'20 TN DE Jay Hardy (Auburn commit)

Edit: Added a line item.

Here are some famous alumni from McCallie:
  • Volsfan-TX - VolNation member
  • Ted Turner '56 - CNN Founder
  • Howard Baker '43 - Former Senate Majority Leader, White House Chief of Staff, and Ambassador to Japan
  • Jon Meacham '87 - Editor of Newsweek and best-selling author
  • Bill Brock '49 - Former Senator and Secretary of Labor
  • James Killian '21 - Former President of MIT
  • Ralph McGill '17 - Pulitzer Prize winning editor of the Atlanta Constitution
  • Zach Wamp '76 - Current member of the House of Representatives
  • Carroll Campbell '58 - Former Governor of South Carolina
  • John M. Belk '39 - President of Belk Department Stores Inc.
  • Olin Mills II '48 - Chairman of the Board, Olan Mills Inc.

Yes, McCallie does give Financial Aid to students. It is a private Institution. Tuition at McCallie is high and in most cases higher than College Tuition. Boarding there can easily cost more than 25k+. Day students 17k+. Very competitive to get into. Their endowment is well over 100 million.

Chattanooga has a mixed bag of fans. Major Influences are very diverse in the area Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee fans and Ivy league. Chattanooga will always have a diverse fan base. HS Grad rates to College are 95%+. Focused more on Academics vs Athletics but with one you get the other.

It would be interesting to see how many kids from McCallie end up at Tennessee or an SEC School. My guess, not that many. We had one QB that Cut recruited but ended up being a crash and burn because of coaching changes ended up at UTC and did make it to the pros.

Dude, just stop with all the faux “I’m an insider bag man” crap. How many more times you gonna spew this crap and be wrong (again) before everybody on here just tell you yo stfu? Go away dude.
I get you've always had strong opinions but you usually will concede them when there are facts that prove the opposite.

You will have read the OB79 reply before mine and I'll expand. Not only was he taken to the game and on the field by AV but also introduced to our coaches.

Yes, VN has always had "fake insiders" but fakes can't introduce to their source, especially when that source is head coach. It sucks that kids mislead the staff but it happens often all over CFB.
Only way AV isn't legit is if you demand an insider know more than the coaches.
That's the reality

That's the reality
or the prospect....as it appears to be the case here.

I'm torn as to whether or not we should even continue to pursue this kid but I'm sure we will. It appears to be a low character move on his part unless there's something I'm missing. I would prefer to sign kids that want to be here.
the emotional reaction is to say Hell NO.

but you step back...we've put well over a year and a half in to this kid. he was in the plan. i'm sure we have other guys we've recruited at the position, but i think it's a tad naive to say that we weren't pretty much counting on Hardy to be in this class.

so, there's an opportunity cost associated sticking with that emotional reaction. there's also one with continuing to pursue him knowing he's committed somewhere else....we already missed.....missing again on a flip attempt at some point becomes a waste of resources.

and we need to fill that spot. with him or others......so there's a line we'll get to where it gets counter productive. where is that line? i don't know. it's possible we've already passed it. the staff will have to make that judgment.

We'll always keep pursuing the talent and deep down, I know that's the right thing to do. But yeah, I'm really irked because of the momentum factor.

Everyone was feeling good with the wins and the 3 kids last week. Hardy could have delayed his announcement *if he wasn't sure AND we really do still have a shot. Would've been a minor setback but nowhere near the same.
But as is, it was a more a left hook out if nowhere and petty or not, right or wrong, I don't care for the part where he didn't even speak with the staff or give them an opportunity.

We need to really need to either Maurer or H.B. to be really good and kead us to at least 8 regular season wins in order to kickstart recruiting. Otherwise were goinig to be stuck as a perpetual 6-7 win team.

Atlanta Vol if you happen to know the location of Auburns Cabin please fly one of your planes over it, drop some Napalm, and burn that MF down. GBO🍊🏈🏀

Can we contract that out to Harvey Updyke? It would be a much more productive use of his time than poisoning trees.

Maybe. But it doesn’t seem to be happening to our rivals, and that’s the problem.

Ask Bama and UGA about Arik Gilbert committing to LSU.

After sleeping on this over night, I hope the kid sticks with Auburn. I will also point out that East Tennessee is a recruiting "stronghold" for us. This is what happened last time someone crossed Phil on an in-state kid like this:

Can't get the link to work, but google Albert Means.

I agree, it feels to me like getting sucker punched by a friend. When trust turns to betrayal it hurts something awful.

Yikes! That's awful. I remember the whole scandal with Fulmer and AL but didn't know people died. I pray that doesn't happen again.
Convicted Bama booster found dead at his home

I can also proudly say that out of all the horrible things I have done in my life that I have never in my life crawfished on a deal when a better one was offered after giving my word. I stayed with my ex-wife through 12 years of humiliating cheating because I took my vows seriously. I had that drilled into me from birth.
Yeah.... I'm not touching that one with a 10-foot pole

Hear the Bagman Rodney Garner ( The gift that keeps on giving. Thanks Phil for not getting the money to keep him years ago) swept down and got another in our backyard.

I agree about recruiting kids that want to be here.Something just dont add up here though. Hes a legacy recruit that has visited multiple times. He takes one visit to Au and verbal$

I doubt the coaches give up or back off here. But Hardy really jobbed the other commits, who considered him a close friend. Not sure how that dynamic will play out, on either side. It was such a tight group-- and such a crappy thing to do. If he'd just given people a head's up, it could have played out differently. But when you tell people who trust you one thing, go dark, betray them, then refuse to take their calls-- it's a much harder path back.

Kid just made a life changing sum of money for his family who prob didn’t have much. Say we’re talking a difference of 25k or more.. what would u have done in his shoes?
You realize he goes to an elite, private, all-boys school, right? I don’t think anything for him was a “life changing sum of money”. Ain’t NOTHING cheap about McCallie, believe me.

That’s sad to hear

I agree this wouldn’t be the best look for the kid. I just wonder if anybody saying that he’s lied to the in state guys have actually spoken to any of those in state players to get their reaction? Could’ve already been posted and I missed it.
