Pruitt is our coach through Vandy 2021 i dont know why yall keep arguing about it.
Unless 1-11 or 2-10 doubt you rebound from that and support from most fans will be gone especially by the first few losses next season. Don’t see the support ever being 100% bought into after that.

Eventually we'll start winning again. I believe that. Could happen under Pruitt, might not. But when we do, no one is going to care who the coach is.

Quote from Ubben interview with Jacquez Jones in The Athletic:

When asked what he's looking for...

"More of a passing team. That’s all I can say. One that throws the ball down the field. That’s really it."

When asked what he thinks the program will look like next year...

"Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt, if they keep him it’ll be great. He’s a great coach. He’s a motivator. He’s putting guys in position to make plays. I just wasn’t recruited by those guys, and I think it’s right for the school and right for the coaching staff. I wish nothing but the best for the university and state of Tennessee. It just wasn’t for me anymore. I had to move on."

Not only will Pruitt not get fired after 1-11 or 2-10, he shouldn't be fired. He also shouldn't be fired after next year. You hire any coach, you should give them 4 years to see what their program truly looks like. You want to attract a head coach that you think can turn this thing around? Firing his predecessor after less than 2 years on the job is not the way to go about it. That would scare off any strong candidates way more than our past decade of losing would.

You want to end this dreadful cycle? Stay the course. That's our best shot right now. This isn't a video game. There is no reset button here.
Keeping butch 5 years got us a coach who can't beat GA St

Nieds isn't going anywhere. just gave him $150k raise, and Pruitt and Fulmer know he can't go anywhere.

the roster has issues. it's good to very good at the oldest spots (15 class) and good to very good at the very youngest spots (19 class). lotta meh in the middle. this really isn't debatable. the 16, 17 classes weren't great. top end was good, but in that 16 class...here's your top 5 highest rated guys for all the star gazers that think we have all this talent that's just being wasted:
Nigel Warrior, JG, Kongbo, Tyler Byrd and Callaway.

next 5: bituli, marquil osbourne, ryan johnson, CFA, alexis johnson.

2 guys out of those 10....?

2017...top 5...Trey Smith, Ty Chandler, Maleik Gray, Eric Crosby, Will Ignont
next 5....Jordan Murphy, Labruzza, Bumphus, Butler, Kivon Bennett

maybe 3 or 4 if you want to count the recent contributions of Bumphus and Bennet........?

i'm leaving the 18 class out for now simply because there's several red shirts involved, and it'll be better judged next season. but i dont' think i'd be going out on a limb in saying that there's some questions in that class too.....

aside from Jennings and Taylor, the lone leftovers from the 15 class, out of these 20 kids, this is the group we should be seeing leading the team, setting the tone and being significant contributors or starters...that are PRODUCTIVE.

there's just not enough of them...and way too many "busts".

i'm not telling you i think the coaches are awesome. i am telling you that the roster is #1 on the list of things that needs fixed before we do anything--specifically DL/Pass rush and QB. and firing pruitt now doesn't help with that....if nothing else, i think he and this staff have at least shown they can evaluate and recruit. so let them continue to do that.

if this thing continues to go south, well, there's only way it ends anyway. in the meantime, we should be doing whatever we need to to rebuild the roster....and i'm sorry, all the coach and player bashing in the world just doesn't do a thing to help in this regard.

so if for no other reason than that, we need any and all reasons to believe in the future.....it's gonna be the 21 season before we're able to a) judge progress from now to then and b)see what the direction really is.....this is assuming Pruitt isn't fired. i don't see us signing an instant impact, top 5 type class this year, so you take the foundation of this 19 class and foundation of the 20 class, and you have develop the rest....and that just won't happen overnight.

if he is fired, then it's 22 or 23 before we get answers to those questions, depending on what year he's fired....the new guy will have the same problems, with what would probably be a patchwork 20 class, and he'll likely have a frankenstein roster of CBJ, CJP and the new guy's kids on it.....

either way, i think i'm more convinced now than i was before, that this is a longer rebuild than many thought....there is no "just get a good coach and we'll be instantly better" fix. that's just dumb. it's at least as big a gamble as keeping CJP for any extended period of time....we haven't gotten our first choice when the situation was better than it is now, so i don't know why there's still a notion we could go do it this time around, when the situation is what it is currently...(roster questions, leadership questions, booster questions etc...)

