Much worse. If we don’t like Pruitt because he had zero HC experience, why would we go with another guy who has zero experience as an HC and mediocre success as an OC?
Let it go

Understood. Not advocating for it. Just wondered how people feel because the general consensus of those who want to avoid a search has been that there would be no continuity going forward and it would set the program back further.

I don’t know. Thought it was an interesting thought exercise.

Not only will Pruitt not get fired after 1-11 or 2-10, he shouldn't be fired. He also shouldn't be fired after next year. You hire any coach, you should give them 4 years to see what their program truly looks like. You want to attract a head coach that you think can turn this thing around? Firing his predecessor after less than 2 years on the job is not the way to go about it. That would scare off any strong candidates way more than our past decade of losing would.

You want to end this dreadful cycle? Stay the course. That's our best shot right now. This isn't a video game. There is no reset button here.

He's absolutely getting fired at 2-10. Stop it.

Pruitt will 100% not be our coach next year if he goes 1-11. Bet your life on it

This rebuild was always going to take a while. Butch Jones and Pruitt have very different philosophies on what the football team should be and look like. That goes beyond the defense scheme change from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

Butch recruited for speed and quickness. The roster has small, agile, quick, d-line. Small, quick, line backers. Shifty, small running backs. Pruitt prefers massive O-linemen & D-lineman. Power smashmouth running backs, and vertical wideouts.

Right now, we simply don't have enough players that fit the scheme on this team. So Pruitt and staff are stuck forcing square pegs into rounds holes.
Good coaches try and play to their teams strengths so hopefully they are trying to do that until he can get what he needs for his schemes then.

The staff is assuring players and recruits that Pruitt has admin support and will be here next year, and Fulmer is reiterating that. Fulmer has contacted recruits personally with his assurance. Recruits are sticking because they believe it. They hear what Fulmer says and what young players like QC say, and they buy-in to the rebuild. This year is abysmal, but the losses are baked-in and recruits are looking forward. Hopefully, that mindset can continue as we hit the wood chipper part of the schedule and negativity soars.

This is such a stark contrast to the off-season talk about this team winning a minimum of 7 games this year coming from coaches, former players, and others close to the program. I still can't get around that.

Welp, football season just got even worse! Sitting in the ER with my son who got twisted up after busting a 30 yard run last night. Has a broken ankle. Small and clean break, but he’s done for the year.
Sadly for him, this years team is really good and will most likely win county. He’ll have to watch from the sidelines. Will be hard on him.

Thanks, Pruitt

The sad thing about UT football right now is that most of the people on my social media would used to talk smack about the Vols circa 2009-2015 or so don't even bother now. I saw some digs after GSU and BYU but not as many as I expected. And most of the Gators fans I know didn't say anything after Saturday. We're so bad and have been so bad for so long that people don't even think it's worthwhile to make fun of us.

How do you all feel if, say, we start 1-7 and end up something like 2-10 or 3-9, and Tee is promoted to head coach with the intent to keep the entire staff?

Better or worse than a full coaching search?
Why would you promote Tee after all the bitching about Pruitt being a first time HC learning on the job? That's exactly what Tee would be.

Can you stop this **** already? You’ve literally been pounding sand on this for 2 weeks

It's pointless to try and figure it out or predict what the team might do. Maybe they'll play UGA close and build some confidence... or maybe they'll suffer the worst loss ever in a too-red Neyland and become even more disheartened. Maybe the young guys will step up and become vocal leaders... or maybe we'll see more shoulder slumps and head hanging. Maybe they'll stay healthy and get mentally tougher... or maybe they'll get so banged up and beaten down, the tank just runs dry. Maybe we'll finally get production from the QB position... or maybe that will turn out to be a big gap in the roster. We could even see walk-ons. Who knows? It's an unpredictable team in a bizarro season that nobody wanted.

Honestly would prefer Fulmer to step in at that point.
And sabotage the program completely? Fulmer has his place in UT history. He was a great coach in the '90's and he deserves every ounce of respect for that. But that was then and this is now. Fulmer taking over would hurt the program. The publicity would be brutal, and interest in the job would drop even lower. That is not the answer.

Hank, are you secretly Phil Fulmer? Are you on the BOT? Are you a mega-booster? If not, I'm not sure how you can speak in absolutes. That decision will not be made by emotional fans pissed off that we still suck.
