Do we have a five way quarterback controversy brewing next year?

Hey how about that JG win/Loss record...How about posting that?...How about you do that right now...We'll wait...I see you came out of your hole to run that mouth of yours again..I was hoping we were done with your silliness after JG got benched and would still be if Maurer hadn't gotten hurt....The transfer portal awaits!
One of the worst parts of this is that we say disrespectful things toward JG because of k-town and Pulaski (wink, wink). They deserve it... he doesn't. But he kind of gets caught in the middle.

For those who think Harrison Bailey is the next coming of Heath Shuler just keep in mind that Justin Worley was once Gatorade Player of the Year
Bailey and Shuler (and Worley) are totally different kind of QBs. Got a more well thought out comparison?

I don't know where to begin with this.

Worley was National POY but was still a 3 star and lightly recruited. Bailey is a far better prospect. Not sure if he's as tough as Worley Bird , but he's more talented for sure.

Regardless, we have a QB already that's at least his equivalent in talent. And really Bailey won't have pressure to produce.

If he comes here...I think he will push Brian to be even better.

I wasn't referring to their playing styles. Just the fact that people keep telling me that Bailey is gonna be one of the all time Vols greats. Like Shuler was. I mean I hope he does but we won't know until he starts playing here.

These “people” having a private conversation with you? Even the most hyped Bailey posts I’ve read on here haven’t placed that kind of burden on him. You’re right he hasn’t proven anything...no reason to lean bust more than the opposite. He’s a promising talent...always hope we land those.

Hill is a non-factor.

1 of BM or JTS transfers or BM calls it quits if these above the shoulders issues are serious, which is starting to become worrisome for his health!

We have never measured the qbs success by drives. We aren't going to start now.

The numbers don't lie. He did provide an initial spark when he came in. Hasn't been good since. If he can actually make it through a few games or even a game then we can see if he can recapture that first quarter magic.
Do you not take strength of competition into your evaluations headed up with stats? I bet you don’t because that would be devastating to your case.

I'm not trying to goad you here.... but you don't really know what you're talking about. Maurer was injured vs MSU and put in concussion protocol. The best info suggests he was asymptomatic and returned to practice the very next week. He then aggravated the injury vs Bama. If it were clearly a concussion at that point, they put him in the concussion protocol until they're sure he's better. They didn't. They sent him to Vandy for a second opinion. My guess is that he was again asymptomatic. He sat out one game then returned to full participation this week.

That's not the way you react to a confirmed concussion. By now they've likely run every test available to check him out. If he had swelling or bleeding or any other sign of internal head trauma... he wouldn't be cleared to play.

PulaskiVolFan flips out because he loathes Maurer and relishes any bad news concerning him... but this was very possibly some kind of nerve issue in his neck brought on by the flip vs MSU. I watched that play again last night. His neck and back were contorted in a very awkward way but his head wasn't slammed against the turf. When he aggravated the injury vs Bama, his head did not violently slam against the OL's leg.

I'm not saying he wasn't or isn't injured. I'm not saying it isn't a real concern. I'm not a doctor. I'm saying they aren't behaving like he's had a confirmed concussion... and especially not two.

I've seen Bailey's highlights. I saw Heath Shuler play HS ball in person. There's no comparison in arm strength or athleticism. Shuler was All State as you might imagine... as a safety. He was 6'3", 220 and ran a legit 4.5-4.6 40 in HS. IIRC, he either won or placed in the 110 m hurdles in track. I saw him throw a 40 yard frozen rope from one hash to the opposite corner of the end zone one night that was nothing short of amazing.

If Shuler were coming out now... he would fit the spread option style of play to a T.

Reminds me of how everybody just KNEW JJ Peterson was going to come in and dominate at linebacker.
It happens all the time. It has for the last 13 years here. I've done it... but quickly became wise enough through having to eat bitter words not to jump so quick.

I hope Bailey becomes a great QB. I think UT currently has two young QB's with the talent to become great. We don't know that about Bailey. We know he's surrounded by a ton of talent in HS whereas neither Maurer nor Shrout were. I'm sure it would have helped their ranking if they'd thrown to someone like Gilbert.

I think it was reported that Maurer threw for like 800 yds in a single game... that his team lost.

It was 513 yards passing and 195 rushing. They lost 77-67.

We have repeatedly proclaimed that stats dont matter for the qb if the team loses.
We’re talking Hs and we’re also talking about a defense that averaged 45 points a game against them. No qb can overcome such glaring odds. Impressive enough that he was able to win 2 with that defense wouldn’t you say? And guess what k town...... that game started with a pick 6. From that point he went on to pass for 3 tds and rush for 3 more. Go ahead and count him out.

I think JG transfers or gives up football and moves on with life. They will try to redshirt HB if possible. BM and JT battle for starting and relief when the other gets hurt. Seems you needs 2 QBs good enough to start these days. I thought JT threw a nice deep ball. I know it was only Carolina but he looked pretty poised starting his 1st game as a RS FR.

JG will only go pro at this point as a developmental/practice squad prospect. If he does move on from football, he will have good connections for a career.

JJ has been battling a torn labrum issue in his shoulder. A terrible injury for a LB to have to overcome. If Bailey comes in healthy he'll play early.

Oh I know. I was just making the comparison that sometimes we put way too much stock in someone before they’ve set foot on the field. I hope JJ becomes one of our best ever, definitely not a knock on him

Hill isn't a factor. He was almost as inaccurate at Maryland as Maurer has been here.
You're lying again. Against the same opponents, Maurer was 55% to JG's 50% while passing for more than twice as much yardage in MEANINGFUL playing time. But you'll ignore this fact because it doesn't support your false narrative.

Maurer wasn't good in "trash time". JG was 1 for 5 vs UGA in relief of Maurer.

And the one thing you can't get past no matter how you spin... is that UT is 4-16 against FBS with JG as starter. They posted their ONLY 8 loss season with JG as QB. They suffered one of the worst losses in program history vs GSU... with JG as QB.

Pruitt said going into the Bama game that UT would be a 4-2 team with "good" QB play. He's absolutely right... and they wouldn't have been as bad the previous 2 years either.

Reminder: I am NOT anointing Maurer. He may or may not be the answer. But the simple fact that there is a valid debate over which is the most effective QB RIGHT NOW... demonstrates JG as a RS Jr isn't the answer.
