As a subscriber if I could advise David Ubben (hope he reads this) it would be to pattern his work like John Glennon of the Titans and not on how he is trending, which is Joe Rexrode. Glennon speaks from fact, good analysis and illustration. He digs below the surface and is fair, yet truthful with the good and bad. He doesn't sugarcoat, but he doesn't get snarky either. He is consistent and respectful. Once David started running with the local media the tone clearly changed. I watch the Sports Source occasionally just to see how they are treating the program, not because they actually know anything worthwhile. I saw how he enjoyed fitting in with the bros. Personally, I wanted the guy assigned to the Vols from The Athletic to be very professional and have a national image. That's not it.
It's like believing CJP will be a Vol NC HC one day. I can see that happening now. Can David? Or is he so tainted he will continue the snark and negative emphasis stories and Twitter comments? If he can see an NC with CJP one day, write with that anticipation as a journey to the promise land. Example: why nail Nigel's hide to the wall over his past? He's a 21 year old kid playing football, not a professional athlete making millions. What good does it do him, the team, the fan base or even David to go on the attack? A lot of the article was good, but the bad associated with it cancelled it out. Why say on here that if we disagree with his negative stories approach we are in danger of being in the "outrage groupthink" gang? How was that comment going to gain him and The Athletic more subscribers? Just take the advice from the posters since he is soliciting their business, thank the givers for their input, and move on. At some point, stop digging the hole deeper and change the approach.
