NC with CJP one day, write with that anticipation as a journey to the promise land. Example: why nail Nigel's hide to the wall over his past? He's a 21 year old kid playing football, not a professional athlete making millions. What good does it do him, the team, the fan base or even David to go on the attack? A lot of the article was good, but the bad associated with it cancelled it out. Why say on here that if we disagree with his negative stories approach we are in danger of being in the "outrage groupthink" gang? How was that comment going to gain him and The Athletic more subscribers? Just take the advice from the posters since he is soliciting their business, thank the givers for their input, and move on. At some point, stop digging the hole deeper and change the approach.

Yep

Everyone is entitled to pay for the content they want to consume. Posters disagree with some of his takes and are exercising their right to state their opinion and not purchase.

Most of the objection is due to pot shot tweets, not necessarily the articles themselves.

His product is to be sold to Tennessee fans. Recycling narratives of despair is not the best business model.

Confirmation bias is real, and for better or worse, fans want to be sold on hope in the program not signs of continuing to languish at the bottom
Spot on. Apparently, @David Ubben doesnt know how to read his consumer base that well. Have to be able to read context and tone of tweets and stories. We already have enough gloom and doom from other media outlets. Presenting a fact based, unbiased journalism product while being cognizant of themes, context, and tones is the way to the heart of the Tennessee faithful.

@David Ubben

This f’in guy . . . It’s hard to have a bad take on the Egg Bowl finish but he sure found it.

That loser is so vividly eaten up with SEC envy. Any even ordinary person would be absolutely humiliated to display their foul envy the way Thamel does, but he thinks himself "cool."72230808-9AC9-4706-9DCE-C332B8B813AB.jpeg

Haha, always click the Sports Source for just a moment to see if they have a special VFL guest. Rare but worth checking.

1st time I saw Ubben chuckling it up for one of Pennington's snide, condescending of the fans, comments, just rolled my eyes and moved on.

Hunting for trash? Warrior didn't want to answer a couple questions. I was curious to why. His answer was because it was in the past. That's fine, and actually illustrates some of his personality. I wrote about how he's a completely different player this year. It's fairly obvious that Warrior was not an outstanding player early in his career. It's my job to ask about why. It's his right to not answer the question. I tried to explain why we've seen such a dramatic shift this season.

This is what I wrote about Warrior off that interaction.

Don’t think it is your job to ask a kid why he sucked when he he was a sophomore.

It’s a little concerning that we aren’t in on more 4 and 5 star players. Yet freaking mediocre AU gonna get another top DL tomorrow. Really hope Pruitt closes strong and knocks the class outta the park next year

What is targeting?...
Well, when its against the other team, it's non existent like when Palmer was was hit head to head last week. And when it is a against us like when saban trotted out jeudy with a concussion and jeudy lowered his helmet into Toot and Henry's shoulder pad made contact, it's a thing used to make sure that we have to go both halfs without both of our inside linebackers.

I have always liked Chris Peterson. Watching this game..whew Eason sucks..he has already overshot wide open, five yards behind the defense WRs 3 times..

We know why. GA State and BYU blew apart a great season and made it a “par” season. It’s time that we show we are taking the next step forward. We could have done it, but did not. Maybe next year

No doubt. Sets us back another year tho. Need to really kill it in 2021. Need to win the lower 8 next season and knock off at least one of the big 4 on the schedule
