Even if we don't get elite players this class is our coaching good enough to develop 3*s like Missouri is able to do and have success?

Yes their schedule is bad, but they consistently develop their players very well and put them in positions to win.
we have some elite players in this class already. just not gonna get thoes top 15 type players like we maybe htought we would, or like we did last year.

development is an absolute must, but doesn't happen overnight.

we will see plenty of contributions next season from the 20 class and the 19 class. gonna sound really cliche by next off season, but it's gonna be true.........we're gonna be young next year too. maybe younger than we are this year.

We compare to other hires like Mullen... where Florida was coming off of two division titles in the previous three years, which is not reasonable. Maybe if Pruitt was a seasoned coach there would be less learning curve but that is something we didn’t expect. That’s why we can honestly say there were times earlier this season that the team was not prepared or playing well and that still falls on the coaches

Fortunately, they are turning the corner... 5 games behind schedule in my opinion (Mizzou last season - Florida this season)

The comparison isn’t even fair..I just think every coach that has went there has always inherited a talented team..in some of those years we all thought it was even or maybe considered a huge drop off in talent and we were proven wrong time and time again..what helps Florida is the school recruits itself because of the rich talent they produce down there along with them staying relevant in the weak East...do I think “Horseteeth and Mullen” could have taken over here and done a better job here at UT?...certainly not.i just don’t think everyone in the country knew just how bad we have been including “us” as fans.

Yeah, he should be compared to Mullen because the programs and talent - at least by recruiting metrics - were similar when both those guys took control. The situations were different, for sure, but they both took the reigns of programs that won 4 games the year before.

Some other fair comparisons are the other coaches that took over programs the same year. Chad Morris, Scott Frost and Willie Taggart come to mind.

I think it’s safe to say Pruitt is in the bottom third of that group. Doesn’t mean he won’t turn it around.

To be fair UF's 2015 and 2016 East title teams were no better than ours. We beat one handily and 2015 we should have had if not for an absurd amount of breaks and a missed fg at the end. We would have played Bama muuuch closer in Atlanta 2015.

Ya can't say UF was materially ahead of us 15 or 16 or 17.

The Georgia State game is irrelevant now because there is *zero* chance the outcome would be the same today.

There are two kinds of coaches: those who have inexplicable losses to inferior teams, and those who will. I have more faith in guys who have made mistakes and risen from them. The defense that held Hill to dang near nothing has clearly improved, which leads me to the conclusion the coach has learned from his mistake.

If we go 5-7 it is absolutely relevant bc it’s a game that we had no business losing and may end up keeping us from going bowling and we could use those extra dozen practices and game.

If John kelly catches a wide open easy touch down pass, we beat them in the swamp in 2017

That's true and I don't think they are significantly ahead of us right now either. They are just getting far better results than we have, likely because their coach is significantly more experienced and is working at a place he was very familiar with; whereas our coach is brand new to the gig and brand new to his surroundings.

No. Tennessees worst loss in program history is going to be relevant until Pruitt shows he can turn around the program. That's not a game you can just decide to ignore.

Oof don't remind me. Or if JG was allowed to snap under center. Or we ran kelly more near the end zone or stay in front of WRs streaking for a bomb or or or ugh

This is the reason why you should check player threads...

I do check them?..but I come in here first.im not asking about one individual player though..I’m asking how many we are trying to take in this class for the defensive side of the ball?..maybe you need to read👀🤷🏽‍♂️

Lol, find 1 person in here who knows exactly how many of anything were taking. I read your post but only responded to the relevant parts of it.....

More emojis please..

no they can't, but they're splitting htem up between themselves quite nicely. which makes our ability to absolutley hit on guys like BJ Ojulari, HT, Crouch, Mcollough, Keyton, Lawrence, etc....paramount. cause our back up to that guy is all together different from Bama's, UGA's, UF's even..........and that's the difference. know what i mean?

edit, and i say that knowing i just broke the rule i just laid out....we're not supposed to be comparing ourselves to those programs, but i just did it, so it is what it is. recruit the core, who are really good players, we've seen that already...and develop the crap out of everone else. rinse, repeat for 2-3 more cycles and then let's see what we got. by then, if we do it right, we should be in reloading mode.

Yep, we need playmakers, and the more plug-and-play guys we can get, the faster the rebuild. We need quality 2-deep to be competing with the SEC elite. The poor start to this year was very unfortunate. We were in a good position to cherrypick elite talent at critical positions. With half the season ahead, we still could. But we've lost ground and we'll have to get some of these recruits back on campus to get that momentum back.

Still, it's impressive how the class has hung together. We lead for a lot of in-state talent and will have a solid base of loyal kids who will play hard and represent with pride. After the way this season started, that's a tribute to the staying power of the UT brand, the perseverance of our coaches and the strength of the relationships they've built. The support of the fanbase in creating an exciting gameday atmosphere for recruiting can't be underestimated, either.

Basically only hope is that we score a few times this wknd to make it exciting to watch for a brief moment. Chaney picked Bama apart with a freshman and sophomore Fromm last two yrs at least early in the games..maybe he can do it again with another freshman. 🤷‍♂️
