Starting to think a rebuild just takes longer. Frost is struggling at Nebraska and Pruitt is still trying to get his feet under him.
For whatever reason, maybe it’s just not as easy as it was in the past

You've got the scholarship limits. And also the strong effect of the playoff system that virtually guarantees the same 5 teams get first pick every year. It's harder than it's ever been, but I think he's already on the way.

Current forecast in Tuscaloosa Saturday night is 60 with 31% chance of thunderstorms. Supposed to start some light showers late in the afternoon with off-and-on rain/storms through the night.

Different people have different measuring sticks for a rebuild. A rebuild to being competitive with our rivals and in the division hunt shouldn't take 5 years. Winning the SEC could take considerably longer than 5 years. We're not rebuilding in a vacuum. Other schools are reloading while we're rebuilding.

We have underachieved at times and are behind what we hoped, but good player development and a great recruiting class could get us back on track. We'd better be leapfrogging Mizzou, UK and SCAR and competing with UF and UGA before Year 5, though. If we're not, we're either not recruiting or developing players at a high enough level to get us where we need to be.

With that being said..what out of state/big name recruits are we still in good shape with to possibly land

Serious question, how hard would it be for Nike to incorporate black into a uniform? Doesn't seem like that specific "color" would present much of an issue?

We're in good shape with Ox coming off his visit. We're still in it with others, but we'll need to keep winning and finish the season strong. Most of the big names are looking for clear progress. We need an elite WR and RB.

I mean we’ve been rebuilding since Kiffin so for us it is a matter of getting a coach/ recruiter and let them build. If Pruitt had come after the 16 season I bet we’d be much further along. We let butch tank the 17 season and his last class mixed with turnover put us back at square one.

Butch made mistakes that would have taken too long to recover from had he remained. Trust with his own team being the most difficult. Poor staff decisions and S&C failures being equally bad

Bama, UGA, LSU, OSU and Clemson can't get all the top players. We can still fish in elite waters. But it's pretty clear we've adjusted our recruiting strategy and are now looking to build a strong in-state base, including players that didn't have a committable offer a month ago. The UT brand is still strong in and around TN. Most of the in-staters that have committed elsewhere were slow-played, passed over or not recruited hard by UT. We're still not out of it with most of them.

no they can't, but they're splitting htem up between themselves quite nicely. which makes our ability to absolutley hit on guys like BJ Ojulari, HT, Crouch, Mcollough, Keyton, Lawrence, etc....paramount. cause our back up to that guy is all together different from Bama's, UGA's, UF's even..........and that's the difference. know what i mean?

edit, and i say that knowing i just broke the rule i just laid out....we're not supposed to be comparing ourselves to those programs, but i just did it, so it is what it is. recruit the core, who are really good players, we've seen that already...and develop the crap out of everone else. rinse, repeat for 2-3 more cycles and then let's see what we got. by then, if we do it right, we should be in reloading mode.

It is probably harder due to the 25 limit as I’ve posted before.

It’s also possible we’re comparing these guys to Saban which is an impossible standard.

We might look back and say Pruitt’s biggest issue was not running off the “bad apple” players as soon as possible.

We compare to other hires like Mullen... where Florida was coming off of two division titles in the previous three years, which is not reasonable. Maybe if Pruitt was a seasoned coach there would be less learning curve but that is something we didn’t expect. That’s why we can honestly say there were times earlier this season that the team was not prepared or playing well and that still falls on the coaches

Fortunately, they are turning the corner... 5 games behind schedule in my opinion (Mizzou last season - Florida this season)

Even if we don't get elite players this class is our coaching good enough to develop 3*s like Missouri is able to do and have success?

Yes their schedule is bad, but they consistently develop their players very well and put them in positions to win.
