I completely agree here. Just said in a post I’m from Memphis and cops get it bad here. But some of them aren’t the friendliest because of it. I think banks messed up but it doesn’t sound like he was verbally assaulting anyone, just being dumb. Regardless that office deserves credit because he had every right to make banks night a lot worse.

Yup he could’ve really ruined banks day and possibly year. If that cop takes banks popping off and gets defensive and the situation escalates then who knows what it could’ve turned out to be. I’m also glad Pruitt wasn’t caught pulling the “hes a football player or im the coach so let him go card” or something like that bc then national simps like wolken would be like vultures. Comparing us to FSU & Baylor.

If you don’t think the head coach being on tape 1) insinuating a cop should ignore a warrant because cops at other schools have acted in a similar fashion and 2) being dismissive of the cop for doing his job once tactic #1 didn’t work is a problem then I don’t know what to say.

It’s not a fireable offense or anything like that. But it makes us look terrible and will only be added on to the list of misery as we continue to get our heads beat in on the field every Saturday.
I think it has more to do with the fact that all this happened at 3-4 am and Pruitt didn't want to deal with this sh** at that moment so was hoping the cop would let him go. I think Pruitt understands the cop has his duty but at that early in the morning I think most everyone would have said the same thing.

The bigger issue to me is how he goes about disciplining Banks for his actions while in custody.

As an aside, cops learn about warrants and let people go all the time. They may be "obligated" to arrest on a warrant, but in practice you often see them give a warning and tell the person to take care of it right away. Not saying that should have happened here (or in any particular case), but it's not true that a cop has to make an arrest any time they learn that someone has a piddly traffic ticket warrant.

It is an obligation in Tennessee. Our resident cop has said that and the cop in the video said it to Pruitt and Banks.

It's clear that someone is targeting UT right now or stupid **** like this wouldn't be getting out.
Just a witch hunt starting I’m sure. Honestly what media isn’t a complete joke these days. Got a coach helping his players through life and local news wants to burn him at the stake for it along with the player.

All of this makes me realize that The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and this fan base not only should fully understand why this past decade has gone so poorly for the program, but they should buckle in for another decade that's going to be exactly the same or worse. We arent capable of being a winning program. The writing is on the wall.

Idc about the banks and Pruitt situation. Banks is obviously out from partying probably at least sobering up. So people say dumb shi* all the time. I’m thankful that the cop handled it all well tbh. Could’ve ran across a cop that has had a bad shift or axe to grind then god knows what happens. It was stupid for the request to ever be made to get this footage. Now that it’s out tho you probably have to suspend him for a game just bc it’s the 2nd incident of threatening to shoot people.

No way I could have the restraint that the cops did. I don't think they even charged him with any new charges. At the end of the video the two cops talk about how they cut him a break. I'm almost certain I heard them say something to the affect of we didn't even charge with with driving while suspended.

As to the media, I tend to place the blame where it should be. The whole snowball got rolling when Banks failed to take care of his problem. That's on him. I do question the timing, I find it interesting it dropped yesterday. I'd like to know when the request was put it, when the video was provided, and how long did it take the media (WBIR?) to put it out there. If they held it to this week intentionally, it definately tells me some agenda was at work here.

Everyone is free to draw their own conclusion about how Pruitt handled that call. I can agree the video, the part with Pruitt's audio, can be spun in deterrent ways. I just try and imagine how I would handle that if my son called at 4:00am under similar circumstances. Number one, my son would be apologetic to me on the phone. He would acknowledge that he screwed up. He would act like this because he knows that my reaction would be disappointment from his actions not the cops. He knows that he was in for a stern lecture. But he knows I love him and I would have his back if there was an injustice. He also knows that I would be at the jail before the cop car arrived with him in the back seat to bond him out. He also would know that not only did he have to deal with the courts he would have consequences from me along side.

I get it, the kid comes from a rough background. Do I think he should be kicked off the team or even suspended, not even close. The question going forward that I think everyone would, or should agree with, is how do use this as a teaching point both to Banks and members of the team, who are watching? I think all punishment shoud be handled internally. There is no reason for the media or the public to know what goes on from a discipline standpoint. You set an example for the whole team by significant punishment. Maybe a curfew for a few weeks, sort of like being on parole to you coaches, he needs to run a lot. He needs to do menial task like janitorial stuff. He needs to learn that actions have consequences. I would have him ride along with some cops on a Saturday night to see what fools some people make of themselves.

