Do we have a five way quarterback controversy brewing next year?

Looks like our QB room could be JG, Bailey and Hill next season according to several of our new Maurer and JT should transfer crowd.

Nope not at all

Will be a freshman or Hill.........or.......I can’t even say it _ _.

JG, JT Shrout, Kasim Hill, Brian Maurer, and Harrison Bailey all battling for the spot next year? Boy, this is going to be fun!

If there is a QB controversy...it means that none of them separated from the pack...and we are in for another year of middling QB play at best.

Sadly a lot of quarterbacks will transfer if they don’t play there freshman year
Quarterbacks don’t have the luxury of other positions. There’s only one guy that plays every play, every week (barring injury) where as any other position there are several in a rotation. If a coach just happens to take a liking to one there may be 3-4 others that never get a chance regardless of potential. Fromm at UGA is a great example. Hard to believe that he “beat out” Justin Fields rather than just a personal preference by Kirby. Long story short.... the most talented isn’t ALWAYS given the chance they deserve.

Ridiculous..

Maybe in peewee (daddy) football, middle school and to some extent high school.

When a coach is getting paid millions to win..he will not intentionally keep the more talented kid on the sidelines because he is buddies with another.

Now, there may be a kid with a stronger arm, more accurate arm or better running ability that doesnt start because he cant/hasnt yet learned how to read a defense. However anyone with a clue knows the guy that better understands the O he is running and the D he is facing will be the better option.

Those without a clue will look at a highlight reel of plays and pretend thats all there is to QBing

I agree. The guy who better understands the offense is normally the best chance to win. That’s where I feel JG has his advantage. However it doesn’t change the meat of my comment. A qb has less opportunity than any other position simply because there’s only one guy that plays that position. That was my overall point.

Ok..i will agree with that..the less opportunity due to that position isnt shared much as compared to some others..although a center doesnt get much opportunity to play once the starter is decided.

I'm not saying he won't be a great QB here however there are a lot of unknowns and I don't think it's fair to put him on a pedestal just yet. IMO he won't produce at UT until 2022.
Based off our QB play this year there is absolutely no reason to think he cant at least compete for the job this year. I feel you on putting him on a pedestal but he is a highly talented pocket passer, and we dnt have a Peyton ahead of him. Our Qb's have been serviceable at best and i believe he is further along in his development as a QB then JG, JT, or Maurer were when they stepped on campus. If he is an early enrollee i like his chances to at least compete for the backup spot. We all know CJP has a short leash on our Qb's

Didn’t think of center but most centers are o lineman as well so it’s easy to assume they get playing time.

I think it’s a done deal. Regardless if he balls out the rest of the way or not. SC was redemption for his UT legacy. Loyal and hard working as he’s been...only way is down. Clean slate is a good thing.
JG had his years to get the job done. Time to give Maurer or Bailey the helm.
