BTO’s UNC-Asheville Postgame Report

Maybe you don’t understand “first game of the season” and Tennessee “needs these players” and they need them to get game minutes because they will be needed and used.

Those walk on’s “want” minutes......they don’t need them.

Hey I’m fine with them getting minutes, especially later in the season in a game that is basically over.

However if coach Barnes needs to play his guys......and doesn’t give a couple walk on’s a couple minutes.......tough.

He is the coach and I assure you he knows more than you do. Go coach some pee wee team and make sure everyone gets to play.
Exactly, and it's a whole week or close till the next game. In game minutes for all these players are huge. The next game will be on a different level and the coaching staff needs film.

My comment on which you replied back to had NOTHING to do with Kent.

You asked why 2 walk on’s didn’t get to play and I gave you reasons.

Then you want to come back at me.....like you know more than the coach.......by all means keep thinking that way.

I'm not surprised that you're struggling with the connection. If Kent was just playing mop up minutes, why weren't the walk-ons mopping up as well?

No freaking way. I was there. Not even close to that.
The entire crowd would have not quite filled the lower bowl.
I’d say a decent crowd for a very blah opponent.
The student section was encouraging. It was full long before the tip.

They’ve never gone by “actual” it’s always been seats sold

Positives:
-Fulk, lots of energy and didn’t get into foul trouble.

Negatives:

-This was just not a very good opponent. Last years team would have won by 50. Yes, I know who and what we lost. Yes, I know it takes time, but this roster looks really mediocre in numerous areas.

Your positive on Fulk brings up a good point I missed, as a team we didn’t foul much and that’s going to be huge with only 10 available scholarships players, right now 9 with Pember out.

Last years team only won by 22 against a crappy Louisiana team, we won by 15 against UNC-A and it was 25 before a spurt over the last 2 minutes.

They digitally scan the very ticket so no reason they should lie about tickets sold versus attendance.

That's a little dramatic. I'm sure every stadium/arena measures attendance by tickets sold as opposed to butts-in-seats. Or are you saying they are lying about how many tickets were sold?

We need Pember to get healthy, but we got a week until the next game so he has some time. He has the size and athleticism that we need on the front line. Maybe Plavsic gets eligible as well.

Gaines looks like he is the steal of this class and is going to get his share of minutes. I would like to see James be more aggressive on the offensive side of the ball. We have a lot of young intriguing prospects and I fully expect some bumps along the way. We need a consistent 3rd scoring option. Will it be Pons?

Where did I say say that?
And, how is that dramatic?
The only thing dramatic is your response to a perfectly rational and factual post.

I just think it's a little dramatic to say UT is lying about the attendance. They're just reporting the number of tickets sold like every other school does.

Turner has to be selfish at this point. There is no alternative. Just not enough guys out there that can score.
He has to give those guys a chance by running the offense. He came down about 5 times and didn't make one pass. He can take those shots he attempted without making a pass when the shot clock is running out. Barnes even said he needs to pass the ball. His selfishness is going to hurt the development of the other guys (especially JJJ). Turner and Bowden are not going to be able to carry this team, our success is going to be determined by the other guys.

I expect Josiah to be a lot better in the coming weeks once he gets a feel for the guys. Some of his turnovers have been miscommunications with Bowden and Turner. Also, I don't think he has had enough time actually running the plays to find were openings are and how his game fits. One thing he does do that a lot of people miss because the stat is not kept is he gets a lot of hockey assist (pass leading to assist).

Tennessee needs to hang their hat on being the best defensive team in the SEC and stay even on the backboards this season.

Pons had a terrific game last night and he could be the team's third scoring option behind Bowden and Turner with Fulkerson or Jalen Johnson being the 4th option on certain
nights.

Gaines and ORN look like they will be solid contributors.

Nice win to start the season.
