How much would we have to pay you to take him?
I actually like Roberts for the most part, at least outside of those inexplicable game management decisions he sometimes makes. He does well at managing a roster packed with stars who can't all start but would elsewhere, keeping everybody bought in, playing roles, keeping a good clubhouse, keeping them positive and grinding, all of that.
But stuff like last night drives me nuts. I understand the intent of lining up Kershaw to back up Buehler but that's just if Buehler is only able to go like 4 innings or so and then Kershaw can pick up the long relief. Still risky with his postseason history but I get it, tag-team starters. But Kershaw is a regimented process guy, he's not built for situational relief or set up work. Once Buehler went successfully into the 7th, the Kershaw strategy should have been voided. Maeda gets 4 outs and Jansen closes, game over.
There are plenty of times Roberts does game-manage well. We don't notice that much because it's just the nature of it. But those crazy lapses like last night undo everything else he does well. I would like him to stick around and just learn not to do that s*** but I don't know how to accomplish that.
This one, usc, and UK are the ones where I think we'll really see if Pruitt and Co. are figuring things out and improving. What’ll be really interesting to me is this is only the second game where our gameplan going in will expect the game to be close - the other one being BYU.
It felt like from the get go we assumed we could do whatever we wanted vs Georgia State and UTC. On the flip side, there was little chance to compete vs Florida and Georgia.
As a result of this, how does our offense look in a big time/winnable game? We have to have this one. So do we come out winging the ball around or do we tighten up like we did vs BYU?
Pruitt has to get this game and he knows it. Moorhead has to get this game and he knows it. It’s going to be fascinating to see how both coaches react to the pressure.
He always hasLol @David Ubben pushing articles over in the FF.
So....I’m assuming you liked Don also..because he made the same dumb decisions in the playoffs like Dave has.
I was actually pretty pleasantly surprised when he started experimenting in July/August with the bullpen, moving Maeda out there. And it seemed like it was working.I actually like Roberts for the most part, at least outside of those inexplicable game management decisions he sometimes makes. Lol @David Ubben pushing articles over in the FF.
Win this Saturday and get through the Alabama game and the rest of the season should set up nicely. Other than Missouri, I think we'll have a decent shot at everyone remaining on the schedule. These guys need confidence that the work they're putting in is paying off. I think it's a must win.The closer we get, the more this weekend feels like a must win
I don’t want to be in a must win situation vs South Carolina because Muschamp has some voodoo on us.
Knows it’s wet enough over there for his crops to grow.Lol @David Ubben pushing articles over in the FF.
Nah, wasn't a big fan of Don, didn't think he did any of it that well. I'm really conflicted on Roberts though because I feel like those critical bad moves are the only thing I don't like about him. But like I said, those bad moves undo everything else he does well. Last night's lapse undid one of the best seasons they've ever had.
I wish he could just fix that one thing about himself but I don't know if that's even possible.