I hope he learns from this and he never gets in trouble again. If he truly didn't have many positive influences in his life before coming to UT, I sure hope he has them now.

Officer did a fantastic job. Doesn’t matter if we all think it’s a dumb arrest. Banks has some polishing to do but unfortunately understand where he comes from. That was friendly compared to what we see in Memphis. Pruitt clearly cares about his guys and I don’t see why our fans are outraged at the fact he was trying to look out for banks.

People are trying to make this a Pruitt issue in this thread. It’s unreal. Anyone who watched the whole video would not think this is a bad look for Pruitt.

His only complaint is that they weren’t notified so it could have been taken care of. He said at least twice that Banks doesn’t have anyone at home to teach him what to do in a situation like this. Pruitt said they were teaching him and that they had talked with an officer about how to handle it and they thought it was taken care of. He was clearly only concerned that they hadn’t been notified so that they could have taken care of the problem. That was what was silly is that nobody had informed them.

Stop letting these trolls tell y’all that Pruitt was mad that the police didn’t just let him off or sweep it under the rug. Anyone who listened to the video and heard the entire conversation, as I did, knows that isn’t the truth. My goodness some of y’all are just being ridiculous on here.

Amen dude, I’m sitting here having my coffee wondering if it’s trolls or if some fans actually just hate Tennessee now. I mean I get it, it’s been a long decade but seeing the effort pruitt puts into helping his kids it’s no wonder banks is so willing to play for him. Just wish banks would work on how to talk to officers with respect.

Used to be, back in Majors day, this stuff happens and a UT coach hands over four tickets on the 50 yard line for the Bama game to the arresting officer 👮 “ Ah, this time we will let him off with a warning.” Problem solved. Smiles all around. Go Big Orange!

The KNS is absolute garbage.

Don’t care if Pruitt denies the media the rest of the tiny bit of access they currently get. Respectable guys like VQ should get their kind in line if they want more admission.

Pruitt and co are doing their best to fix this **** while the media seemingly believes the grave isn’t deep enough.

Just another reason why coaches don’t want to come here. This **** is seriously a ****ing joke at this point.

Setting aside anything contained in the video, The video was irrelevant to anything. There was nothing to “get to the bottom of” with it being tickets and a suspended license. Simply an opportunity to generate revenue at the expense of Banks and the program.

I hope Fulmer cuts them off from media access, but I know he won’t. Have alumni drop advertisement and let’s see how they like it.

I heard Jerry Glanville on the radio discussing this topic one day not long ago.
He said the most successful college football programs have communities that are “all in”.

This means faculty that might give out a grade or two.
It means local cops who sometimes turn the other way or call a coach before an arrest.
Local media that are fans of the program and dont write negative stories.

He said that this requires a “gentlemen’s agreement” led by a Governor, Mayor, etc. that have convinced all of these groups just how important to the health of the local economy that the home team is. The more wins, the more the schools applications rise, hotels and restaurants filled, souvenirs sold, gas sold, everything sold.

Is this kind of thing right? Ethical? Nope. It’s not.
But, as Glanville said, how much do these college towns want to have a hometown winner and how much money do they want to make.

Best thing about Maurer possibly starting, other than not having to watch JG singlehandedly end the Pruitt era, is that Chaney will be forced to run the ball. The o-line is coming together, around UGA game is when Bryce and AT took their game to another level. If Wanya & Darnell can do the same then I like more touches for Ty & Eric on the ground. I'm starting to get excited. A win would be epic, but making it a game for 60 minutes would be monumental as well. When we hung with UGA last year we came out and smacked Auburn the next week. Could do the same to MS State.

OL hasn't been the issue at all this season in pass protection. But the run blocking is something to be desired.

Ummm Chandler had a 100 yarder against BYU and Grey almost did the same. I have no idea why the running game wasn't used very much against Florida but run blocking isn't much of an issue

Did that running outside against a less talented team than we are about to run up against.
