There also seems to be a lot of confusion regarding how SEC teams are placed in the group of six bowl games after the Citrus bowl selects its team. And all of the projections are not anything more than articles filled with guesses to fill out websites.I think a lot of people here are also confused on how the bowl payouts work in the SEC, especially with regard to the conference’s revenue-sharing.
The teams don’t keep the entirety of that bowl payout, how much they actually keep goes as follows (according to the information the SEC offices shared before the season, from the link below):
SEC BOWL REVENUE DISTRIBUTION:
(A) For bowl games providing receipts which result in a balance of less than $1,500,000, the participating institution shall retain $1,050,000, plus a travel allowance as determined by the SEC Executive Committee. The remainder shall be remitted to the Commissioner and shall be divided into 15 equal shares with one share to the Conference and one share to each member institution.
(B) For bowl games providing receipts which result in a balance between $1,500,000 and $3,999,999, the participating institution shall retain $1,325,000, plus a travel allowance as determined by the SEC Executive Committee. The remainder shall be remitted to the Commissioner and shall be divided into 15 equal shares, with one share to the Conference and one share to each member institution.
(C) For bowl games providing receipts which result in a balance between $4,000,000 and $5,999,999, the participating institution shall retain $1,525,000, plus a travel allowance as determined by the SEC Executive Committee. The remainder shall be remitted to the Commissioner and shall be divided into 15 equal shares, with one share to the Conference and one share to each member institution.
(D) For bowl games providing receipts which result in a balance of $6,000,000 or more and all College Football Playoff games, the participating institution shall receive $2,050,000 ($2,050,000 if the SEC team is a participant in the College Football Playoff semi-finals game; an additional $2,150,000 if the SEC team is also a participant in the College Football Playoff championship game, which determines the National Champion), plus a travel allowance as determined by the SEC Executive Committee. Institutions participating in a College Football Playoff game may also request additional travel expenses, which may be granted to such institution at the Commissioner’s discretion. The remainder shall be remitted to the Commissioner and shall be divided into 15 equal shares, with one share to the Conference and one share to each member institution.
(E) Bowl Revenue Protection Insurance shall be deducted prior to Conference distribution.
(F) The cost of unused tickets up to the contractually guaranteed ticket purchase number shall be deducted prior to Conference distribution., except as provided in subsection (g) below.
(G) For bowl games in which a member institution participates as an “alternate” (e.g., 5-7 team) under NCAA Postseason Bowl Game requirements, the participating institution shall retain all revenue distributed by the bowl. The participating institution shall not re- ceive a base retainage or travel allowance as set forth in subsections (a) through (d) above. The participating institution shall also be fully responsible for the contractually guaranteed ticket purchase number and any other expenses associated with participation in the bowl.

The Outback is coming from LSU and UGA both making the CFP, Florida going to the Cotton, Bama going to the Orange sending Auburn to the Citrus which would leave Tennessee as 1A for the Outback bowl.No news yet. He (brother)left a vm but nothing as of 10 min ago.
Again, I don’t have any inside knowledge of UT admin, etc. but don’t think Music City Bowl will be in play unless we lose Sat. to Vandy. I’m surprise that some suggest Outback Bowl since we will be 7-5.
The Gator Bowl definitely wants the Vols.

Every bowl in that 2nd tier is dying to get Tennessee, especially the Liberty Bowl. However the Liberty bowl might not get an SEC team at all, they need to first hope State wins on Thursday night which my money is on Ole Miss.
Well, Tennessee needs to take care of business Saturday first. I think the worst Tennessee will do is the Gator and the best they can do is the Outback. So essentially if the SEC doesn't get 2 teams in the playoffs, then Tennessee will possibly fall to the Gator. If the SEC gets 2 teams in, the Citrus will take Auburn and the Outback will take UT.Still surprises me that UT can end up @ the Outback w/ a 7-5 record. I will be there regardless if the Outback or Gator Bowl. I still think we are Gator Bowl bound as long as LSU beats UGA.
yes - hopefully Fulmer turns down the MCB since they send out the 1st invite of the 2nd tier bowls -- I think CJP and the players want a warm weather bowlStill surprises me that UT can end up @ the Outback w/ a 7-5 record. no other SEC school would travel there and worse the opp is ACC -- he said its more about ticket sales than hotels etc
In that case he would be wrong, the majority of these bowl games are corporate ticket sales. The university allotments aren't that much, maybe 8K tickets
Rohan Davies and Matty Mauck. Those names will haunt me forever. Mauck is the primary haunt...if only Rohan was a bit tougher.Yeah, me too! My wife and I were at the UT/LSU SEC championship game. We knocked out their QB, RB and were up @ halftime only to self destruct to a Saban coached team.
Miami had a ton of NFL players on their roster but still would’ve loved a shot to play against them in Pasadena.
KY is rumored to the MCB instead of Tax Slayer because they were there last year. Would make sense to send us to TSB and them to MCB.Nobody knows. My previous comments are based on someone w/in the Gator Bowl organization stating UT is there team. My brother lives outside Jax and season tix holder for Jaguars. The info May be true or incorrect-don’t know. But we will buy ours now and sell them to whomever if Vols don’t go. I prefer Gator Bowl over Music City. Outback was a blast on 2007!
Point of my post is that the Gator Bowl had KY last year so they won't go again this year. MCB is pushing hard for KY. I think you guys down south will get to see the Vols play end of December! We are either Gator Bowl bound or possibly Outback. Outback May take us if two SEC schools make playoffs. All I know is that the Gator Bowl is pushing hard for UT.
