Do we have a five way quarterback controversy brewing next year?

Are we sooooooooooooo bored we are discussing NEXT year. Just when I thot it couldn't get any dumber!!!

The difference between high school and college is huge. Georgia High School is top notch but it is not the SEC. Bailey looks good, but let’s see him at the college level before making any decisions.

Maurer gave us the spark we needed and got this team going with his ability to actually hit his targets. He has had some “freshman mistakes” that we all forgave him of because the alternative at the time was JG. Even the interception thrown from the red zone was forgiven.
Even though JT shared time against SC I think he had fewer mistakes and was on target. No interceptions. I don’t see why some on here aren’t giving him more credit.

Hadn’t played enough. Tho that doesn’t stop narratives from being formed.

It is doubtful that 4 or 5 guys will be in comp for the same position for very long, one or more will transfer. The best situation would be for Bailey to Red Shirt, so when he does start, he's in a really good position. There is a hell of a difference between being a few months out of HS and training for a full year-injury rates lower, skill set higher etc. But with this much talent, we will have No excuse not to have a Great QB starting.

JT did look good. But I’d rather believe he just looked better than expected simply because he only threw 11 passes total.

As we are currently recruiting, for next year, it is on some current interest. When do you suggest we discuss current recruiting?

If Butch Jones is hired by Rutgers I think JG follows him to Rutgers and it will be a 4 quarterback competition this coming spring and summer.

I think Kasim Hill would be the starter this year if he could. I think he has a good chance next year.
. Yeah who knows? He may have the skills and determination to do it. At any rate we should not have a liability at Qb next year like we did the first few games of this season.

Do we know of any schools that are going full press to flip Bailey?
Bailey will be recruited by other teams until he sign his LOI. He is listed as a HARD COMMIT by 247 sports to the Vols.
But there have been a few that worried about LSU. LSU already has a commitment from Max Johnson. Johnson is the #11 pro style QB for 2020 and second in Georgia only behind Bailey. Johnson is the son of former NFL QB Brad Johnson. The 6'4" 214lb QB has been committed to LSU for almost a year and is solid in his commitment to the Tigers.

Bailey will come to UT because...Jim Chaney.

I haven't followed his recruitment as close as a lot of others here.

TBH, I'm more concerned about other positions right now. If he flipped, it could change the calculation for any or all of the other 4. I'm personally comfortable with the possibility that Maurer or Shrout become the QB of the future and landing someone else next year or the next that can grow into the starter after that.

IMO, the most immediate need is DL and RB. I think they could easily get behind the curve on WR's if they don't find another good one in this cycle.

I think Gibbs, Johnson and Palmer are going to surprise some people next year. We may not have the strength at the point of attack we do this year but we should improve on speed and rote running abilities. Thoughts?

Right. Just saying there are going to be SOOOO many people calling him a bust if he doesn’t set the world on fire when the truth is he may just not live up to their personal expectations.
Big if there hotshot. Sounds like you’re hoping he fails to live up to the hype so you can say “told you so” on a message board. Pretty silly IMO.

I just don't know. Means, Keyton, and Tillman may develop too. There aren't many Jennings in all of football.

Palmer is probably "the guy" at this point but Gibbs is kind of intriguing too.

We also don't know who might show up in the transfer portal.

True. I’ve just heard that Gibbs is extremely fast and quick in his change of direction. Johnson seemed like a hard guy to bring down vs Florida and Palmer is no joke either imo.

Idk what gives you that opinion. I just don’t expect him to come in a take the job. I expect the reasonable. He’ll be a freshman competing against a very talented qb room with experience.

And just so you know..... I’m not the “I told you so” guy anyway. I’ve had many opportunities on this board to say that and have passed every time. People know my opinions and when I’m right there’s no need to remind anyone. When I end up being wrong I’ll own it.