Pruitt isn't perfect, and he's made too many mistakes. no one can really aruge that. but most of what we're dealing with, and will be dealing with, is situationally driven...and having an understanding of the situation (or at least a willingness to acknowledge that it exists) would go a long way with how most of us react to what's going on right now. you factor in ESD and the 25 cap rule coming in to play at the exact same time we hired this guy, with the need to flip the roster, well, those two rules don't exactly help a program/coach in our current predicament....we're at leat 2 cycles of 25 away from doing that.

no one should be happy with what we're having to deal with........again. and no one should think things SHOULDN'T change. but there are things that can be changed quicker than others....and we're seeing some of that already take place with the portal, and i'm sure we'll see some more at the end of the season as i would expect a couple coaches to change.....

there's a realistic way of looking at this situation and how to approach it....and there's a very trollish way to do it.....you decide which is which....

nb4 tl;dr.... :)

It's pointless to try and figure it out or predict what the team might do. Maybe they'll play UGA close and build some confidence... or maybe they'll suffer the worst loss ever in a too-red Neyland and become even more disheartened. Maybe the young guys will step up and become vocal leaders... or maybe we'll see more shoulder slumps and head hanging. Maybe they'll stay healthy and get mentally tougher... or maybe they'll get so banged up and beaten down, the tank just runs dry. Maybe we'll finally get production from the QB position... or maybe that will turn out to be a big gap in the roster. We could even see walk-ons. Who knows? It's an unpredictable team in a bizarro season that nobody wanted.

OK, just making sure I didn't dream all that. I agree it feels very bizarro.

Hopefully, we don't let those inbred, smushy-faced, squat-stanced, snaggle-toothed, heavy breathing, saggy-jowled, crab-walking, under-bitten, wrinkle-faced, cherry-eyed, broken-skinned, wheezy, drooly genetic malformities take up too much of the stadium.

How do you all feel if, say, we start 1-7 and end up something like 2-10 or 3-9, and Tee is promoted to head coach with the intent to keep the entire staff?

Better or worse than a full coaching search?

Are you suggesting we do what Clemson did with Dabo and promote a very likeable position coach to sell the program and then put a great coaching staff around him.

I hope UT fans at least show enough support to sell or give their tickets to UT fans. UGA is really pushing that Red Out Neyland. They were very effective at ND. We're better than that.
F those barking idiots. I can’t believe they are really trying to push that. I think I hate them more than UF and Bama now.

This is such a stark contrast to the off-season talk about this team winning a minimum of 7 games this year coming from coaches, former players, and others close to the program. I still can't get around that.

Funny how the narrative has flipped from that...to now Pruitt is in an impossible situation with this roster. Especially with the media and Rucker’s article.

I remember a lot of the media guys said the floor of this year was 7-5 bc the schedule was so easy.

There was a time... right about a month ago when 5 wins seemed nearly unthinkable. It remains so, but for completely inverted reasoning

Phenomenal

Is there any evidence Maurer can throw deep? I seem to recall several passes sailing out of bounds. I like the kid's quick decisions, and he looks fleet of foot.

Lol..13 attempts.if I had to guess he’s really been no position to get in any kind of rhythm,oh and by the way he got us points in swamp..👍🏽

The staff is assuring players and recruits that Pruitt has admin support and will be here next year, and Fulmer is reiterating that. Fulmer has contacted recruits personally with his assurance. Recruits are sticking because they believe it. They hear what Fulmer says and what young players like QC say, and they buy-in to the rebuild. This year is abysmal, but the losses are baked-in and recruits are looking forward. Hopefully, that mindset can continue as we hit the wood chipper part of the schedule and negativity soars.
Of course they are. Fulmer wouldn’t fire Pruitt until after early signing period because he knows the only way we can survive is recruiting. Not that he will be fired, but his job would not be the safest if we only win two games. I only pray this team finds itself in the bye week and decides they have nothing to lose and plays all out. We can win 4-6 games if they get it together. And that would be the best thing possible right now.

So In other words..JG sucks! Bench him before the other WR transfer also.

Nothing like the athletic director calling a bunch of 16 year olds proves everything is fine and business as usual.

This rebuild was always going to take a while. Butch Jones and Pruitt have very different philosophies on what the football team should be and look like. That goes beyond the defense scheme change from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

Butch recruited for speed and quickness. The roster has small, agile, quick, d-line. Small, quick, line backers. Shifty, small running backs. Pruitt prefers massive O-linemen & D-lineman. Power smashmouth running backs, and vertical wideouts.

Right now, we simply don't have enough players that fit the scheme on this team. So Pruitt and staff are stuck forcing square pegs into rounds holes.
Yeah, "Butch recruited for speed and quickness" and yet I've had to spend years watching too many of those guys get burnt on both sides of the ball, even when they understand the assignments.

And that's not a disagreement, it's just more frustration. I'm just gonna start ordering that at restaurants, "yeah, do you serve frustration and disappointment, it's all I really know."
